 PXC Site Log-in problems 9-24-06?

Any one else getting the following error when trying to log in? or other issues logging in today?

(I haven't changed my password and I'd think it was pretty difficult to crack).

Another Mind Candy update perhaps?

Same thing
site down /META about the PXC forums

I got the same message. Note: My name on those forums is rose711 -someone had taken rose before I could register.

I suggest emailing Mind Candy and telling them of the problem. They may be updating something that they didn't have time to tell us about - perhaps the story so far? In any event, emailing them about it is a good step to take as is posting here! I've sent an email myself about it - but because of the timing we may just have to wait a while longer.

On another note about those PXC forums:
I would like a good general forum for story updates there -just as we have here. hen I was on that forum for the first time in ages, due to the hacker attack on unfiction, I was surprised no one had posted the solution to the libraryofbabel directory. We had found it weeks ago.

So, I posted an explanation of the solve of libraryofbabel with references to the wiki explaining that it had been found and suggesting that users read it carefully.

Then when I read the PPC newsletter update from earlier in the week, I noticed that they pointed out that subdirectory along with hints to solving it. Why wasnt this announced earlier? As mentioned, we had found it weeks before.

I think that Mind Candy couldn't have sent a general announcement about the libraryof babel subdirectory before it was posted to their official forums. The unfiction forums and the wiki don't exist for purposes of the game environment. Posting a discovery here doesn't mean that Mind Candy can see it or use it. They can use the blogs and other in-game sites. But newly found directories and pages can't be included in the newsletter or other general announcements until Mind Candy knows about the discovery.

The best way we can ensure that information is known on the official boards is to post it there. Mind Candy then has a source for discovered news that doesn't require them to violate an OOG space - which they would not do.

I suggest we should all make an effort to be sure that significant game updates of any kind that are discovered [i]outside of the blogs [/]be posted on the official forums. The blog updates can be put there too if anyone wants to take that on -but Mind Candy can access those updates as, it goes without saying, the blogs do exist in the game world.

I feel that I as a moderator of unfiction I shouldn't link directly to unfiction where it can be avoided. Spamming another forum with links to your own forum is generally bad etiquette. I plan to update with links directly from the sites and the wiki. So don't wonder why I may not link to unfiction for general updates. I'm not ignoring us. Smile

That doesn't mean that other players can't link to unfiction for solves to things, etc or that other players can't link to unfiction discussions. This is a personal thing. I just feel uncomfortable spamming their forum with links to unfiction that can just as easily be covered by direct links to the new material or the wiki.

The PXC Forums are mainly for cards, and not for story updates. There isn't really a section there that warrents updates, so I'd say that they don't want it. Don't forget, they have their story so far section...

Got this from MC this morning (7 AM EST):

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for reporting this error. It appears our website
malfunctioned wildly this weekend, which meant users couldn't login -
we understand that this must have been very frustrating, and apologise
profusely for the inconvenience! Rest assured, we're now working to
identify the problem and ensure this doesn't happen again.

You should now be able to login as usual. If you tried resetting your
password over the weekend, it's likely that nothing happened - try
logging in with your usual details first. If that doesn't work, try
resetting your password again, and you should be back on track. If you
have any further problems, get back in touch and I'll help you get it
sorted.

Again, sorry that the site was being uncooperative - hopefully you can
catch up on your puzzle-solving this week!

Best regards,

Guy @ Perplex City Customer Services

As far as posting the question here:

Since I'm semi-new to unficiton, but not new to the entire world of forums, where should something like this have gone? I looked at the "updates" forum and decided that that wasn't the place, "general" seemed to fit better. The fact that others where having the same problem put my mind at easy that someone hadn't hacked my password and done something to my account (not that big of a stretch given that unficiton was down all last week). I apologize if this wasn't the place, but where is?

When the PXC site is acting up there is nowhere to find out if others are having the same problem.

Hopefully they can now fix (or acknowledge) the custom avatar upload error I've been pleading/nagging them to fix for the past few weeks! Very Happy

Can anyone else upload a new custom avatar without getting an error?

This was a fine place to post about the PXC forums. I am not sure what gave you the impression that it wasn't. But, you did the right thing.

Thanks for letting us know about the problem.

Yes I know about the story so far section. That doesn't address the issue they have of not being able to write about updates that haven't appeared on any in-game site. Until the libraryofbabel site was posted on that forum, how would Mind Candy have known it existed? Also, the Mind Candy forums have been late coming into this game, so they may not have been as concerned about story updates from out-of-game sites as they were about getting the leaderboard together.

At any rate, I emailed GuyP to ask him what they wanted us to do about it, so we can get an answer directly from Mind Candy.

Posting in PPC forums
Reply from Mind Candy

I got a very prompt reply from GuyP at Mind Candy regarding posting in the PPC forums. He had two points:

1. The PPC forum is OOG too - so they sortof find out about things that are from out of game sites by magic. (I'm not even going to get into the META of how they are supposed to not know things posted on their own forums.) The point is that we don't have to post to the PPC forums to ensure that Mind Candy knows what we know.

that being said:

2. Yes, we should post to the PPC forums about games updates as much as we want. Their forums are usually the first stop for new players and will only help them, and us, stay current. The season two forums will be revamped to include more forums for story interaction.

So, if you have an update to post at PPC forums, post away. Smile
