I'm fortunate enough to have a fairly retentive, accurate memory - people are often surprised to find that I can remember a 10-digit security code after hearing it just once, for example. But even I have to admit that when I find I can remember all the different reference codes by which the Academy has ever identified the 23 different models of Quadropole Magnet Current Regulators, I might have become a little obsessed with a project.
I spent yesterday evening in my office at the Academy, trying to coax the systems to tell me anything about the parts Karen Moro had spotted being despatched to the mysterious "Viendenbourg". Someone in the Academy must have ordered them, and although the reasons behind their movements are still unclear to us, it was following one of those parts which got Anna killed. So it seemed logical to follow the chain from the other end: if we couldn't find out where the parts were going to, perhaps we could find out where they'd come from.
From the outset, it was clear this wasn't going to be easy. The Academy's security systems are extremely tight, and they've introduced new security measures in the past week as a response to the blackout. Henrik Tanner also often allows Centrifuge to test out new security systems in beta on the Academy network. Still, I have a few tricks up my sleeve and managed to open a backdoor into the order logs via the security department itself. I've done a bit of work for them, and I remember passwords easily.
Initially, I tried looking for Viendenbourg. It was a faint hope, which was immediately dashed. No records found. So I went through, manually, every part that Karen had noticed. She hadn't known any of the model numbers, and couldn't pinpoint the day on which some of them had passed through her department. Thus, I spent a great deal of time typing in long strings of digits and letters signifying various parts. Most of them were legitimate - with a check-out/check-in mark that I recognised from a genuine department. But eventually I found what I was looking for. A Tajison Plasma Wakefield Accelerator that had arrived and then... vanished. It was marked as missing, with no further notes appended to the file.
I queried the system: who had ordered the part? It came back with the unhelpful message: classified. I thought for a moment and then typed in an authorisation code I happened to have picked up one day while standing in Sente's office waiting to meet Violet for lunch. The network responded immediately with five words: Ordered by: Special Project 487.

I'm still kinda green in Perplex City, but I felt this was important. I'm not sure why, but something tells me this is our next clue.
I noticed that the Cube Retrieval Project is classified as a Special Project at the Academy. Could this be the project's number? Or is it a new special project?
I'm assuming I read this right in that this Special Project group are most likely the ones who ordered the lost pieces that helped build the portal. I'm trying to get into Perplex City, but a lot of it still feels as if it is going over my head. I know I keep searching for bananas, but this one doesn't feel as if it is a banana...I don't know why...Someone want to help me here?

Perfect! Now maybe the mole can be relased! I am not currently taking bets!
2:1 odds on Sente,
4:1 on Garnet!
10:1 on Anna
1000:1 on Tippy
any takers?
Yes Hyperzz, that is the CRT. Now that Kurt has proof that someone ordered the parts from that team. This can lead to anyone in the team, except Kurt of course! My bet would either be Sente or Anna. Please don't slap me for the latter one! She was the position in power at the time of the ordering of the parts, so she has to be mentioned

hmmm 487 is a prime number...justthought I'd put that in cuz it might be of some sort of importance. Prime numbers are a recurring theme in Perplexcity.
For what it's worth, I think Caine is the big mastermind Remember the Receda School of Music, those 'private tutoring' lessons and the connection to the third power? Plus the convenient 'accident' when he was following the correct stolen tech-piece for the 'wormhole generator'? He's a manchurian candidate for 3P!

I've always thought Anna was the uber-villain... at least, I thought that 'til she died. Now maybe I reckon she was one of the bad guys who got killed for developing a conscience, or who fell foul of a different faction of villains (there were two lots chasing the Cube, right?)
[TIAG]Personally, I think the scriptwriters are rubbing their hands with satisfaction at their success in getting most people to wail with grief at Anna's death... because they know they're going to hit us with the Big Twist, namely that Anna is teh eeee vil.[/TIAG]

Two small things (excuse me if I'm having a stupid day):
Firstly, themandotcom - where does it say that the CRT is Project 487? I've looked and couldn't find anything.
Secondly, I thought we didn't know where the parts were being sent to. I've looked back at Kurt's blog, and it just says
Quote:
we tracked three of the tagged parts to Grand Frederik's, where it seems they were safely put onto a train for delivery to... wherever they were supposed to go.
I can't see any reference anywhere that actually says they were definitely going to Viendenbourg.

I'm just going to throw this in here...
This is one of the leaked emails:
Quote:
From: Sente Kiteway
To: Lyssa Ling
Subject: Briefing this afternoon
Date: 29 Sept. 2005 7.38am
Lyssa -
Could you make time this afternoon for a meeting of the special project team? We would appreciate your expertise in some areas that are concerning us. I'm sure I need not remind you that the existence of this meeting is to be kept strictly confidential. If necessary, I can tell Henrik I need you to assist the puzzle scribes. 5pm?
S.
Special Project team?
Strictly confidential?

I guess it dosen't say anything outright that it is the CRT, but its only logical to think that it is in fact them. How many other special projects are there that we know about? If we had no clue what it was, Kurt would have said what it is, or said he will look into it. I think that it showed us the leak is in the CRT, and maybe not Sente as we all suspect. But I'm not sure if Sente could order it through the CRT, or if it would say, Acadamy Head or something.

CRT I didn't think it was the CRT unless the CRT is so so so secret they are stealing stuff from themselves and covering it up. I would think that if secret parts that the CRT had ordered were stolen, then people would be all over it. It didn't seem that anyone was trying to find out what happened to the parts other than Helena and the Anna, Violet, Henrik, Karen, Caine, Scarlett and Kurt (and whoever else they told) crew.
Also, isn't Kurt in the CRT? Could this be his way of leaking some hints to us but tracing them back to Sente?

Back when Scarlett visited Viendenbourg, the people running that facility seemed to think Sente knew what they were doing there and had visited them at least once. Maybe that's project 487? It's probably why Kurt is assuming the parts were heading there at least, even if it's an incorrect assumption?

If 487 is the CRT, then wasn't Anna in charge of the purse strings?

SO if the parts were ordered by CRT she would have had to have known / covered them up / ordered them herself.
Obviously if it's not the CRT then this is irrelevant...

Surely Special Project 487 implies that there have been 486 other secret projects going on at some point.

As far as I understand things, there are several possibilities:
Special Project 487 is the CRT, and the parts were ordered for legitimate CRT use - seems improbable as Kurt et al apparently knew nothing about them (unless someone was fibbing);
Special Project 487 is the CRT, and the parts were ordered by some nefarious person using the CRT's name and then diverting the parts to whatever they were really wanted for - more probable, but I'm not sure about it;
Special Project 487 is the Viendenbourg thing - fairly probable, although I suspect that someone other than Sente is involved in it and has ordered the parts. I'd say Garnet is the most likely, as he "...continues to maintain close ties with defence and the City Council and is the official liaison point between the city administration and the Cube Retrieval Programme."
Special Project 487 is some other project that we either know little about and haven't realised it's a special project, or it's one that we don't know anything about - entirely possible, as the Academy don't seem overly keen on telling us stuff. The CRT is the only Special Project detailed on the Academy website.
Hopefully Kurt will tell us a bit more information, and sooner rather than later.

Or possibly 91 others. (487 is the 92nd prime number).
Or 487 could be code for something, or mean something (Such as: "To finish this special project we gotta kill 487 people" could be Special Project 487.)
