Unfiction Secret Santa gift exchange

I think it would be fun to do a Secret Santa exchange for the holidays this year. I've set up a group on Elfster to use. The exchange will have a $25 spending limit. The deadline to sign up is December 1, and all gifts must be sent by December 17.

If you are interested, please PM me here (or mail meSPLATaddlepated.net, or catch me on IRC, or AIM addlepated03 or Jabber addlepatedSPLATgmail.com) and let me know so I can add you to the list! I will need your first name and your email address so I can send an invitation.

Edit: As of Nov. 29 we have 21 signups:

That sounds like a nice idea. Is it restricted to the North American continent due to shipping deadlines?

Hmm - what do you think the ship time would be to Australia? We might could bump the deadline up a bit.

FYI

The connection US- Europe I have experienced delivery of same sized parcels from little under two week up to 4 weeks (standard, priority should take 4-6 days). Customs may have something to do with that.

If you are going to send outside your country or even crosscontinental:
Be sure you got on it: This goes for everybody not just from and to the US.
Easiest is The customs declarationsticker from any postoffice.
or do it by hand and write:
    "Unsolicited Gift"
Whats in the parcel (preferably one word: Fashion, toy, chocolate , book, jewelry)
Whats the value. Gifts are duty free up to 100$
    Return adress
Name(s) of the recipient(s) (and adress duh Wink ).

If your parcel contains more then one wrrapped gift, each single one need s to have the same info on it. Satisfying customs is hard work.

Without it it will be sent back to you. Custums is very clear on that. Considering the amounts of mail in that season this could take long.

I see no problem with non-USians joining in. If you happen to draw someone overseas, just ship their package as early as you can. And if you're overseas, be understanding if your gift is a Happy New Year gift because of mail delay. Wink

Nice idea, maybe you could maintain a list of signups in the first post, it'll still be secret but you'll know who you might get. Unless only two people sign up, perish the thought.

Done! You have 19 more days to sign up. And 43 more shopping days until Christmas. Shocked

Just a thought for those who would like to sign up but are concerned about funds, shipping times, and the like.

The $25 gift amount is just a guideline. If someone were to give their recipient a puzzle trail (or similar), I'd think that would be excellent, and well-equivalent to a store-bought gift. As a mom, I know that something from the heart is best. Wink If you would like to do that and don't have web space, I'm happy to donate some. Contact me.

Another excellent suggestion from bags is game swag. How cool would it be if you received a set of LCP chips, for instance? That's free, but to an ARGer has a greater value than lots of store-bought generic stuff.

Additionally, I got a Bits and Pieces catalog in the mail today - they have some really neat puzzly stuff. You could likely drop-ship something from them. I've ordered in the past from Signals catalog and been pleased; they have some neat stuff.

A personal word of warning - I had a terrible experience last month with Lillian Vernon, and I'd warn people against using them.

(None of this stuff is meant to be official endorsement or condemnation, just personal experience.)

Here's a bump - the deadline to sign up is on Thursday, December 1. I will do the draw sometime after noon CST.

Last bump. If you'd like to sign up, now would be an excellent time to do so. You have until noon CST tomorrow!

Names have been drawn - check your Elfster account to see who you've got and to ask them questions, if needed. Don't forget to include your address on your profile so your Santa can send your gift to you.

Enaxor ROCKS!

My package arrived today but there is a puzzle to solve.

I managed the first on my own:

Code:
s jgn qhje fnpjmuvw
bfsvwe xst psn
Tug yijwv klxje vl sgqvymgy
tutt qsw dyll db
Bn gvfvv ygr lhu
ls irmg s prak
Llgii tje garwi plquwrf
mhs afy fmsg lewo

Secret Santa

And someone in chat pushed me just a nudge so I knew how to decode the last part:

Code:
43, 15, 33, 15, 33, 12, 15, 43, 45, 23, 15, 34, 51, 33, 12, 15, 43, 15,
14, 35, 34, 15, 44

But I also wanted to share the middle part (and that requires a scan of the document).

Have fun but you can keep your solves for now. I figure I have a couple of weeks to get this lock opened Smile

Edited to add: The hint from the numbers code finally worked in my head and I figured where/how to search on UF. So I had my little "duh" moment (and Konashark gets a point for the assist - "Is it in reference from one of the older ARGs"; and I narrowed my search to my first ARG).
Still haven't figured out the middle code - probably has some numbers mixed in with the letters.

Did I already say: ENAXOR rocks! Konashark is really impressed.

Code:
"KONA'S ARG KIT"
The Code Book
(to help with cracking codes)
A Journal
(To keep ARG notes)
Chocolates
(for some late night energy)
Ribbons (one green, one lilac, both my favorite colors)
(To tie back your hair)
A Quest for $50,000
(To fill those between ARG Times)
(go to Scrollquest.com)
and
A Little Friend (cute stuffed mouse)
(To keep you company)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

ps: let me know if and when you want a hint on the middle cipher or you can ask Ehsan.
