Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's a picure with ABC written all across it. The title of the page is "we're communicating!". If you select all, you get "with what?" in ther bottom left corner. The answer is

Okay now I'm starting to get annoyed with this.

The image in http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/crayon.html shows "/COLOR/ME" with the word COLOR in red. So you can add a new subdirectory /red/, like this: http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/red/crayon.html

That page is titled DIVide the CLASS for our next assignment and contains the following:

Quote:

brick
letterbait
haughtymelodic
aroundtheblock
film-noir
gabbed
pan
femmefatale
nosafeword
red/crayon

If you go back and view source on ALL of those pages, you notice that they all contain something like: <div class="r"></div>

Taking the "div class" letter from each page you get the letters regrindher, which can be rearranged to:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

REDHERRING

And *that's* why I'm annoyed.

agreed! i'm pretty upset too. where do we go back to now? geez...

anywho...thought i'd point out...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On the clickme/crayon.html page- the source says: "how may i direct your call?" I tried operator.html but no luv.

also this page...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
clickme/red/crayon.html- the source says: "Property of Anna g "

grrrr.... this is way too "snarky" to use a VM term. Wink

First, I thought the "Anna g" thing had to do with 'anagram'

But anyway, I spoke too soon, although that doesn't make me any less annoyed, because you can go here:

http://www.helpmeveronica.com/clickme/red/redherring.html

Which contains a link to a mp3 file:

I'm guessing this is from this mysterious VE guy. Anyway, it sounds like we've all been played...

Well I guess there is all the stuff about the ongoing mystery of the rapes at Hearst. The main page http://www.helpmeveronica.com/ along with her casenotes plus all the Livejournal pages all have to do with that I guess..

Here you go:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

"Hi Veronica. Congratulations, you've reached the end. Thanks for wasting all your time solving my silly little puzzles. While you've been spending your nights on the computer, I've been spending my nights.. well, you know. And I'm going to continue because you actually think people will help you. No one will help you Veronica, ever. This is my lesson to you. There's no puzzle in my words, by the way. I just wanted you to know that I'm smarter than you. Game over."

Bookplate & StickyNote puzzle

...needs decoding

I decoded the bookplate puzzle from Veronica's casenotes file. http://www.helpmeveronica.com/casenotes/codes/bookplate_message1.php

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
each number stands for a periodic table element.

64 = Gd, 8=O, 15=P, 46=Pd, etc.
writing it all out and then using the minus signs to subtract letters gives this message: "Go to Club Dada"

Similar solution to the Sticky Note puzzle. http://www.helpmeveronica.com/casenotes/codes/sticky_message1.php

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This time instead of using the element numbers, look for the elements weights.
Solution: "Gossip Column"

Not sure what we do with these tho.

understand that aroundtheblock is the answer to the Foward March! page... but how did we get to this? I'm missing the logic here. Could someone fills in the blanks for continuity's sake?

Here's how the Hearst Helpers figured it out:
On the Haughty Melodic page's source code, you get "keep your wits about you and you will be fine / before I march forward, I put my soldier in line"
So you put put 3302006 in line with duowndzkhbnocq, the numbers at the bottom:
33020063302006
duowndzkhbnocq

Each number corresponds to the amount of letters you go backwards in the alphabet. D minus 3 is A, U minus 3 is R, O is O, etc. Eventually, you get AROUNDTHEBLOCK.

And yeah, it turned out the whole thing was a giant red herring, meant to distract Veronica. However, there is someone else giving her puzzles as well. Look at this email from "the Codemaster":

Was looking in to see how everyone was doing with the site and noticed that nobody answered the question of how the answer "aroundtheblock" was taken from the haughtymelodic.html page. Plus, wanted to update with some new information.

duowndzkhbnocq
3/30/2006
and
"keep your wits about you and you will be fine
before I march forward, I put my soldier in line"

was in the source code.

By placing 3/30/2006 twice above the random letters, you get
3 3 0 2 0 0 6 3 3 0 2 0 0 6
d u o w n d z k h b n o c q

You then move backwards for each letter by the number that's above it.
That's how "aroundtheblock" was gotten. Hope that cleared it up.

Edit: Well, I was beat to the top one. Eep. Sorry about the double explanation.

Also! Wanted to tell all that there's a new update to the site and Veronica received an email from someone who called himself/herself "The Codemaster."

Over at hearst_helpers on lj, they figured out some steps so here's the solution.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The code was converted from Octal to text giving the message:
Veronica,

Because your computer was hacked, I'm implementing extra security measures. To get the information I have, you'll have to access my site. Each piece of information will have its own password. Each password will be encrypted in a puzzle I give you.

Do not try to find me.

The Codemaster
www.sacredtome.com

From there, www.sacredtome.com seems all black. However, highlighting it, you see Nothing That Raises a Red Flag which is a link to www.sacredtome.com/redflag.php.

Next, you see that you now have to put in a password. The clocks are the answer. And by converting it through the semaphore flag signals, you get the password foldout.

Another new page, and currently where we are stumped. I'll start with what is known. At the bottom of the page, there's names and a code.

The code 50414448414D494C53414441414D4E53414454414D53414448414D52534F414441504D535900 converted yields this:
PADHAMILSADAAMNSADTAMSADHAMRSOADAPMSY.

The names:
DOUGLAS
JOHN
AMY
SAMUEL
RICHARD

all have Adams in common. So, taking the name Adams out of the result gives you Philanthropy.

That's basically all that has been figured from here. Plugging it into the address doesn't change anything, just to let all know.

Okay! That's all I have. Hope that this is okay and if I have done something wrong, please tell me. First time posting here so not sure if I got the standards down.

There's a new puzzle from "The CodeMaster", which is frakking difficult: http://www.sacredtome.com/primetime.php

For the LJ discussion of it, start here: http://community.livejournal.com/hearst_helpers/
