CT

The back of the red and orange cards say that the cards will tell us who stole the cube - this Combed Thunderclap person - and why. I'm sure we are missing more things posted by CT.

I am also convinced that CT was associated in some way with the Academy Earth Studies and the Center for Reality Research. The person's knowledge of Earth is pretty high. I think CT must know how to access the Academy website because of previous use of that website.

And, significantly, not where. This is a little meta, but do you think that the fact that "you don't need to buy cards in order to find the cube", which was oft stated previously was because the location is truly independant of the cards, or because we intended to share and discuss the info from the cards?

Can we lean on Violet to provide us with library access? How about Scarlett?

Has anyone looked into the possibility that the numbers on the Wave 4 cards could be document codes for the library?

I assume you mean the Library services page (linked to from the "Student" section), here: http://perplexcityacademy.com/studlibserv.html

Since the very beginning (and I just double-checked it now, in case it has changed), that form has been hard-coded to always return an error message, regardless of what you type into it.

Received an email back from Violet (for the one I sent her, see previous page of this thread):

Quote:
Hi, that book you describe sounds very interesting, but no, I'm not aware of any sort of Perplexian legend along those lines. I mean, aside from the same sort of drivel from philosophers about putting a million tretretretres at a million keyboards for a million years. I think you get that kind of nonsense on Earth, too.

Which is nice, but she seems to have completely glanced over me asking if we could get access to the Library search function (and, well, all my other questions, but hey at least she replied this time! Woop!), so it looks like we have to either ask her more nicely or put that idea away in the 'nice try' box and think of something else... which is probably the best option, dans mon opinion.

Can anyone identify the plant the leaves on the libraryofbabel site come from? They seem kind of important since the leaves are both covering the book and the decorative embellishments around the text.

For me it's significant that she is pointing us back to the infinite monkey theorem as expanded by Borges in "The Total Library". Haven't been able to locate that text yet. The wiki page on The Infinite Monkey Theorem is worth reading. It goes into computer strings (and we were told to look at strings recently). I did wonder if there was something in the one byte per character needing 256 characters. However my favourite paragraph, going off at a tangent, was the following, as it restores my faith in chaos over logic

In 2003, scientists at Paignton Zoo and the University of Plymouth, in Devon in England reported that they had left a computer keyboard in the enclosure of six Sulawesi Crested Macaques for a month; not only did the monkeys produce nothing but five pages[6] consisting largely of the letter S, they started by attacking the keyboard with a stone, and continued by urinating and defecating on it.[7]

CT = programmer

We know from Claire Castille that the person who stole the Cube- got there before them - was a masterful programmer. (the old ARG staple of the uber-elite hacker strikes again. Wink

Isn't it possible that CT modified the cards himself without any interaction or assistance from the CRT? And that when the cards were tampered with, that was the first time Sente and Anna became aware of someone else interfering with the data stream?

question

Sorry I am not logged in so I can't modify my post- my question: has anyone notified anyone in the academy of this new finding? It sounded from the leaked emails that they were at least aware of it but not able to find it again. (though of course those emails were released just as hints to us.)

I haven't told anyone about this and strangely, I am leaning toward letting Sente know about it.

Perhaps it is best to wait before we give any characters any new information? I was careful in my email to Caine to limit my discussion to things that I knew he already had knowledge about. I'm not sure how telling anyone about CT benefits him, us or helps move the story forward. But I am sure that eventually we will need to let them know.

Thoughts?

because of this thread, i have a very good idea of where the cube is. in fact, i am almost positive.

its all because of the library of babel page.

the leaves are important.
