Seems to answer the criticisms...she also mentioned names, which hasn't happened since the first one. Beyond that, this was a filler episode, no progress to the story. That makes me think they have gone back and inserted it in.

There's also discussion that the magazine cover has been cgi'ed into the video. A comparision of the video image and real cover does show some strangness.

There's also the fact that someone in California has filed a claim on the name and image with the US patent office.

(You may have to look down a bit for the specific show.)

Well, there is some thought that she is a Masonist, or at least her father is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Fox's new show "Vanished" seems to deal with the Masonry religions. There could be a possible tie-in later.

Personally I don't think she belongs to a masonic anything, only men are allowed into those lodges. Maybe eastern star or some variation of a few pagan traditions.

I'd piss myself laughing if that were the case.

Ritual???

Perhaps she's invited to play the part of the Priestess in a ceremony like this one:

NOTE: This came directly off of the Congregational Thelemic Church of Montery Bay website.

Regardless of the flavor of religion our lonelgygirl 15 chooses to partake in the thing that has me most intrigued is 'why' did she become popular.

Until her 9th video post on YouTube the Crowley image isn't shown, you can barely make it out in her 8th, but only because you know what it is if you are looking. Prior to that the only other video you can see that space on the wall is her 4th video, but I cannot tell what is in the image on the fourth video. In her 6th video we are first given the hint that her and her parents 'religion' is different.

So until at least her 6th video we have no reason to question this girl and her motives/background.

My question then ultimately is how did she become so watched? Am I so far out of the YouTube loop that I have missed something? It was only a few weeks ago I was blissfully unaware of this person, but now she's even showing up on NPR and being talked about like shes the hottest thing on and how she deserves her own show on the big time tube.

And then the Crowley image, aside from it being pointed out to me I would be none the wiser, I know of the man but I cannot attach an image to him in my head, there again am I so out of some loop?

I guess what I am asking is how many people besides lonelygirl15 and Daniel are behind this thing. It must have taken some major noise making to have this cause such a blip on "our" radar, which would require a lot of people spreading the word. I would be interested to hear how any of you first heard about this and how far along the story was when you got involved.

The number of views her YouTube videos have are good, but then taken in context with actual real world numbers they aren't so hot. Lets say 700,000 for her most watched, I'm not sure any are that high, I saw several 600,000+ but I didn't feel like checking them all. So 700,000, seems like a lot, but in real world numbers that like saying almost everyone in San Francisco saw it, not Oakland, not Berkely, not San Jose, not Marin, just San Francisco, out of the entire world that we as a people live in. Kinda small potatoes in those terms.

So where am I going with this, I dunno, I guess I'm not wondering who lonelygirl15 is as much as who is pimping out the mystique of lonelygirl15 and why the bait was taken, was it an unknown or was it an inside job?

She started out with videos that were cute, funny, and referenced by name some popular video bloggers on YouTube. That got her the attention. Then she started her own vlog and she was also cute and funny, so that got her more attention. People started wondering who she was, where she was, and she was reticent about answering, and that piqued their curiosity. From there it snowballed.

I think there's a chance it could be an inside job, as in a promotion from YouTube. If it is a campaign, the religion stuff is pretty edgy. I'd imagine it's from a company that has no problems associating itself with the occult and the negative connotations.

I first saw her by going through the YouTube top videos... she was in the top twenty and I browse that list every couple of days. That was before any of the word of mouth about it being fake started spreading, so the first few vids did manage to get her popular.

It could be that referencing other Tubers really works, or it just could be that teenage girls prancing around their room are just highly viewed on YouTube.

In any case, I find the latest development very interesting. I've turned this into my own little game, researching Thelemic websites, going through their rituals, and trying to find out which ceremony she's going to from her vague description.

You can see we're at a stage where they might push it towards the climax. The foreshadowing is excellent and it has great potential of turning into something else. As others have pointed out, maybe a hidden cam, maybe a rebelion against the ceremony, cliched virgin sacrifice, or anything which adds more depth and introduces interaction.

I'm just starting to catch up on this, since I've been vacationing.

Quick "This reminds me of..." references:

Rosemary's Baby - but a bit obvious, but you get the idea. It may be more similar to its sequel, Son of Rosemary
Harvest Home - I like this comparison best. I predict the end of the boyfriend as he films.
