[EMAIL/PUZZLE] Mystes - This World - 8/8

Got this email:

Quote:
Having with me therefore this fair book, I did nothing else day nor night, but study upon it, understanding very well all the operations that it showed, but not knowing with what matter I should begin, which made me very heavy and solitary, and caused me to fetch many a sigh. My wife Perrenella, whom I loved as myself, and had lately married was much astonished at this, comforting me, and earnestly demanding, if she could by any means deliver me from this trouble.

I got the same email, exactly the same. Any ideas to what it means? They look like some sort of pairs. Perhaps coordinates or cryptogram?

Just some thoughts:

1. I got the same email and it came from: <simon@mystes.com>
2. There is a SimonSmythe on AIN
3. Smythe = mystes except for the H in Smythe and the extra S in mystes.

Simon Smythe is the Town of Aglaura Council President.
He says to ask him about Aglaura.
He says the best thing about living in Aglaura is:
Quote:
the commitment to youth programming and the community at large

In his Every Picture Tells a Story - he has a picture of Klepsdyra

He voted Yea to the Phase Two Redevelopement Plan.

And what Sarah says here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16344

Quote:
I've been doing some ruminating on the Mystes.com thing and come up with what I
think is a pretty good theory. I've had a contentious relationship with some
of the local townspeople for quite some time, and the digitization debate made
some tensions boil over for many people. I think that some kids might have
overheard their parents talking about me and decided to make that silly site
and put the pictures of my masks on there to implicate me somehow. I bet that
it dies down on there once school starts back up!

Just speculating that all this might be related some how.

More info about the writer of the text:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Flamel

Apparently this guy made the Philosopher's Stone.

*edit* This may be particularly relevant, as it has numbers 1 to 8 on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flamel-figures.png

Solve from chat (by not me):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Go through the excerpt sent in the e-mail and count # letters before/after the letter X appears - so for v1, you take the letter after the first 'v' ('i'), and for 5y, you take the letter that appears five before the 'y' ('l'). Going through this leads us to http://www.mystes.com/illudtempus.html.

In chat, we figured out that:
Having with me therefore this fair book, I did nothing else day nor night, but study upon it, understanding very well all the operations that it showed, but not knowing with what matter I should begin, which made me very heavy and solitary, and caused me to fetch many a sigh. My wife Perrenella, whom I loved as myself, and had lately married was much astonished at this, comforting me, and earnestly demanding, if she could by any means deliver me from this trouble.

Code:
v1 5y w2 b1 1b o3 2m 4f g8 1c a1
>   < >  >   < >   <  < >   < >

The underlined characters are those in the letter/number pairs in the order they are encountered in the text.

The bold letters are found by counting either forward or backward from the underlined letter, depending on whether the number is before or after the letter.

It works out to "illudtemPus"
or
http://www.mystes.com/illudtempus

drizjr found that the source for the audio file is actually:
http://www.mystes.com/tones.wmv

Left click Properties. Tab Contents gives a description:"Tager Rather 1986"
That refers to an incident in 1986, when William Tager attacked Dan Rather and said, "What's the frequency, Kenneth?"
So, if someone can mess with the frequency, we will probably hear a clearer message.
And, if this helps any, it's from the file tab.
Audio codec: Windows Media Audio 9.1

[Solve] This World- mystes email 8/8

In chat enaxor remembered the sounds of video from an old puzzle in UH and CTW1.
Six downloaded the program to convert the sound to picture and got the letters
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
AT MIDNIGHT I SAW THE SUN SHINING WITH A SPLENDID LIGHT

nax pointed out that phrase comes from here.
Plugging in the author of the line, gives..
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
www.mystes.com/apuleius

"At midnight, I saw the sun shining with a splendid light."
Apuleius

The existence of this world is written in cycles. A time of great change is upon us, when questions are answered and destinies made, when doorways open and those who can come use them. It is a time when many things - knowledge, mankind, reality itself - are in peril, for there are truths man is not meant to know and things he is not meant to see.

I am Simon Magus, Mystae. Do you want to know more?

(The last word is linked to simonSPLATmystes.com)

Emailing that, gives an autoresponse:

Someone mind posting where that program can be found? I know I, at the very least, would be interested in seeing it.

I totally recommend to everyone to download a program that can look at the waveform and do this one yourself, because it looks so damn cool. I got the trail version of Cool Edit Pro from here.

Found I couldn't just open the file for some reason, so instead I played it in winamp and recorded in Cool Edit. worked out kinda nice because I saw the letters form as the sound played. I chucked a pic below of the start to show how cool it looks.

If you're running Windows Media player, you can see the letters.
Record the wmv using sound recorder and save the resulting .wav file. then open it up in Media player and select the visualization called "particle".
You'll see the letters scrolling.

Just one more last thing while it's fresh on my mind.

We assumed that

1. Mercury = Knowledge
2. Venus = History

what happened to

3. Mars = Nature
4. Jupiter = Technology

Sorry, I had to ask.
I guess we haven't passed the initiation from nymph to miles and then miles to leo.
