1. So there! Smile

2. Either weekend is good.

3. It'd be fun to do some sort of theatre-y thing, since the Neofuturists have been so much fun for ARG gatherings in Chicago.

As far as speakers, whomever we can get that's there to speak at GDC would be awesome.

1. Post if you are interested and would attend. Posting

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend. Either - but the sooner we have a firm date, the better for scheduling myself with the employeers

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated. Anything.....but something along the lines of a Quest/Treasurehunt/miniARG/puzzle would be tons of fun and great memories. OOoooh, T-shirts! SWAG Museum and perhaps a swag trade show? I'm sure PXC folks would love to do some card swapping.

4. We will def. need some local help. That'll be me when we get back to Las Vegas for sure. This time probably not going to have enough time Embarassed

Yo

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend
Doesn't matter to me as long as we have it figured out with enough time for me to get cheap airfare Wink

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated.
Does it matter? As long as it's done with my fellow ARGers, doesn't matter to me

4. We will def. need some local help.
Can't help you there

I would attend for at least one of the days.

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend
The 2nd-4th is slightly better.

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated.
There are a lot of "The Game"/Shinteki players in the area. May be opportunities, there. They know the area really well and put on some great games.

4. We will def. need some local help.
I'm about 2.5 hours away, but can help with some of the pre-event stuff like making calls and setting up for activities.

Yes. I'll be in deep doo-doo if i don't make the effort for at least one day/night of activities.

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend
March 9-10-11
My reasoning is that the GDC exposes more people to the concept of ARGs, and they just might stay an extra day if they heard we were gathering. (I wouldn't expect people to arrive the weekend before they've heard the buzz.) Also, the last night of last year's GDC coincided with the Video Games Live concert, and some of us might enjoy doing that (again) -- they haven't yet booked their dates, so it's just a hunch for now.

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated.
Definitely the swag museum and/or swap meet.
Excursions could include a tour of the Berkeley Axons from ILB.
Speakers, omg yes, you know how i love me teh meta! Again with the GDC, you might catch someone special in town.

4. We will def. need some local help.
me? See above about the deep doo-doo if i do not participate in some fashion. I may be good at coordinating flight times with people who need rides from the airport.

May I suggest a Residence Inn for 8-10 people? They are cheaper than a hotel suite. I do not know off-hand where one is near The City.

All In on this one! Love SF!

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend
No pref but Cath's reasons are good for having it on 9/10/11.

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated.
Swag Museum, local sites and eats for sure! What would be a real good time is a FestQuest throughout the city (the public transportation ROCKS there) or if you wanted to keep it simple and controllable, on Alcatraz Island.

4. We will def. need some local help.
I can't say I'm local, but more local than most Smile I'm not an expert on the city either, but I'm pretty familiar with all the "places to see" having just been there last year. Boudin's on the Wharf, baby! Any and all help needed I will provide at my best ability.

SF ARGFest

1. I doubt I could avoid you people.
2. I suggest BOTH weekends. What? Yes, I live here, so?
3. I don't know if there's anything resembling the NeoFuturists. A tour of SF Axons would just be a walk along Market Street. I think the musee mechanique would be a great place to check out. I will ask some people what they think.
4. We will def. need some local help. I might be able to help here and there. My work schedule makes it tough to go anywhere to scout locations though.

Just putting this idea on the table for consideration. I did a quick search for a Residence Inn and found http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/SFORI which has a good location near the airport but within reasonable driving distance to "the city". It also has meeting rooms. I just need to call to find out about sleeping 6-8 people per suite. The last time I planned a gathering, we used a Residence Inn in Sacramento, and had 2 bedrooms branching off a common lounge area with a kitchenette. With people in beds and using the fold-out sofa-bed and sleeping bags on the floor, it could have slept up to 10 people (with or without the knowledge of the hotel management).

Do we have a preliminary head count yet of incoming out-of-towners? I'll keep researching other locations and similar facilities.

Interested? Yes. But I can't commit yet - need to do some financial analysis.

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend
Since I'm not committing, either is fine.

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated.
I know nothing about SF (or the rest of the west coast for that matter), so am useless on this one.

4. We will def. need some local help.
Sorry, I'm no good for that.

1. I'm there. ARGfest 2006 was a blast and I'd be an idiot to miss SF!
2. No preference at this point for the weekend.
3. I'll brainstorm suggestions for speakers and topics, but my preference is to have some kind of official ARG discussion in general. While seeing the sights in Chicago was awesome, I think this year should include something of this nature on one or both of the days. Nights should be kept for fun.
4. Not local, but I would very much like to be a Planner in whatever extent I can be from a remote location. If that means contacting hotels, creating contact lists, contacting panelists, whatever, I'm here to help.

Ariock and pita would ring my neck if I did not help out in some way. Smile

2. Indicate your preference if you have one, as to which weekend.
As I'm local, I have no preference.

3. Suggested topics, speakers and also fun stuff will be great appreciated.
Lots of good suggestions so far. I feel a bit embarassed as I'm local and am drawing a blank here, but I'll see what I can come up with.

4. We will def. need some local help.
I would love to help in anyway I can.

Sorry; I must have missed the Condorcet poll to select a location. What were the results?

I'm not exactly local, but my company's HQ is in SF and they were really no help at all in finding affordable lodgings.

For those who live in or around the city, did anyone ever step up to take the place of Entros?
That place was just TOO much fun.

I haven't forgotten you
ARGFest comments

I dont think we had a poll, unless someone had one while I have been away. But if people want a poll, I'm happy with that too.

Sorry, due to a bunch of things happening at once, I haven't had a chance to be around at all ...but I have been thinking about ARGFest.

My idea is that if we do it the weekend before GDC then people have all week to talk about ARGs, but, I don't care. I'm going to email a group of PMs who may be interested in speaking or sponsoring ARGFest events and see their take on which weekend is better.

November is looking better so I should be able to post some more next week.

Also, I'm excited that this will be a group project for us to work on.

TheBruce: if you want to set up some kind of website that has a wiki on it that would be great. I'm thinking we could start with a list of things we need to get done and then people could volunteer to do them - as well as post ideas/plans/comments.

Later guys.

You can very likely count Kim and I in. I won't be going to GDC and it's unlikely I'll be going to the Embedded Systems conference (April 1-5), so we'd probably be extending our stay a bit beyond ARGfest and making a vacation out of it. As for a weekend, I think any of 'em will work. Suggestions for fun things to do would be anything not requiring a rental car.

I think a wiki (with the SpamBlacklist plugin, assuming it's MediaWiki) might be useful sooner or later.
