The Lightball?

I saw a news thing on www.coasttocoastam.com with a link to a blog that had a link to this site.. I haven't read it all, but apparently this group of people discovered a chest at some Celtic place with a ball of light inside it. I thought it sounded too ridiculous to be a hoax (there's not even any pictures), so I thought perhaps it was an ARG.

Then again, it could be a hoax, or the ramblings of some delusional attention seeker, etc. Or it could be "real." Yeah. Right.

Anyway, just thought I'd post it here just in case it's something ARG-y. Sort of doubt it, though.

Can you give a link to the blog because I'm having a hard time finding the story you are talking about.

This could be an ARG, well it has to be it is just too crazy. Here is another link that gives the same info. http://thelightball.th.funpic.de/viewtopic.php?t=4

I've been reading some of the posts from people who have joined the forum. Shocked I hope this is an ARG because it sounds kind of cultish if you ask me. I think some of the people on there think it is really real. Shocked Silly I think I am going to look into this one a little more. I registered on the forum and am going to read some of the "teachings". To see what I can find out.

Woof, if it is a game, you're gonna have an interesting time with the people already present on that forum.

I notice the "Secret race of lizard people overlords" believers are already all over this. No thanks.

So I have been reading on the lightball forum on and off all day. I have come to the conclusion that it is not an ARG but a big scam. Don't get me wrong I do believe that some where out there , there may be, could be, intelligent life forms but I don't think we will find evidence of this on earth or in our lifetime. Even if this is an ARG there are too many people that have joined that are "true believers" and I became very exhausted reading what most of them had to say. Too bad this could have made a good story line. Very Happy

In my opinion, that "Lightball" forum is either a college student's masters thesis (an experiment in sociology or psychology) or a setup for generating hype for some other product; in a similar fashion as the Blair Witch Project creators used the Internet to generate hype and an air of mystery about the movie before it was released.

The forum is interesting in that it presents a noble and good goal (uniting humanity) under an outlandish pretext (aliens at war.) It would be enough to set up a group called "Save the World" or something like that, without the outlandish story.

Additionally, they have a "secret forum" set up. It appears that the main forum is used to screen out skeptics so that only the gullible are admitted to the secret forum. This makes me question their motives.

I also wonder if a secret forum actually exists. One person could easily pose as the five or six "insiders" who post on the forum and create new screen names that talk about being admitted to the secret forum.

It will be interesting to see if the site exists a year from now and if so what's going on over there at that time.

Just an "FYI" for anyone interested, that forum about the "lightball" has vanished. It was located at:

I wonder if this was meant to be some kind of ARG and it just became out of control and they had to scrap it.
