I took a quick glance at what I could & found that flying to the UK from my hone location can be as low as $500 per person round trip, but a cruise will cost about $3000 for 2 of us - YIKES!

it's too bad we couldn't book an ARGFest Cruise, but it would be difficult and expensive for our friends across the pond Sad

I do humbly request, that if we are going to do a European ARGFest, that the decision/announcement is made rather quickly (within the next 3-4 months) so that we can all plan ahead Smile I know I'll be there with Greenfairy & if a European trip, we will probably stay for a week & see lots of places - who knows if I'd ever get the chance again!

I'd like to thank everyone for coming to my City for ARGFest and a special thanks to those of you who participated in the Fest Quest. Ariock and I had five days to plan and execute it and the kudos received made the lack of sleep worth it. Thanks to celina63, labfly, catherwood, and Yum-Yum for their contributions, and, of course, the inimitable Gupfee, for being inimitable. Very Happy

I met some very cool people and saw some very cool people again. It went by too fast and I am only sorry for not having enough time to spend with all of you cool people.

Yeah - I still want to keep enjoying the loveliness of this ARGFest before we get too caught up in planning the next one! How great was it! I can't even think of my favorite moments. Thanks again to everyone who helped me out with all the tasks. I'm compiling a complete list to publish, but like the Oscars I don't want to leave anyone out!

And no worries about cost, like I said many times before, keeping the costs as low as possible has always been the fundamental planning goal. (If we were all independently wealthy this would be a snap to plan. Smile ) But the low cost and sort of home-grown organic feeling of ARGFest is essential to what it is.

-----

Two things though as I said I would be happy to plan anything, anytime

1. Datewise - I get to go to China in the Summer of 2008 for the Olympics (thanks to friends at NBC) so that won't work for me, but, mostly I am simply showing off that I get to go and not saying that we shouldn't do an ARGFest then. I just won't be able to do much of it.

2. Cashwise - We need to work out a better way to have the money upfront to save time for deposits for hotels, etc. That cost a couple of months of time and effort this time. (people are talking about some general ideas for ways to deal with this. And yes I sent many email requests to sponsors in the months before ARGFest, Brian Clark came through for us!) Anyone who is doing the planning should have access to a budget at least a few months UPFRONT instead of trying to raise it as they go along.
----

Re the above - expect to see more info about some projects re ARGFest 2007 that we can create here to raise money for the next one.
Watch this space and the wiki.
----

Did I say that I miss you guys still? Oh yeah, I did. You're the greatest.

Checking in late here with my OMG! ARGfest! post. It really was an amazing weekend and it would not have been possible without Rose's commitment to making it the best that it could possibly be. Rose, you really deserve every compliment you've received and then some. Nobody would ever know that you weren't a professional event planner - I've been to many events that were far less organized. We'd be lost without you. Space - you, too, deserve all the credit you get and then some. So many things fell in to your lap that you never intended to deal with when you made that first "hey! let's go to vegas! argfest! woo!" post. And, Brian Clark, thank you so much for throwing your support behind the event. It may have been a rather simple gesture, but it really removed so much of the stress for the planners and allowed them to redirect energies and move forward. And for all the other people involved behind the scenes - Gup for the fantastic lanyards that allowed us to embrace our dorkiness, Brian for the best buzzword bingo ever, the festquest team - I'm so sorry that I didn't participate, Giskard for spending so much of the conference day checking people in and all the others that I'm forgetting. You guys gave us an amazing weekend, thank you! Really, I meant that to be one simple sentence saying thank you. It just wasn't possible.

It was such a great time and I'm so pleased that I got to see so many familiar faces and, even better, put some names to faces for the very first time. And there were so many of you, unfortunately, that I didn't get a chance to talk to. That's my biggest regret, really. We may talk about the events and the panels and parties and whatnot, and those are all great, but it's the people that make ARGfest. It's my annual reminder that this is one of the greatest communities of people in the world. Not that I'd ever need that reminder, of course Wink

I miss y'all and can't wait until the next one!

Geez, was it really a week ago i flew into SFO? Who's ibright dea was putting ARGFest back-to-back with GDC anyways? Wink

Anyway, to chime in, it was great seeing folks and meeting new people, although I found there was definitely not enough of me to go around to spend enough time with everyone I wanted to. I'm still just in awe of how quickly this thing has grown in a few short years. Thanks to Rose, Pita, Ariock and whoever else was involved in the planning and organization.

I look forward to Euro-ARGFest next year! (sanctioned or not)

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to mention this. When I got arrested during the Chinese New Year's Parade, I found this mysterious thumb-drive under the cot in my cell....

I am sorry I missed the Vern Stevenson memorial. For some idiotic reason, I thought it was on Thursday. I had planned to wear my Spiral Club T-shirt, and flashed my Spiral membership card.

If you find yourself having frightening flashbacks, you might want to try Prozira. You should ask Mike about it. Laughing

So, are you gone yet? Funnily enough, I have a recording of the last NIN concert of their last tour, but I think my recorder stretched the audio out a bit. I was wondering if you could take a look at it?

I'd just like to echo hmrpita's sentiments regarding FestQuest, and to say this:

I MISS YOU! COME BACK! THERE'S PLENTY OF ROOM HERE! IT'S KINDA PRICEY, BUT YOU'LL GET USED TO IT!

*cough* please excuse my outburst....

Actually, I have a question. Did anyone keep any of the bits from the fest quest, or did they all get tossed? Just curious.

I have the map (with the cake solve scribbled on the back) and the cake group's instruction sheet (Again, with my scribbling). Someone else got the penny, though. I realized that with my grumbling about the difficulties with the puzzle you may have thought I was complaining. I was not. It was a huge ton of fun, and just the kind of cooperative solving I love. i.e. I'm adding my thanks to the planners.

Ooooo, is it there a recording of Trent manipulating sounds from the zheng, erhu, dizi, pipa, gu, and luo to create a code that spells out "Year of the March of the Pigs"?

My question for steve - if you did get arrested during the Chinese New Year's parade while ARGFest was going on, would anyone believe you?

Steve to whoever he can get on the phone "I'm in jail. Come get me"

Person who happens to answer phone: "Oh right, like Gupfee's been kidnapped."

To group: "Steve's in jail. More Festquest everyone!"

About the photo contest. I'm overwhelmed. I think it is safe to say I am figuring out more prizes because there were so many great photographers there. I haven't forgotten you!
