[TRAILHEAD] Possible 'CCTV' game trailhead? (Australia)

Hi there! I'm semi-new: I've posted here before, but only while I was playing one particular ARG, so I'm not 100% on all the customs of the forum.

I think that I might've found a trailhead for a game while on the way to work this morning (in Melbourne, Australia), and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it or might be interested themselves. I'm also hoping that this is the right way to go about posting this information (fingers crossed!)

There's a railway overpass that crosses Spencer St just south of Flinders St, and the buttress beneath is a popular place for people to put up rave/band posters. But this morning, there were two copies of an odd poster side-by-side. Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera, so I can't take a picture to post here.

The poster shows four still frames from what look like CCTV security cameras, complete with timestamps. The images clearly show a young woman being chased by at least two masked pursuers. There is also some plain text which reads (paraphrasing): "To find out what happens next, SMS the word 'CCTV' to (NUMBER)" I've omitted the number because I'm not sure of the forum policy on these things.

If you get really close, you can also see a line of very fine print at the bottom about how it costs 50c to SMS that number, that you need a phone with X features, and that it won't work on networks Y and Z, along with a warning that it's only operational until November 17, 2006.

I sent the message to the number several hours ago, and still have not recieved any reply, so I'm inclined to think that it's not just a simplistic viral marketing campaign. Or at least, if it is, it's very poorly organised.

Has anyone else seen these posters anywhere else or received a response to their SMS?

I've been meaning to post this, but been way slack. Glenferrie station has been plastered with the posters as well, and also chalked with the domain. There's no problem posting the number, from memory it was 1999 1119 (beware of call charges!) please correct me if I'm wrong.

I haven't bothered with sms, since I'm not sure I'm going to follow the campaign.

Anyway, jumping back to what this is: you might have noticed a website chalked on the pavement, that is also connected to the game. Here is a press release from the makers:
hoodlum wrote:
PS TRIXI is a world first alternate reality game and interactive drama series created and produced by Hoodlum Active exclusively for Yahoo!7.

Over the next 12 weeks you are about to be taken on a ride like no other as Trixi and Hamish invite you to be part of their innercircle. This drama plays out in real time and gives you an opportunity to win a car by playing the game.

To be here you have obviously registered with Yahoo!7 which makes eligible to be part of this exciting series a chance to win a new Toyota Yaris (see Terms and Conditions) by playing the game.

To play the game simply connect, contribute and complete the tasks that Trixi and Hamish set you over the 12 weeks to earn points. You can see your progress on the your details page which indicates what points you have made and what you have completed. Each week you are required to earn at least 100 Points which give you a weekly key.

Each weekly key is a potential entry in the competition to win an amazing new Toyota Yaris! You must collect 12 weekly keys to be in the draw and be sure to look out for Bonus Keys. Each Bonus Key gives you an additional entry into the competition to win the car!

So now you know!

Trixi xx

ETA: see http://www.trixi.com.au/ for a site that doesn't bump you to a login page Smile
I don't want to start bad mouthing the game in the second post, but using the ARG term is pretty dubious...see here for more on that

Ohhh! OK, thanks for that! Yes, that's the right number.

I didn't see any website URLs chalked up anywhere in the area, but I re-read the posters on my way home after I made that first post and I noticed an e-mail address to contact in case of difficulties: trixicustomerservice at the Yahoo! Australia & NZ server.

So, no leading URL to be seen in the vicinity and still no reply to the SMS. Looks like it's gonna be a good one! Rolling Eyes

EDIT: I think I'll give this a miss. I'm on dialup, so I already dislike ARGs that overuse streaming media, etc., but they expect me to sit and watch Home and Away? I have to draw the line somewhere.

On the other hand, I feel somewhat motivated to encourage Australian based arg-ish type campaigns.

This is the first I've heard of it - despite being on the email list to hear about Hoodlum's upcoming productions. I guess I'm saying don't hold your breath waiting for them to return that sms.

I presume this is still going. I just came across a trailhead during a Today Tonight clip on the TT website...(have a look at http://www.seven.com.au/todaytonight/video, then under Oct 23 there's a clip for "Teenage community terrorists on DVD"...the trailhead is at the beginning of that).

The actual site is really confusing...not sure what's going on?

Ahh nevermind if you like serious ARG's, its a pretty flimsy storyline and interaction all seems to be one way, but look for yourself if your still interested.
