From John Doe 6 latest writings posted on Mythosphere tonight.

He mentioned Prometheus (and the version from the southwestern American Indians).

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So I took a wild guess: http://www.mystes.com/prometheus

Quote:
Prometheus hangs yet upon a barren stone. Free will fails to flower where responsibility does not reign.

"Athough there will always be order in the cosmos, a revelation does not necessarily transpire aftermost, nor does the creation of heaven and earth eternally occupy a seat in the world's genesis."

prometheus

Put the two pages together (knowledge & prometheus) to get:

Quote:
You have done well. Your reward, as promised, is
knowledge, something we value above anything else,
and dedicated our lives to preserving and protecting.

There are cycles to this world, or at least to man's
experience of it. These cycles are immutable and
inescapable; they exist within and influence all aspects
of humanity. And always, they involve a crux, a turning
point for mankind, where knowledge is either gained
or lost. It is our purpose and our responsibility to act in
these times, to preserve the knowledge we have
dedicated our very existence to. But, in the end, it is
man who choses his own fate, his actions that
determine the course of the world for the cycle to
come.

Your generation stand within that cusp, and what you
do shall determine the fate of all for years to come.

There is one who would destroy everything we seek to
preserve, but it is not who you believe it to be. This
one wears a different mask, a disguise, a façade of
truth that hides the dark intent within.

He must not be allowed to succeed. The world he
seeks is not yours

When he comes to you, tell us and we will help you. It
is the only way.

You will know him by the faces he wears. You will know
him by the lies he tells. He is the Devil walking out of
the dark yet speaking of the face of God.

Will you help us?

Question becomes - 1) When were we suppose to find these pages? and 2) Who is wearing the false mask? Dale? Keith? Peter? Bruce? Or is Mystes speaking about Marzant?

i believe the prometheus.html page is the solve to the steptwo.html page.

on prometheus page, the phrase "Prometheus hangs yet upon a barren stone. Free will fails to flower where responsibility does not reign." has exactly the same letters as the letters as derived from shad0's post earlier in this thread...

(actually, i have 1 extra "e" and 1 less "i" in my workup of steptwo.html but i attribute that to a mistake I probably made in my own work - but i'm too lazy to recheck... Razz)

EDIT:- I've rechecked my work and found my mistake. the letter distributions match exactly. Sylvia also confirmed this in chat...

just have to backsolve steptwo.html to verify for sure... Wink

So, to put this in order:
Email from the Mystes with a quote leads us to

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
www.mystes.com/philosophumena

The solve for the first grid is

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
www.mystes.com/steptwo

The solve for the second grid is

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
www.mystes.com/prometheus

which is one half of the quote.

A guess about "What has been promised" led us to

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
www.mystes.com/knowledge

which is the other half of the quote

So what is the next step - there has to be another.

Just want to throw my weird thinking out that i've been going on about in chat for the last couple of days and see if anyone can hit on something from it.

To begin with on August 8, we received the following email.
Quote:
Congratulations, Nymphus!

Your first trial is a task you must perform for us. Knowledge will be your reward.

Simon

Then on August 13, we received the "Your Success" email.
Then on August 18, we received the "Your Failure" email.
Then on August 24, we received the following email:
Quote:
Subject: Time is waning
With the aid of Iamblichus in Heath, you must seek the masculine and feminine from within the passage. Time is waning.

Which helped to solve the "Your Success / Failue" emails:
Quote:
The face of man hides the flaws he wants others to never know. He can't begin his days with them exposed to the world. One mask is not enough; the average man wears many.

With only the world as his witness, he stands alone in this real conviction, truth does indeed matter, yet fails every opportunity which he surely could employ to make others believe as well.

Yet man can be both maker or follower, model or source, healer or destroyer. This universe begins and concludes with man's imprint. He is the reason this world exists, and he is the answer for every question. Perfect by nature, his flaws his fate decide.

Those who have both desire and knowledge shall proceed.

In the differences the message lies,
the answer's hidden before your eyes.

Which led to http://www.mystes.com/anthropocosmic
To follow my thinking notice that ** anthropocosmic ** starts with the letter * A * and has 14 letters in the word.

Anyway that page led to http://www.mystes.com/alchemical
Now notice that ** alchemical ** starts with the letter * A * and has 10 letters int the word.

And that page led to http://www.mystes.com/archetypal
Once again notice that ** archetypal ** begins with an * A * and has 10 letters in the word.
Looks like the beginning of a pattern to me.

At this point, August 25, we had to email Simon and received another autoreply like the first:
Quote:
Congratulations, Nymphus!

Your first trial is a task you must perform for us. Knowledge will be your reward.

Simon

Then on September 3, we received the following email:
Quote:
Subject: What Has Been Promised

"And so the Syzygies emanated from the Eternal One. The three who are six complete the One."

