The topic is bioethically so hot that no serious organization could avoid getting burned at the moment.
Well it could just be an arg. But if it is some real intentional grab for dna for one reason or another, this campiagn could serve to cool off those ethical debates. Besides from the looks of things it seems to be targeted at teens and 20 somethings, who are in general more receptive to this sorta thing than any older generations. Probably because we grew up hearing about genetic modification, cloning, and genetic diseases our entire lives.
But to put some concern to rest, it's only the initial screening phases, I'm assuming this is real, their just checking for dominant genetic disorders.

I've joined, and myspace friend'ed but I'm not sending my hair.
I'll wait to see if anyone else hears back, and then I might send a fake hair or something. Maybe dog hair...wonder how they'd react to that?

Sorry to drag up such an old thread, but I'm really curious if anyone heard anything back from this thing? It looked interesting.

I haven't heard anything. I'll just be on the lookout for a clone of myself. Maybe it will be like The Island and I can use it when I'm near death.
They are continuing to update the news page, and now the home page says Phase II will begin soon. I guess we just have to wait a bit longer.

Yeah I haven't been contacted either, I wish I had. Almost makes me feel bad that I wasn't selected.

I finally have a reply! I posted them a nylon hair plucked from a toy orangutan and here is their response:
Dear Starlajo,
In the last few millennia, the refining pressure of evolutionary selection on our species has been drastically abated by the progress of civilization.
But that is about to change.
Congratulations, your bio-sample has passed our basic genetic screening.
By sending us your hair, you have taken the first step towards becoming a pioneer in the new epoch of proactive human evolution.
The next great epoch in our genetic development will certainly coincide with the age of space colonization, and Space Colony One is excited to be poised at this historic threshold.
We will be glad to have you aboard.
To proceed with your application, you must complete a series of evaluative identification procedures. These procedures are painless, non-invasive, and absolutely free. You will be evaluated for genetic, phenotypic, cognitive, and ideological fitness. You are selected for superiority.
Please login at spacecolonyone.net for further instructions.
