Yes, after C2BK...not yet decided, no time yet. If folks are coming in on Friday later (too late to play but not too late to meet up with us for dinner, or after dinner drinks), swap phone numbers with those of us in town early and we'll let you know where we are when you arrive.

Perhaps the location of dinner could be decided beforehand so people who will be there for dinner can plan to meet up there if they're not playing c2bk. I think the dinner is a good official starting event for people who are there friday evening for argfest.

I, for one, would like to check out Chinatown, maybe Friday night is a good time to do that? The places I've come up with during my (albeit limited) research are House of Nanking, Sam Wo's, and Brandy Ho's. Any locals wanna chime in on any of these choices, or offer another suggestion? Also, would Chinatown be considered walking distance from the official hotel?

Oh and can I just say that I'm getting totally effing stoked about ARGFest?! Am I alone here? The panel discussions look amazing, and the list of attendees? DUDE. I. CANNOT. WAIT.

If you're thinking House of Nan King, I would much more recommend going to Chef Jia's right next door. Nan King is a shadow of its former self, and the lines out the door are pretty much all visiting folks who are just going on the hype. Jia makes great food (many, myself included, feel it's better than Nan King), is cheaper, and you won't have to worry about waiting in line for a half hour to get a table.

I think that Chinatown is very walkable from the wharf, but I walk almost everywhere cause public transportation here drives me insane, so I may not be trustworthy. I would say it would probably take you 20-30 mins to get into Chinatown. On the plus side you would go through North Beach on your way, so it's actually a nice way to soak up both hoods.

The key if you're walking is to take a chocolate break at XOX Truffles and a refreshing beverage break at La Rocca's or Kennedy's as you amble up Columbus. You know, just to keep your strength up. Though if you're not wanting to walk, there is a bus runs from the wharf down Columbus into North Beach/Chinatown.

Well, but how much of that 20-30 minute walk is uphill? Be honest. Many of us won't be used to the hills and the last time I went to Chinatown my hotel was back up a painfully steep hill. In heels. I may taxi.

Since the wharf is sea level, isn't everything south uphill?

And many of us may be coming from the c2bk area (where is that in relation to Chinatown). However, I plan on wearing comfortable shoes the whole weekend Raspberry

I'm more worried about the ride back - but I've never been afraid to hail a taxi after ARG Drinkering. And I LOVE Chinese food.

the walk to chinatown from the wharf does not include any major hills.. there one gradual hill as you make your way up columbus but it isn't like california or many of the others.. and there is always a bus down columbus (if needed).
i've walked it many times with my mom and she's 76 and believe me, she's not an athlete. Wink

(if c2bk is in north beach -- it is very close)

It is about three-quarters of a mile from the Cruel2BKind game playing area (Fourth and Mission at the center of it) to Brandy Ho's and about a mile from the restaurant to the Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf. There are no major hills.

Local Attendees?

Are there any local people planning on attending the ARGFest who might be willing to have me ship them a small box of goodies, for them to bring along to the event for me?

I'm traveling before and after the ARGFest itself but wanted to bring along both some ARG Swag Museum pieces and some general ARG items people might be interested in - ARGFest NYC DVDs, for example. I'm not sure how I'll get some of that stuff there if I have to try and fit it into luggage for the multi-stop trip I'll be on.

You wouldn't have to worry about taking anything home with you. If the items aren't all be distributed, I'll either ship or pack them along from there.

Please let me know via PM or a post here if anyone can help out in this way. Thanks and I'm looking forward to another great ARGfest event.

Re Chinatown, it might be a little busy on Saturday, in case you're thinking of wandering over in that direction.
The SF Chinese New Year's parade is March 3 starting at 5:30 p.m.: http://www.chineseparade.com/parade/about/about.asp

I have already replied with my mailing address to your inbox. I am still expecting at least one other package from someone else (you know who you are?) and if anyone else has a similar request, please PM me as well. (Handy link to the swag list list here)

While i'm here in this thread, allow me to also volunteer to coordinate airport arrivals and departures. Most of you seem eager to use BART from SFO and that is fine, but you still might like to know if your fellow ARGers are coming in at about the same time, just to see a friendly face at the airport. And for the people flying into Oakland, I may be able to make one or two runs with my car, if the timing is right. Send me a PM to my inbox if you would like me to match up your arrival time with others. I can also give out my cell phone number ONLY for use on travel days.