I have named them, these divine pairs - nous and epinoia, phone and onoma, logismos and enthumesis. Find the place where I have transcribed these names to find what has been promised you.
Simon

Enaxor discovered http://www.mystes.com/knowledge from the subject "What Has Been Promised" for it was what was promised from the previous emails. The image was also titled knowledge.jpg, and contained the first half of the knowledge we were to receive, posted above.

While the body of the email led to http://www.mystes.com/philosophumena
with an image titled reward.jpg and a puzzle to be solved, so I have to assume that our reward for solving the puzzle will be the missing parts of knowledge.jpg.

Notice that ** philosophumena ** starts with the letter * P * and has 14 letters in the word.

Solving the puzzle led to http://www.mystes.com/steptwo

And solving this part of the puzzle led to http://www.mystes.com/prometheus which contained the rest of the knowledge promised us.

But notice ** prometheus ** starts with a * P * and has 10 letters.
I point this out because if the pattern holds true we should have at least one more page on mystes that starts with a * P * and has 10 letters in the word.

Code:

# letters     |  starts with A      |  starts with P
---------------------------------------------------
    14        |  anthropocosmic     |  philosophumena
    10        |  alchemical         |  prometheus
    10        |  archetypal         |  p________

That's only if the pattern holds true and if it does the word most likely would have something to do with the Knowledge we received, posted above.
Notice that there are a lot of synonyms such as [different mask, disguise, façade, faces] and a lot of reference to an evil being such as [one who would destroy everything we seek to preserve, the lies he tells, the Devil walking out of the dark.] If my theory is true then these might be hints to finding the next page, if there is one.

edit to fix 9 to 10, i missed counted and Rogi caught it.

Not that this is a slove by any means, but just another one of my weird theories.

Could it be that since Prometheus
Quote:
In mythography, Prometheus may be classed among the trickster gods

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus and many other places
and the reference to ** trickster ** from http://www.mythosphere.org/interviews5.html
that steptwo was a trick and as catherwood pointed out in chat mythosphere gave a work-around.

I mean the letters were all there but it was imposible to anagram given the sequence they were in, therefore the trick.

But then there could have been another way to arrange them, but for now I'm going to assume it was a trick.

Just thinking out loud

Took me forever to get caught up to where you guys are, after the long weekend.
Good job!
I've been trying to get the "m" and "d", which appear only once to reveal their positional logic and am stumped.

Re: again

I think we can safely assume that this is the same code as in steptwo. If so, the letters (in the order given) are:

Code:
DREEEE
ABCHHI
NTTHWE
RUWDKM
SVDFSI
TAEHRR
SUOSLO
OSANNO

Grouping them by the position of the first X:

Code:
3:   WU
4:   DS
5:   AWL
6:   EBSR
7:   ECVTO
8:   EEON
9:   NR
10:  S
11:  S
12:  HHESU
13:  IOO
14:  HD
15:  A
17:  D
18:  RN
19:  FE
21:  KA
22:  H
24:  TTM
26:  RI

Don't know if it means anything. But I tried it on the last one and got some of the same results; lines disappearing when brightness and contrast are adjusted. If nothing else you will be able to see where the letters are on the grid.

It may actually be confusing, so use your own judgement.

It actually appears a little different online than it did in my image software. If you can I would suggest downloading the original and try it yourself.

With regard to the again puzzle:

If you use the following grid:
Code:
ABCDEF
GHIJKL
MNOPQR
STUVWX
YZ0123
456789

and do the same 01 -> A, etc., things that have been done before, you get the following two grids (the first is the initial X, while the second is the dot-X combination):
Code:
DRFGHH     DREEEE
EFGLLM     ABCHHI
RXXNCL     RUWDKM
ZCENUX     NTTHWE
DGQSFZ     SVDFSI
GOSVFI     TAEHRR
JLGKEK     SUOSLO
HLUHIM     OSANNO

Shad0, of course, had already posted the second of these grids.

Now if you take the difference between the two (i.e., E - A = 5 - 1 = 4), you get the following:
Code:
00 00 01 02 03 03
04 04 04 04 04 04
04 04 04 06 06 08
08 08 08 10 10 11
11 11 13 13 13 17
13 14 14 14 14 17
17 17 18 18 19 22
19 19 20 20 21 24

The results? It seems that the grids may be ordered such that they are increasing by difference (and, within pairings with the same difference, ordered alphabetically by the second grid).

There are two exceptions to this, both in the rightmost column: at rows 5 and 7. My best guess is that there are mistakes - I think the box in the fifth row should have a dot-X combination corresponding to 'S' (misplaced dot), while the box in the seventh row should have a single X code corresponding to 'H'. These, of course, are just guesses. Maybe someone else can use this information.
