Thoughts

Subject: Thoughts
Remember when I posed the possibility that rather than Dale's wish being reversed, there was granting of an army of wishes?

Well I think that the Wish probably felt this trouble coming and knew that someone would try to use his power for the wrong reasons, and that's why I think he compelled Sarah to make the masks. As a means of protecting the power he possessed by hiding it within them. In doing so though he may have sacrificed his very identity.

After some brainstroming and a lot of reading over emails, both mine and Dale's, I think it's entirely possible that John Doe #6 may indeed be The Wish, his story of how he was found and so on seem a likely fit.

I don't think those wishes fulfilled fell only upon human thought either. I think that the cyber entity known as Turing Priciple was awarded its ambition as well and has now achieved some sort of limited humanity. After much discussion, I also firmly believe that this Turing Principle entity is in control of Marzent. That's the reason why no one has actually seen Don Marzano. He doesn't exist.

Remember the computer equipment bill of sale that Bruce found in Marzent, showing old Cray computer equipment from the Answer Project being sent to Marzent?

I'm not sure what Turing Principle/Marzent is up to, but I believe that their fenced facilities ringing the town might be somehow trying to duplicate the dimensional portal supposedly created here 20 years ago. The machines in the underground caves seem designed to tap into the natural forces of the area. Maybe the massive wish fulfillment is what has linked the The Wish with the Barrens.

I'm afraid that Marzent has found some way to make their plans go forward, even after The Wish's sacrifice. If they've grown desperate enough to start killing people in such a grisly and visible fashion, who knows what they will do next. We must act as soon as possible. I've convinced Dale of that and Bruce is definitely on board, and is using his knowledge of Marzent to help plan it all.

Wes

I'm not so sure about this any more. I know Wes has been feeding us information, [META]and it would be unusual for a major in-game character to be so certain about something and nevertheless be wrong,[/META] but it doesn't quite add up.

At first, I thought TP's control of Sam and Marzent explained the "betrayal" of Wes at the diner. Perhaps it wasn't one of us after all -- perhaps it was Sam herself! That's what started me thinking about the alleged connection between TP and Marzent: if that were the case, why didn't Sam do the same thing when Wes set up a second meeting? (Possible explanation: Marzent and the Mystai are not in cahoots, and the creeps at the diner weren't from Marzent at all. Hey, maybe the Mystai are really after Turing Principle!)

I also initially assumed that whoever murdered Diana was actually looking for the Mask of Man that Meaghan had. But again, if TP is connected to both Sam and Marzent, then Marzent would have known that Sam already had the mask, and would have had no reason to go looking for it at Diana's place. I see three possible explanations:

(1) Marzent doesn't just want the masks; it also wants to eliminate anyone who ever had a mask. They were there for Meaghan; Diana just got in the way. If this were the explanation, though, one wonders how Sarah Wyatt has escaped being murdered.

(2) Marzent murdered Diana for a reason entirely unconnected with the masks. This troubles me as well, though: first, Diana was murdered in exactly the same way as Brad Wheeler, who was presumably killed for poking around the masks; second, if Marzent was in the habit of murdering people it didn't like, Bruce Abbott would presumably have been much higher on the list.

(3) Marzent didn't know that Sam already had the mask. Which suggests that Turing Principle is not, in fact, connected with Marzent.

I've sent my thoughts to Wes, and I'll see what he says.
