 		This message sounds far too meta-ish, but thought I'd say it here anyway other than start a whole "Games strong points vs weak points" thread

[META]Yeah, I always thought making us choose sides was a bit...well...uncomfortable. i've never played any that put players on different "sides", but it doesnt feel right, and i cant really explain why, and anything i did think, kona covered. i dont think they're approaching the sides issue in the right way, either. as someone was saying (i dont know if it was in here or chat) that some people aren't getting indepth, or at the most any replies from "sammeeeee people" ie Nedd and Keely, whereas others are being told not to contact the "spoocheeeee people" ie Patricia

and on the subject of your emails not getting replied...i think i've seen a PM say before that if a character is being told more than they want them to know for the time being, they sometimes just ignore the email. alternatively, johnson may have acknowledged the email, and that is why he seems to be getting closer to outing Patricia.

and another thing - when characters are saying "tell [enter persons name here] i cant reply to them" or "find out what [person] knows about [something]"...how they assume we'll all know eachother, and since UF is OOG, they shouldn't know that we'd know eachother, and since TINAG, there's very little chance we'd know eachother/eachothers email addresses etc, especially as we live all over the world

a good thing i'll say about these PMs though is that they are sharing information out. Whereas some will just post the same information, reworded to suit each email, it seems like we're getting different information for everyone (ie, I got emailed from Keely about Johnson suspecting Betty, yet I didn't get told about her being held at gunpoint by Patricia).

Okay, meta rant over. Sorry if I've jumped ahead or made up insane-sounding opinions Very Happy[/META]

Dante suggested that Mr AJ is trying to sow discontent.

Red doesn't want to support mental patients so she is firmly entrenched on the Spoocheeeee side and didn't like the messages she was getting from Patricia so she contacted Mr AJ directly. Instead of responding to her concerns, the PMs sent a Mr AJ email to Luna - putting her into this predicament. The good thing, is that we are more upset with the PMs right now than with Luna or Red.

Chixor suggested that Mr AJ could have responded to Red that Patricia was a little melodramatic and is a sloppy typer and her fingers sometimes hits the caps lock at the weirdest times (which we might think is a lame excuse but we'd still know that the character is not suppose to be "outed").

So, bottom line. Red is NOT a Sammeeeee.

 		Once this game took on the definite appearance of opposing sides, with players choosing their allies, I went into lurker mode. My active participation with characters basically stopped.

I was disappointed with the initial player reaction towards Redhatty when it was discovered she had passed on "OOG" information to AJ. Although Dante used "OOG" information he passed on to AJ concerning the WR3 meet in San Francisco.

One of the problems seems to be, what constitutes "OOG" information? For example, if all of UF is "OOG", then a characters email address found by one player, and posted on the board, should in reality be considered "OOG" and unusable by other players, but that's not practical for collaborative play. That's why I tend to back away from these types of games.

Most of the games I've played, there may be a clear enemy in the game, but there's little or no interaction between them and the players. That interaction takes place between characters. The character/s that players interact with, may be the enemy, but we're not aware of it until the end. This way we the players aren't forced to choose sides.

I also want you to know that I have read your concerns with Patricia Moore. Do not worry, Red, I have not come this far to allow my heart to make me completely blind. She is being observed. At this point I cannot be certain if she is playing with the Sammeeeees on my behalf or indeed one of them. Time will tell that tale. I want you to know that Mr. Mann is presently being "dealt" with and I do hope you accept my very sincere apology.

Moving on...I will be posting a document concerning the "white roses" later today. You will be notified of the place and time as soon as possible.

I guess we've lost Tall Man (unless he got wind and this and made his escape - I hope he got my warning email yesterday).

IMHO, Using MySpace friends list is actually appropriate in the context of this alternate reality. If you are signed up as a friend of Peeps then certainly Mr Alan Johnson can see that clearly....and vice versa (who has made themselves a friend of Mr AJ). Thank you, PMs, for trying to clear this up.

As far as collaborative game play - Mr AJ did not set his profile to private, so you don't have to be his friend to read his blog. Peeps & Betty did set to private - but those who are friends with them provide regular updates in here. That is one aspect that makes this game hard to play if you are NOT part of UF. But, considering the rabbithole was sent to SpaceBass, I assume the PMs planned for UF to be the player base.

So, to clarify (in *my* mind):Red = Spoocheeeee but not a double agent. She will share her interactions with us. But will she give away any information we need to keep out of Mr AJ's hand???? I think the PMs tried to thwart that by filtering the emails through Patricia. I trust Red's judgement.

Dante & Jetamo have been communicating with Mr AJ but they are really trying to help Sammeeeees. We have tried to give them guidance on what to share and what to withhold from Mr AJ (including that wonderful fake site that Celina did so Mr AJ would not find WR3's site and learn of the 3 dead elders). If the PMs wanted Mr AJ to know, then they would have had him react to Red's earlier emails that included the real site.

Luna? Are you also a double agent or straight Spoocheeeee like Red? And THANK YOU for posting your interactions. This has been a most interesting dialogue and certainly shows that as a community, UFers are a great bunch of folks! Hugs all around the room (see you all when I get home from work tonight).

I would just like to point that it is possible not to take sides. For example, for some reason (and only the PMs know why) I have been able to make friendly contact not only with Alan Johnson, but also Peeps and Nedd as well. Yes, I am probably considered a Alan Johnson lapdog/jackal by most, but Peeps has pointed out that this is necessary in order to learn more about what he is doing. The nature of this game seems to be that we need to get specific information from *both* sides. Yes, I agree that the PMs could be handling it better overall such that everyone could be in the position more or less to be a double agent -- but I suspect that a) this would double the number of emails flying back and forth, which the PMs don't want to deal with and b) many of the players seemed to gravitate more or less toward a central focal character (e.g, Betty). I would hope that the PMs don't put us in a position to rat each other out any more.. that seems to be the cause of the trouble here.

Shifting back to the RedHatty issue, even though it is old news by now, speaking for myself as someone who was "ratted out" by her, I think the bulk of my problem was not so much *that* she did it (although see above for reasons why it may not have been a good thing) but more the fact that it all had been going on for so long without any knowledge on the part of the rest of us who were working together. But that's been resolved now and no lasting harm was done. The OOG issue is trickier -- I agree that in general we have to be willing to share information that we learn on the boards -- otherwise there would be no game! What bothered me was when RH cut and pasted at least part of one of my UF posts directly into an email to AJ. That seemed violate the letter of the notion of UF as OOG, if not the spirit. It is better to summarize "One of the sammeeeees thought that..." IMO.

Finally, if people take a look at my emails, they'll notice that I am very careful not to mention other players by name or to give any specific information on what other people are doing (at least that's what I try to do). I just feel like its not my place to directly influence how other people want to play the game. So I limit what I say to what "Sammeeeees" are learning as a group or what they are doing in general. It may not add as much realism as it would to say "Oh, Heather acted on information from Betty and is now going to try to destroy the ceramic pieces!!!" but it is safer I think.

That's my .02. I'm sorry that your active participation has stopped, enaxor.

I also spoke to Patricia about taking a leave of absence. I know she

benefit everyone involved if Patricia devoted all of her time
to him. Do not worry about any meeting today. Patricia has these
Sammeeeees in her pocket.
