Just did a whois for acheron.us...they have several other site which appear to pertain to the game...one is www.coyotedispatch.com I think it's a news site based in Fictional (?) Catalina, AZ.

I love this chess motiff. Oh this is gonna be fun Surprised)

I'm looking at the graphic at high zoom and not seeing anything recognizable on the chessboard, certainly not symbols or pieces.

But the picture is reasonably complex & strange, ....

Unfortunately there is nothing in the picture to give us a good reference point to determine the size of the chess board.
It could as easily be a regular sized board on someone's back porch as a large one laid out in a parking lot. *Sigh*

Catalina is a real place, however www.coyotedispatch.com is password protected.

A bit too late, dont you think

I sent my registration form on Aug 28th
Today I've received two meesages:

FISRT MSG:
From: "Admin" <Admin@Acheron.us>
To:
Subject: System Status
Date: Fri, 3 Oct 2003 13:32:56 -0700

You are in the system.

Response is required.

Lack of response means you wish to see the system shutdown and you all may move on to safer lives.

System shutdown means you will never know what really happened.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SECOND:
The second one has "System Status Update" in the subject and a PDF attached with some coded message, suppose some of you have received it as well

The thing is: I had already forgoten about this game, and have no interest in playing after being waiting sooooooooooooo much for a simple registration confirmation message. Im very very upset with it.

Hope things go better for you, guys. Good luck
Shelina

Shelina, that's the way this game works, I'm afraid. The idea is that you don't know where the game actualy starts. It's a whole mystique thing. Smile

IIRC, I didn't get a confirmation of registration at all. I just assumed that my registration had gone through. Personally, I didn't think I would get a confirmation of registration. Such is life in ARG, I guess... you get the interaction when you get it, imho.

Registration was not set up as an auto-reply; probably you got the next broadcast email that went to all the registrants after you registered. Meanwhile, of course, school started and other things started happening. You never know where the interaction is going to come from . . .

Sorry you feel that way. Please remember that usually registration and confirmations are handled by a harried unpaid BTS, who also has both ther own life commitments (family, work, school, etc.) plus may also want to be actively involved as a player (if all they handle is registration data).

You may have gotten the "we have you in the system messagew." Because so may e-mail systems have spam filters up that you may or may not have access to what they catch, it may have been filtered out. My first two messages from Acheron admin were caught in Hotmail's spam filters, until I instructed the service that I wanted these.

Thereis a definite difference in the pace of Acheron from CTW (the only other ARG I have had experience with). CTW had something happening constantly, Acheron, some days we get inundated and other days we may be sitting on our hands for lack of something to do. (Heck at least it means I can afford to go to bed on time for a change)

I will go out on a limb and assume that much depends on how much time the creator can devote daily, how many BTS people are helping and how many overall players there are. I know Dave was overwhelmed by the number of players that ended up registered for CTW began, IIRC, something like 5 times the amount he expected, and more than that by the time it ended. There would be a lot of time devoted just to read the e-mails from players to characters and produce even a few personalized letters and the mass mailings to update everyone.

I imagine its like being the Dean of a college, only you are the only professor on campus qualified to teach.

There is my bit of unsolicited advice for the early afternoon.
