Sorry, nothing personal, but no.

No.

You could ask my family whether they'd rather I did this or got them Christmas presents. And shouldn't there be a ballot to decide who comes? And what about the Antipodeans? And Scandinavians (you could get two Norwegians for the price of an American).

What about an American of (mostly) Scandinavian descent? Very Happy

Also, PM the email addresses of your family, and I will start asking. I am VERY persuasive. Perhaps they will chip in as well. Wink

You know, the whole financial thing has led me to start a sister event in Boston, MA on the same day. Sadly won't be on the scale of the base event, but at least it's something realistic for Americans in the northeast to make.

For the curious, here's the details:
What: CubeFest 2006
When: International Day of the Cube (unofficial, from Mind Candy), Oct. 7, 2006, 12-6 PM
Where: Pandemonium Books & Games, 4 Pleasant Street, Cambridge, MA (for those using public transit, just north of the Central Square stop on the MBTA Red Line)

And though they're not officially listed on the site, they do sell PXC cards and packs will be available to feed the addiction.

This will be partly for newcomers to jump down the rabbit hole and partly for veteran Cube Hunters to finally meet up in the Northeast. Refreshments will be provided, and of course there will be trade opportunities.

I can also confirm that Mind Candy is going to be sending along something for the event (that's all the details I have on that, though).

If a GNER train leaves Edinburgh bound for London Kings X at 6am and another train makes the return journey at 6pm, how many days will it take to make the round trip? The answer will shock and surprise! Razz

Well I finally managed to confirm I'll be free for CubeFest '06 on the 7th, just to visit GNER's site to be greeted with this message!

Quote:
October 7

There is engineering work taking place between Newcastle and Edinburgh. We will be providing a regular train service between Kings Cross and Newcastle/Leeds. Beyond Newcastle, we will be running an hourly train service to/from Edinburgh (via Carlisle). Replacement coach services will serve stations between Newcastle and Edinburgh on the East Coast Main Line. We will not be running train services to/from Glasgow or Motherwell; passengers are advised to use Virgin/First Scotrail services to/from Glasgow. We will be providing a coach service between Edinburgh and Motherwell and will continue to operate trains between Edinburgh and Aberdeen/Inverness.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by these alterations.

This means the southbound journey rises from 4.5 hours to 6.25 (not too bad) and the northbound from 4.5 to a whopping 17 (unless I leave around 5pm). Plus the price is horrendous due to the shortage of trains unless I leave at 4pm!

With BA's flights coming it at around £300, I think I'll have to miss it! Cursing

Anyone feel like a 'northern' meet-up?

Anyone coming from the Pompey / Guildford end of the line will also find there's engineering works that'll add a good hour each way. Admittedly, thats not on the same sort of scale, but still bloody irritating.

How about sharing a twin room in a hotel and staying over till the Sunday? A good number of people are doing it that way. Twins in the centre of London can be remarkably cheap, if you aren't overly choosy...and even if you go for a "standard" Travelodge, Holiday Inn or the like, they are about £70 odd, which between two, isn't too onerous...

I think that I saw some people over on the Perplexorum thread looking for room-mates, maybe you'll get lucky.

Hope that you can make it.

Nice idea about staying the night (more booze-guzzling time) however I need to be back to entertain the following day... Sad

Anyhow, never mind... thanks to the man in orange, Mr Stelios, I'll be there! I'll be in the city from around 9:30am (plane, train, automobile and tube permitting) if anyone else plans to get a few drinks in early Wink

As someone who's clearly well in to Billion21, there's a leafleting thing going on before cubefest in the west end. It's being organised by Duckie. PM her, I'm sure it'll be good fun.
