ARG For Sale

Let's say you liked to write stories and maybe you're even half-way decent it at it. You like games and maybe you even like ARGs Razz So you decide, hey, I've got a few good ideas for some stories that would be perfect for an ARG. You get the story done, buy a couple domains, and some other assests before you decide production and production management isn't for you. You don't want this ARG anymore and you'd like to get rid of it, but you've already sunk in some money.

So, realizing that the ARG community is made up of the opposite of millionaires, you can't sell it off for too much. Would anyone here ever be interested in buying an ARG that needs production. We'll say the prices are reasonable for the community. Meaning, if you're going to be making a half way believable ARG, you know you're going to be sinking in some money for hosting, domains, maybe some stock photos, etc.

Keep in mind that something like thos would be at least well organized and planned out. I'm not talking about someone's drunken ramblings on the back of a cocktail napkin. I'm talking about a written up story, broken up unto into chapters/acts/scenes/whatever, at least half way defined main characters, etc.

That is why you need a dedicated team you can work with - you get someone who can handle production management and keep things going when everyone else looses focus.

I'd suggest you make the rounds of the commercial producers (4orty 2wo, Mind Candy, Dave Szulborski, etc.). I don't think you will make back the money you sunk into it if you offer it to most of the grass roots producers (there may be a few that can afford to pay you, but the number is very small I think - now watch as they come out of the wood work to prove me wrong!).

Making as ARG is a lot harder than people who have never made one realize. The occasional sucking sound you hear around here is another new PM discovering just how much time one can take out of your life. Not just all your free time, but also some of your work time as well, if you let it.

Well, that's why you always have to split up the team into different workgroups. There's a reason why professional producers have different people for Design and Production.

Designers/Writers/Creative Directors have a tendency to be quite bored/not interested/worthless when it comes to production. I'm not saying all of them are - I love both, for example, but there's a tendency.

Producers, on the other hand, have a tendency of only seeing things from a practical, down-to-earth point of view. This means that they rarely have the grand visions of dreams, ideas or concepts.

I see it as follows;

"Don't start with reality and work from there, start with your dreams and find a way to make them reality"

My two cents, which of course are totally irrelevant to the subject of the thread.

ARG FOR SALE: Best offer over $1

Since no one really got the point of my message, I'm going to just change it.

I've got an ARG that I was developing, even had a team, but we couldn't just make a go of it. I'm sure with a team with more focus and especially time, it could be completed. I think it was a good story, the team liked it, and it's very differentl. Right now, it's all on a wiki which you're more than welcome to have.

What you get:
- about a 99% completed story
- 2 domains
- a bunch of artwork that was developed
- puzzles and puzzle ideas
- some custom written software and customized available software

Use some of it or none of it, I don't care. I'm charging for it not because I want to make any money off of it, but because I'm hoping only seriously interested people will take it. Just to show I don't even want the money, anything over $1 after paypal's stupid fees I will donate to UF. If multiple people want it and they dont care that multiple people are getting it, I'll sell it multiple times and donate any of that to UF.

I used godaddy.com for a registrar, and as far as I know, they dont have a transfer fee. But if there are any for some reason, you'll have to pay them.

Reply here, PM me, or send me an email with my nickname as one word @gmail.com.

Thanks,
RungeKutta
