Didn't think of that.
Perils of joining in late in the game. There's definitely no cold in Australia in January.

I think the recent events/ discoveries in the lab more or less confirm that Combed Thunderclap is the cube (IMHO). If this is correct can we then assume Combed is trying to lead us to itself?

Pittsburgh has yellow cabs. And plenty of steam rising out of manholes/grates in January. No phone booths that I can think of, though.

But that isn't consistent with what CT has been telling us. Can a cube pick up a phone? Would a passer-by tell a cube to pick up a phone? Would a cube steal itself?

No but it probably could interface with our primative telecoms systems. Admitedly I missed the part about a passer by, but the cube, being self aware could be able to project a hologramatic image of itself (as hinted at by the send light to anywhere chat). I don't understand the steal itself question though.

The line "I stole the cube" seems to imply that "I" is someone other than the cube. The cube may be the one calling CT on the phone though.

And how could the Cube graze its hand and bleed all over the place, hmmm?

We learned yesterday that the cube DOES have intelligence, but that it's limited:
Violet read what Edwina Mountling wrote:
[16:44] Violet: Evidently the Adamek visit wasn't all that fun.
[16:45] Violet: She's written down a bit of dialogue here.
[16:46] Violet: "It has thought?"
[16:48] Violet: "Nothing that you would call thought, Master Adamek. It has intelligence, of a sort, but it can neither talk nor think."
[16:48] Violet: "What exactly is it for, then?"
[16:49] Violet: "It needs a weak intelligence to govern the trillions of material processors inside it, but you have no reason to worry. It has no capacity to disobey than any of your lackeys."
Because of this, I don't think the Cube could be CT. I feel it isn't capable of that kind of thought.

Thus confirming that Marchant wasn't a loon .
So, the cube recognised there was a threat (in some non-specific, vacuous AI way) and acted to save itself by transporting itself to Earth, but then why was CT there?
Or
The cube interacted with CT at some level and required CT's presence in order to transport itself to Earth. This would make me think that CT was someone in frequent contact with the cube (what about Fran Mendling, do you get to take your body with you to Earth? Is it all a bit Quantum Leap...hope not!)
Or
The impetus was from CT and the cube simply reacted as directed (who chose Earth? Remind me, do we know how the Perplexians stumbled across us?).
Something that worries me a little is that Sente looks like he might be accreting material at Viendenbourg to build another cube. Is that for destructive purposes or PR purposes ("oh look, we did get it back! Aren't I lovely!", "Erm, Mr. Kiteway, it's not quite as cuboid as the last one" "Sshhh Patrick! We'll say the Earthlings hit it with a spade as they dug it up.")?

Update? [quote="rose"]

I too wondered if there might be something more we are missing. This doesn't add too much to what we had been told before. Actually, it seems to contradict the update from two weeks ago when we were told CT didn't take the Cube, it took him.
Sorry, been away from PXC for a few weeks. What update are you referring to?

There's been several messages from our friend CT via the library of babel page.
First: Waking.
Second: Begin at the beginning
Third: Dissolution. Dissipating. Everything.

Just putting it out there After having played the dissolution flash a few times I spent a little while knocking around clicking random things. At one point I opened up the general Flash8 options and realised that Flash can work with microphone input. I thought I'd hit something, and when the flash ends on "It spoke my name" and leaves it on screen (I figured prompting a response from the user) I got my mike, made sure it was hooked up proper, and spoke the name "Combed Thunderclap."
I got nothing.
I tried a few more times, different pronounciations, ("Comb-bed, Coombeed, Thoonerclayp") and just for grins a few other names from the cast. No response to anything. I'm curious if anyone else has tried something similar? Only just read this thread today and found about the card with the name and the password, cant test it myself right now though, curious if anyone else could? Or maybe I just dont know how to pronounce the guys name or something.

No, there's nothing more to these...
I decompiled the Flash, and there's no more to these than we've found...

Just for clarification:
The payphone pictured in Dissolution is not a US pay phone. Payphones in the US have the receiver in the center, over the numberpad, like this:
http://www.payphone-project.com/photos/Massachusetts/Abdows.jpg
There are some exceptions, but definitely not in New York. While CT's comment about a cubicle doesn't (to me) rule out New York because the phones do tend to have their own little kiosks, the shape of the pay phone does.
The payphones in Canada, however, seem to have a much more European bent. And wasn't one of the 3P agents in Montreal? ::edit:: Nope, Toronto
