Possible ARG: marilynmanson.com??

I figured I'd start out at this forum by pointing out what may very well be an ARG-in-Development: www.marilynmanson.com
Take a glance at it, and youll see what I mean. Manson has been behind mini-ARGs since his Mechanical Animals album, but this one seems like it could bloom into full scale. Anyone have any info on this?

(Fair warning: Some may find the site somewhat disturbing)

Hi ShaggE, and welcome to Unfiction. Smile Thanks for the warning; much appreciated.

I only sat there and watched the site for about 2 minutes -- does it ever stop repeating so quickly? I mean, does the Flash movie ever end?

Also, a WHOIS brings up this:

Quote:
Renfield, R M
zv4gu44k7hy@networksolutionsprivateregistration.com
ATTN: MARILYNMANSON.COM
c/o Network Solutions
P.O. Box 447
Herndon, VA 20172-0447
Phone: 570-708-8780

R.M. Renfield. Very clever. Laughing

Anyway, I don't know if it's an ARG rather than just a sort of impression-generating site (although if he's done ARG-like stuff before, it certainly would seem to raise the probability), but it certainly does look mysterious!

This is definitely an ARG. I mean, what else can it be? it's too freaky to be anything else!

It could easily be a TimeWaster, just a way for fans to immerse themselves in the symbolism and textures of the musician's world. I wouldn't expect there to be any characters there to send me any personalize replies, nor for us to be able to affect the "world" there. There are plenty of things on the Internet far more freaky than ARGs.

Marilyn Manson is a rock musician/director/artist/the-man-everybody-blames-for-anything-bad-that-happens-in-the-world Razz
He's sadly underappreciated, though.

he, not her. He used to be a pretty decent performing artist who used music as his base. Frankly, he's on my poop list right now {rocky horror related rumors make me a sad girl}. Generally, his last GREAT album was "antichrist superstar" which was at best a rock opera, at worst a misunderstood fairy-tale. His last decent album was "mechanical animals" and past that he just got pathetic. He had issues with his band mates not wanting to go in "his" direction, so he would boot them and then go into legal battles with a couple of them. It is sad really, I remember getting boot legs of "Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids" from florida... he was one of my favorite writers in highschool. Hell, my boyfriend in highschool was nicknamed spooky kid after them, and late in highschool when i finally got my first real email addy it was Mrssuperstar@hotmailaddythatdoesn'texistanymore.com

I used to try to explain him to people who just didn't get it at all and would claim all kinds of nasty things about him the music and what it meant to be his fan that:::
A} before manson, the blame was on Ozzy & Alice Cooper - Alice whom we now know is a sweetheart of a man and a wonderful golfer {ozzy at the time wasn't yet a moron mumbler but wouldn't that have been a good argument!}.
B} Manson as a performing artist lies. He lies in interviews, he lies on stage, he lies in his book. He lies to put on an act, a mask never meant to be taken off. IT is a giant inside joke, and if you are in on it, if you GET IT then you can see through the bull shit - you may never get the truth but you can see the lies. It makes you special in our own little world because part of the joke is laughing at those who just don't get it.
C} Yeah yeah yeah, and Mikey died from pop-rocks and cola.

As for the website, over the years the website had had many many incarnations. Once it was supposed to be a blog, before there were blogs - and told of escapades with people that were obviously untrue and I am surprised he never got sued. At least once he made the whole site into a hide-and-seek game in the vein of the old hell.com site {not the newer version, but the 90's version}.

For the record, since i stopped being a {loud proud and fanatical} Mansonite in 2000, care to clue me in on his "args" or "mini-args" that weren't just time wasters?

[EDIT]OH, and also, for the person who said they don't know of him... He got blamed for Columbine because the boys were fans, and therefore many of his fans got crap for a long time beyond the normal crap because of it. Personally, I had to threaten my school with a lawyer because I wore dark clothes, black lipstick, a pentagram {and yes i AM still a pagan, it was NEVER a phase} and brought in lyrics from a manson song to my creative writing class for "influential" - I forget what song, but it was one even my teacher said was very poetic and true. Manson himself came out after that and did something fund wise for the Columbine issues - and the issue was mentioned in an eminem video "the way i am" by inviting Manson to appear during the lyrics
Quote:
And it seems like the media immediately
Points a finger at me...
So I point one back at 'em, but not the index or pinkie
Or the ring or the thumb, it's the one you put up
When you don't give a FShocked , when you won't just put up
With the bull SShocked they pull, cause they full of SShocked too
When a dude's gettin bullied and shoots up his school
And they blame it on Marilyn...
and the heroin...
Where were the parents at?
And look where it's at
Middle America, now it's a tragedy
Now it's so sad to see, an upper class ci-ty
Havin this happenin...

Okay really, end of my tyrade. [/EDIT]

First, Goth pagans FTW Razz (i was one in HS as well. of course, as I grew older and finished HS, I dropped a hefty portion of the goth look, still as pagan as ever tho).

But anyhoo, the mini-ARGs I mentioned were the extremely well-hidden website addys in the album booklets. Sometimes they'd lead you through a merry chase of the clues and wordplay that made Manson famous, and other times they'd just be artwork. Maybe "ARG" isn't the right word for it, since there's little to be done outside of the internet, except to actually locate the URLs.

I'll have to disagree on your implication that Holy Wood and GAOG were underwhelming though (not saying your wrong, music is relative to the listener). I found Holy Wood to be the perfect ending to the Triptych's story, the second half of the album is absolutely beautiful. And GOAG, despite being terribly disjointed and aimless, was just a good rock album lol.

BTW, where'd you hear that he's redoing Rocky Horror? I thought his only directorial project coming up was his Lewis Carrol one.

first - yes, ARG was not the right word, he didn't do "Alternate reality games" he did "easter eggs".

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/7499

pure rumor as of right now, however not a rumor manson himself started, and one that has been going on and off for years. Once upon a time, the concept was supposedly scrapped... But it seems it may be "on again" with the remake hell the industry is going through right now {for more remake hell info, see the trailer for "day fo the dead remake" also on B-D}

what is FTW? And was basically raised pagan, not a highskool convert.

For more info, perhaps PMing might be the better way. We disagree on a few many things, and my thread jack is getting out of hand.

Awww... Confused I don't know much about Marilyn Manson, and was learning so much there. Ah well. You could always have moved it to a Various and Sundry thread instead. I still think the guy's music is impressive, though I won't claim to know any of the lyrics (and I may retract that statement, heh).
