[EMAIL] Iris Aug 1 - Devil Hunt Reflections, Bumper Sticker

Quote:
Carol,

I've spent a good amount of time reflecting upon the Devil Hunt and the
appearance of Wes and I've come to the conclusion that everything
happened just
the was it was meant to. Yes, it would have been nice to have caught a
glimpse
of the Jersey Devil, but to see Wes Keeler - that's even more rewarding! I
only wish I had seen him - I would have liked to speak with him and find out
what it was that he wanted to say to us. I doubt his intention was only to
flash in and out as he did - poor Phyllis was scared to bits when she
saw him! I can only hope that he tries to contact us again in some way.

Iris

My letter to her
Quote:
Hello Iris,

Wow, sounds like the Hunt was very exciting, if a bit washed out! How
bizarre that Phyllis would think she saw Wes.

Didn't Wes have a son? Is it possible that it was Wes' son that Phyllis
saw? I know my son looks just like his father? I don't know. I have a
hard time believeing in ghosts. But then again, I have a hard time with
Jersey Devils too!

I hope business goes well! Thank you for remembering me with a
bumpersticker.

Carol

Got one myself:

James,

Aglaura is such a unique place - it's not a surprise that so many people are
enamored with it! So far the response to the store has been wonderful! I'm
still building up an inventory, but sales have been positive. I don't believe
there has ever been a fire here - there was no record of one when I made the
purchase and I certainly didn't find any fire damage. That's not to say that
the building was in perfect condition (or is now for that matter). There was
some water damage and the place was a real mess inside, but that's all. It is
an old building though, so I expect I will continue to find things
that need to
be repaired and replaced.

You said that your experience with the "shadows that cast shadows" was a
negative one? Can you explain these shadows in more detail? Did they take a
human form? Or did you see them in a place where negative things have
happened? If so, have you ever done any research on Shadow People?

The image you included - the ring with the circles on it - that's the symbol
everyone in town has been talking about. Apparently, Dale Sprague included
that symbol in his comic book, Chasing the Wish, and since then the symbol has
appeared around town as graffiti. It is a strange symbol though,
isn't it? Perhaps I'll meditate on it tonite.

Iris

P.S. By the way, what do you mean exactly by "I'm sure Wes would approve,
especially considering the bumper sticker message"?

Just curious:

from Iris's email to Citizen:

Has no one informed Iris yet what the message on the bumper sticker said. If not then, maybe someone should.

And this is totally from the first CTW but look how Iris's felt about Wes.

http://web.archive.org/web/20031010131829/http://www.edgeofsight.com/diary1.htm

http://web.archive.org/web/20031017200052/http://www.edgeofsight.com/diary4.htm - not sure if this is about Wes but it mentions "shadowtalk."

http://web.archive.org/web/20031017200319/www.edgeofsight.com/ipmail1.htm

This is not related to Iris and Wes but (could be Dale?)
http://web.archive.org/web/20031017200001/www.edgeofsight.com/ipmail2.htm

Looks like Wes had two women vying for his affections, Iris and Sam no wonder they are at odds with each other now. Maybe they even blame each other for what happened.

[edit August 31, 2006] For those who read this in the future, I didn't make copies of the above links and it looks like they are not working now except for last one, so I copied it and posted it here in case it too goes missing. The web archive is working on their site and hopefully the stuff will be back at some point.

Dear Iris Page -

You don't know me but I have been reading your website since I found it, even though people tell me I shouldn't pay attention to stuff like that. Well, I can't read it anymore since I am in here. They don't allow us to go on the internet and we can only send one e-mail a week. I decided to send this one to you. I'm hoping you might be able to help me.

I keep having visions of things I don't understand, things that don't make any sense. Everyone thinks I am crazy but they don't understand that my visions are more real to me than the rest of the world. I feel like I belong in the world I see in them, much more than I do here in this world. It seems like a much better place to be.

Until they put me in here. Ever since then my visions have become dark and frightening. I keep seeing, in every one of them, a large, dark, bare tree. It stands alone on a barren landscape, it's black limbs thrusting skyward defiantly, a beacon of emptiness and decay. And now I see it even when I am not having visions. It is there constantly, growing, taking root, spreading throughout the world. I fear that by the time I am let out of here there will be nothing left. Can you help me?

Since you're quoting material from CTW1, just want to bring up the point that Sam was a guy back in CTW1... Laughing

Hey, I forgot that. But somewhere along the line this Sam took an interest in Wes and from some one else's email I remember her being very sad and watching videos I assume to have been of her and Wes. So some kind of relationship must have existed at sometime. When? I haven't a clue. And in Dale's comics (book 1) Wes is still alive and Sam is a woman and they seemed to me to be very tight. So who knows, my head is still spinning.

I wish we wouldn't rely on CTW1 for so much of our spec. I've said before that I understand it as there is a need for some to fill-in the blanks of the current game, but that I also wish the PM's would make this game more unique and not a remake. It's kind of like reading a good novel and then being let down by the Hollywood version.

Edit: Think, "Shakespeare In Love"

Rogi not sure, but I think this game has been going on a long time. Some of the stuff above dates all the way back to 2000 and others date back to 2004 and my understand of CTW1 was that it started and ended in 2003. Prehaps this game has been going on a lot longer than we think. -- just specs.

Daniel,

I've spent some time reflecting upon the Devil Hunt and why it, as you put it,
"didn't go so well". I've come to the conclusion that everything happened
exactly as it should have. I shouldn't judge the event by its turnout or by
how well my store was promoted. What is important is that I set up an event to
honor Wes and he showed up to pay us a visit. I only wish I had seen him
myself. I would like to know what he has to say to us and why it is that he
appeared. I've been thinking about going out to the spot where we saw him to
try and contact him again, but I'm not sure I should go out there alone. It's
not that I'm afraid of Wes at all, just that the Pine Barrens can be a
dangerous place.

What are your theories about Wes's appearance? Do you think he's trying to
contact Phyllis specifically for some reason? I have to wonder if all of the
commotion cut his visit short?

Iris

If it is Wes ghost that was seen in the Barons, I think maybe he has some knowledge of what happened to JD? Or perhaps a warning about the house and Sarah? I have a lot of theories about why he appeared to them. As for the CTW1 stuff some of it is relevant some of it isn't it is up to the individual to sort that out I think. I was not fortuante enough to participate in CTW1 but I have read up a lot about it and there are a lot of recurring themes but I don't feel that CTW2 is a "repeat" or "hollywood version" at all. It is very different.
