 Code from CT
Found on the Ticks update

There is a code found in the Ticks update. Not sure if this is a puzzle but intuitively I think it is. Here is the code found at the end of the update. Figured I'd stick this in the puzzle section so we could all work on it here

Code:
(7,8)+(6,6)+(7,8)-(6,6)-(-5,5)-(-5,5)+(7,5)+
(6,5)-(6,5)+(7,5)-(6,4)-(6,4)+(8,4)+(8,4)-(8,3)
-(-5,-2)-(8,3)+(6,-4)-(-5,-2)+(6,-4)+(7,-4)-(7,-4)
+(8,-4)+(-4,-6)+(8,-4)-(6,-5)+(-4,-6)-(8,-5)+(6,-
5)-(6,-2)+(8,-5)-(-4,-8)-(-4,-8)+(-2,-7)-(-3,-8)-(-
3,-8)+(6,-7)-(6,-2)-(-2,-7)+(6,-7)+(7,-7)+(7,-7)-

In light of the latest CT numbers, I think we should also note that on a handful of the cards (2 or 3), the upside-down number is printed first (that is, before or above the one the right way up). I'm pretty sure that's the case with 'Baby On Board', although haven't got them in front of me at the mo...

This is assuming that the -/+s after the brackets are in some order...

Here are some of my observations on the ticks numbers:

As mentioned earlier, the +/- signs outside the parenthesis most likey goes after each set of 'coordinates', as this creates a "+" and "-" version of each the 21 unique 'coordinate' sets.

The digits used are only 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 which is set of numbers created by adding up any two of the digits 1,2,3,4.

However, the frequencies of the digits (ignoring sign) are:
2: 6
3: 4
4: 14
5: 14
6: 18
7: 14
8: 14

which is not the distribution expected by adding up random digits from 1-4.

If we refer to the sets as (x,y), it's interesting to note that the x digits appear as only positive or negative, but not both. In other words, the only x numbers are:
-2, -3, -4, -5, 6, 7, 8

That's all I have for now. Hope that sparks some ideas.

One thing still bothers me. I'm assuming that these numbers are directly related to the wave 4 cards number strings, but that leaves the question - where do the n- and -n parts at either end of the strings on the cards fit in?

Hnnnng. This is making me crazy, and I'm not even sure it'll be that useful (yet) if we *do* solve it...

Alright, I've come up with something. If you look at the table of cards on your perplex city account, you can split the table into 4 equal quadrants. If you use the pairs of numbers as graphing coordinates, each one lands on a card containing one of our lovely string of numbers.

Here is a list of card number and coordinate pair:

#29: (7,8 )
#40: (-5,5)
#58: (6,6)
#60: (6,5)
#63: (7,5)
#90: (6,4)
#94: (8,4)
#96: (8,3)
#136: (-5,-2)
#156: (6,-2 )
#188: (6,-4)
#191: (7,-4)
#192: (8,-4)
#203: (-4,-6)
#218: (6,-5)
#222: (8,-5)
#235: (-4,-8 )
#236: (-3,-8 )
#237: (-2,-7)
#250: (6,-7)
#253: (7,-7)

I think the +/- tells us which string to use. + means the one that is right side up; - means the one that is upside down.

So the dream sequence really looks like this:

Code:
#29+, #58+, #29-, #58-, #40-, #40+, #63+, #60-, #60+, #63-, #90-, #90+, #94+, #94-, #96- #136-, #96+, #188-, #136+, #188+, #191-, #191+, #192+, #203+, #192-, #218+, #203-, #222+, #218-, #156+, #222-, #235-, #235+, #237-, #236-, #236+, #250-, #156-, #237+, #250+, #253+, #253-

Edit: Fixed coordinates for #156...thank you isca.

And how do we know which one is + and which - when the numbers run top to bottom and bottom to top? See #94 Prime Rhyme Crime for an example.

Well done ilikepucks. Assuming the 94 + and 94 - to be the other way round (as vertical strings) the first digit of the strings run 1 to 4 throughout, so the first digit could be just for ordering.

Here's the list of number strings in the order implied by the co-ordinates and signs. I agree with Kigi on #94.

#29- 3-232.52.51.5-1

ARRGG!!!! I had the idea that the coordinates refered to the cards a few days ago, but was using the wrong grid:

First row: 1-16
2nd row 17-32
etc...

so it didn't make sense.

Good job ilikepucks and thanks for sharing.

Thanks and your welcome. I figure the odds of me finding the cube are slim...so I'll be content in knowing that even if I don't find the cube myself, I at least maybe did something that helped find the cube. And who knows maybe the winner will send a small cut of the prize my way... Wink

Now it's time to work on the rest of these numbers.

Continuing the work...

Brilliant insight to the number strings.

Now, I think I have an idea on what's next -- the RISK game.
Remember how people before had difficulty re-creating the number strings as a RISK game? I think that was because we never had the correct "order" of number strings before. (We always assumed the order to be in order of the card number labels).

Using CT's (and ilikepuck's) instructions, we now have the correct order of the number strings, and maybe re-creating the Risk game will now make more sense. Can someone who has a Risk board game and who is good at Risk take over? Smile

Spec time -- I think we will finally have the COUNTRY the cube is in, after all this work on the number strings.

P.S. Easy on the trout please.

One thing I've been struggling with (assuming its a risk game we have to recreate). Let's say we did correctly recreate the game. What then? All we would really have is the initial and final countries owned by each player. That doesn't really point to a given country, does it? What would you do with that information?

Ahh.. but an ambiguous answer makes sense. Only when combined with the other 'Five fingers' solutions would we be able narrow it down... Smile

code from CT

Brilliant ilikepucks!

Just one thing - #156 is (6,-2) not (-3,-8 ) as in your list.
