IRC Chatroom For Perplex City Players

I know that some people will be well aware of this, but there is a chat room where you are welcome to come and talk about all aspects of Perplex City. With the postcards bringing in new players (and the fact that this is likely to snowball going into the New Year), I thought I'd post a sticky with the relevant details.

You can access the chat room (#syzygy) either by clicking here, or by downloading mIRC and connecting to irc.chat-solutions.org

If you're not familiar with IRC then ask one of your friendly mods (the people with either an !, an @ or a % in front of their names!) for help in channel.

See you there!

I went on the chat for the first time last night, and I have to say that it was great being able to talk to some of you live, in addition to replying to your posts here!

I enjoyed speaking to Fi, Wishi, Hanna, Jon, Nik, Jo, and several others (even if I gave up valuable work time Wink )!

Could anyone direct me to where I could find some info on this chat? I cannot seem to connect to it at all

Darkfall, I don't know where you're trying to access the chat from but if it's from work/school, then you may be being blocked by a firewall stopping you accessing IRC.

If this seems to be the case and neither the Java client nor mIRC will work then you might want to try CGI:IRC (there's one that seems to work here) which allows you to connect through the web.

irssi

And x-chat is for windows too, but is now closed-source nag-ware Evil or Very Mad

I know stat pages tend to lead to stat-whores, but I'd hope people here are above that sort of thing... #syzygy stats and full logs for those who want to catch up - search functionality will be included when I get round to it Smile

Note that I'm the sort of person who does things the easy way - if the pages are abused or they end up using all my server's CPU to generate, I'll be taking them down - it's not like anybody NEEDS them anyway Smile

Wishi thanks for that! I was wondering what to do since Kharkov and MBH went down... The UF java chat is quite restrictive (i.e. you can only be in one room at a time), so this is teh r0x.

[EDIT] Just went to ARGN in my lunch hour, and found that Steve's got his chat back online *with* support for being in multiple rooms at the same time. Thanks Steve Smile

I'm now working on an IRC search thing - currently it's just a per-line regex match, and the colour scheme is weird (I just played around until it was readable; trust me, it's better than plain black-on-white); C&C appreciated Smile

Shish that's great! Are you gonna have some sort of real-time feed so that the logs are constantly up to date? And if this is the case, will you be having the plain text files accessible too?

Looks great so far, though obviously a "word not found" message would be kinda handy. As well as some info on the search syntax, and whether it's case sensitive.

A cool idea though! No doubt it could be useful for future ARGs too.

The logs are from my desktop, copied to my server in an hourly script - If I can have permission to run a logging-only client I could have my server connected directly, so logs would be real time.

> And if this is the case, will you be having the plain text files accessible too?

They're in /irc/<channel>/logs/, as mentioned above; with /irc/<channel>/ being a stats page

> Looks great so far, though obviously a "word not found" message would be kinda handy.

It now gives a hit count

> As well as some info on the search syntax,

perl's man pages now linked, I'll work on a shorter version some time for non-programmers. Note that if you just type in regular words it'll do an exact phrase match, anything more advanced needs some regex knowledge.

> and whether it's case sensitive.

It's not
