[New] The Message On The Cards...

It's took a long time but I've finally managed to work out the message (or at least part of it) which spans across many of the Puzzle Cards (previously referred to as the gray shading in the corners of some cards).

First things first, shading only appears on cards with playing card symbols on (Ace of Spades, 9 of Clubs etc) so this led me to believe that they are linked. So to reveal the message a bit of trial and error was needed on my part. I'll spare you the details, but to reveal the message yourself, you'll need to do the following things...

1/ Sort out all the 'playing card symbol' cards from the deck. Beware, the card catalogue in one instance has the listed the wrong symbol so check well.
2/ Arrange the cards in a grid. Four rows wide going Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades. Downwards, Aces go at the top, then Kings underneath, Queens, Jacks and so on.
3/ The 4 corners of each card will create a letter, three letters to each row (this new row spanning suit rows).

Here's what the message says so far (we'll need to wait till more cards come out to see it in it's entirety). A small amount of spec was invloved on my behalf, either where a card has been so dark the gray shading has been lost or where not all pieces of the letter were availible. A '?' is where a character is completely unknown...

Code:

? S T
O L E
T H E
C U B
E H E
L P M
E ? ?
? ? ?
? ? ?
? ? ?
? ? ?
? ? ?

I see this as...
?[Could be 'I' or one of the code names/letters (eg, V) used by the robbery group) STOLE THE CUBE HELP ME[Could be "Me" or perphaps the first part of "Meet"]

18 Letters past the final E are still to be revealed.

The 'P' of help was probably the most SPECed as card 013 is very dark- the other possibility is a D.

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps!
MarcB Very Happy

Wow! Awesome breakthrough! I would be a little bit dubious that the first letter is "I" or even an initial. The cards are made by Mind Candy and supposedly they know as much as we know as far as who stole it, why, and where it is now located. So in theory, the cards shouldn't be telling us who stole it, unless someone in the know hax0red into Mind Candy's image files and added the message before it went off to the printers.

Although, there may be something else at play here. After all, the blacklight-ink on the invitation card can be sort of explained as to be consistent with the above. If Sente took the Perplexian equivalent of a "photograph" of a random invite and sent to the Mind Candy guys for printing and the photographic process they use in their world picks up extra wavelengths outside of visible light (IR and UV), then really--nobody at the Academy or Mind Candy knew (well, maybe the printing company, when they had to load the machine with special ink, but we'll ignore that Wink ) and we were the first to find out. Sure, it is a round-about scifi explanation for how the message got there. Maybe, somehow, there is a similar explanation for the big quarter-letters? Or maybe I am just trying to read to much into things...

the cards were designed in perplex city and digitally sent to MC i assume -- they just followed instructions
so i think the person who made the message added it to designs in PPX

Who are the puzzle makers on the lettered card?

Great work, MarcB!
Just wondering, do these set of partial letter cards have a common author?

Don't think so, Driz. Red 013 - Sphinx - looks to have been done by Aiko Entrescore, whereas Blue 137 - Sub Rosa - seems to be Anna Heath's work.

Who says the guy who's asking for help isn't Sente? Who's to say it's even a guy?

This seems fishy. I hope that the solution isn't just "buy all the cards" so we can figure out that it says "hey guys, I stole the cube, call me and I'll tell you where it is". I mean, I know that's exaggerating, but there doesn't seem to be a good plausible way to explain that.

Unless Sente took it. Then his 'card campaign' would be to help people on Earth FIND it, while telling Perplexians it was just to find who TOOK it. Maybe he lost it on Earth, and wants it back. Maybe at the end people will have to decide between returning it to the theif or returning it to the citizens of PPC. Helllooo, twist time!

Or maybe I just shouldn't spec when I just got off work. Razz In any case, nice work pieceing that much together! Smile

message on the cards

Maybe the first "letter" will be a question mark.

HELP ME...

"...bring him/her to justice" fits those last question marks. Then again, so does 'flog it on ebay please', 'annoy you with a blog' and 'and i'll help you, yeah", so who knows?
