new email from empty threats

Hi Pam,

That new video? Some friend of Uncle Don's had a private party here a
few
months ago and we turned the video into a little "commercial". That's
Mr. Palma
and his "date" (sorry, didn't get her name). Between you and me, that
hair is
more fake than the toupee on Uncle Don's head (shhhh). Sorry, I'm not
going to
be able to get anything out of the SOD computer - that's over at the
Construction Company offices. I'm not that good friends with the boys
for them
to not suspect anything if I'm playing on their computer. I'm still
trying to
keep my distance from them (and maybe stay off the radar of the Grand
Jury).

Yes, my mom was Maria Marzano (same name as Grandmama Maria), now she
is Maria
Shapiro. She met my father here in New Jersey and they sort of eloped,
moving
out west where I grew up. Let's just say there is no love lost between
my
mom's family and my dad's. I just don't mention Aba and Ema (my dad's
folks) or
my father around Uncle Don's family, and they don't ask. Keeps the
peace that
way.

We didn't have much fireworks (you know the kind I mean) around here,
for which
I'm glad. Uncle Don was back from Burlington County and held "court" at
the
restaurant for our holiday dinner, only Frank was here (Sal & Marco
have been
avoiding the old man). The chef did a special dessert tonight. Let me
get you
the recipe:

PANNA COTTA (makes 16)

INGREDIENTS:

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin (about 2 tablespoons)
4 tablespoons cold water
4 cups heavy cream
2 cups half and half
2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla

DIRECTIONS:

In a very small saucepan sprinkle gelatin over water and let stand
about 1
minute to soften. Heat gelatin mixture over low heat until gelatin is
dissolved
and remove pan from heat.

In a large saucepan bring cream, half and half, and sugar just to a
boil over
moderately high heat, stirring. Remove pan from heat and stir in
gelatin
mixture and vanilla. Divide cream mixture among sixteen 1/2-cup
ramekins and
cool to room temperature. Chill ramekins, covered, at least 4 hours or
overnight.

Dip ramekins, 1 at a time, into a bowl of hot water 3 seconds. Run a
thin knife
around edge of each ramekin and invert ramekin onto center of a small
plate.

STRAWBERRY VIN SANTO SAUCE (Makes 4 cups)

2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled, quartered (about 8 cups)
2/3 cup sugar
4 tablespoons Vin Santo, Muscat wine or cream Sherry
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon (packed) grated lemon peel

Puree strawberries in processor. Transfer puree to heavy large
saucepan. Mix in
sugar, Vin Santo, vanilla extract and grated lemon peel. Simmer over
medium-low
heat until sauce is reduced to half, stirring often, about 15-20
minutes. Cool.
(Sauce can be prepared 2 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

(we used fresh blueberries as a garnish after spooning the sauce over
the Cotta)

Enjoy.
Angie

Not sure why I got the recipe...guess she just wanted to share it? BTW I had gotten the impression from Angie her mother was dead....I guess I was wrong. Evidentally her father doesn't allow her mother to associate with her brother (the Don). I'll ask more to be sure.

I'm not certain, and with cooking most recipes have a bit of play in them in terms of what is too much and what is not enough, but the proportions on the gelatin and the sugar look a bit off, most of the recipes I get from google say you will need more like 2/3 the amount of gelatin and about twice the sugar listed. So the recipe Angie gave you would turn out very firm and not very sweet. The recipes also say "simmer" the cream, not boil, otherwise you will scorch the milk products, and I can't see the cook telling Angie to boil it...

I do think this is a code....

I did a search and came up with the same recipe as Angie. (Now if I could only do that with the rest of the game Very Happy ) Almost word for word. Seems Angie's is pretty much just doubled (except for a few). So maybe it's not a code. Unless there is something else on this site. Here is the recipe and the site. (I'm no cook either, but I do find that bringing the milk product to a boil very strange).

PANNA COTTA

Recipe courtesy of Gourmet magazine, August 1997 issue.

INGREDIENTS:

1 envelope unflavored gelatin (about 1 tablespoon)

2 tablespoons cold water

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup half and half

1/3 cup sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

DIRECTIONS:

In a very small saucepan sprinkle gelatin over water and let stand about 1 minute to soften. Heat gelatin mixture over low heat until gelatin is dissolved and remove pan from heat.

In a large saucepan bring cream, half and half, and sugar just to a boil over moderately high heat, stirring. Remove pan from heat and stir in gelatin mixture and vanilla. Divide cream mixture among eight 1/2-cup ramekins and cool to room temperature. Chill ramekins, covered, at least 4 hours or overnight.

Dip ramekins, 1 at a time, into a bowl of hot water 3 seconds. Run a thin knife around edge of each ramekin and invert ramekin onto center of a small plate.

Serves 8.

STRAWBERRY VIN SANTO SAUCE

Recipe courtesy of Bon Appétit magazine, May 2000 issue

1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled, quartered (about 4 cups)

1/3 cup sugar

2 tablespoons Vin Santo,* Muscat wine or cream Sherry

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon (packed) grated lemon peel

Puree 1 pound strawberries in processor. Transfer puree to heavy large saucepan. Mix in sugar, Vin Santo, vanilla extract and grated lemon peel. Simmer over medium-low heat until sauce is reduced to 2 cups, stirring often, about 15 minutes. Cool. (Sauce can be prepared 2 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

*Vin Santo is an Italian dessert wine sold at some liquor stores and some specialty foods stores.

Makes 2 cups.

Crying or Very sad

Ah, I guess I didn't check enough sites. Three of the ones I checked had a bit different proportions on things. Crying or Very sad

So maybe this is one she likes... maybe someone should pass the recipe on to Bruce? Laughing

Pam,

No, my mom is alive and well. She's big on the social and charity
events back
home. This year she is on the board of the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes and
Research
Foundation) and is helping with the annual Walk for the Cure later this
year.
And you are right, this side of the family does not like my father
(accused him
of "stealing" my mother) so I try to keep them separate and we just
don't
discuss it. Uncle Don insists on calling me Angie Marzano (so I had to
open a
bank account with both names just to cash my paycheck).

Interesting that you ask about Bruce. When Uncle Don came home for the
holiday, and Bruce told me he was going to some school reunion, I
didn't expect
to hear from him for a few days. Last night, when I got home from work,
I had a
message on my answering machine. He was calling from an internet cafe
and has
been living on his boat for the past week. Something about docking at
different places (he emailed me the schedule for the week) and then
asked me to
check his condo to see if anyone is there watching (I think he is
worried about
those guys in the dark glasses, those "dead eye guys"). I'm suppose to
meet
him at one of the moorings later this week.

Uncle Don went back to Burlington County tonight. Sal & Marco were
walking on
pins and needles at the 4th of July party on Friday and worked hard at
avoiding
their dad most of the time. Sal keeps asking if I know why Uncle Don
is mad at
them, but I've tried to avoid "knowing" anything (just incase I get
called to
the court house). But now I'm wondering if maybe I should push Sal a
little bit
to find out more.

Angie
