Apparently Hank's daughter is very interested in energy packets as they relate to discrepancies in the flow of time....

Quote:
I thought you'd want to know how W.B.'s birthday went. I made it in time for her party on Saturday, and we had such a good time! She twirled around to the music like she was 6 and still wearing her "clip-clop" shoes with her little fairy dress.....and her laugh! It's been months since I've heard her laugh like she actually felt the joy she was emoting. It was encouraging to seen her have such a good time. We even got a little father/daughter time that lead to a beautiful conversation. We discussed her "new" style, books she's reading, and "energy quants as related to temporal anomalies (sp?)." I have to admit, that last part went way over my head. I had no idea what she was rambling on about. She has always loved studying and discussings The Sciences. She was able to celesstially navigate our journeys on the Serendipity at the age of 10 with what appeared to be little effort. Of course the whole time she was doing it she would be singing a silly song, painting her nails, performing impromtu plays, or just endlessly pestering me for a quick stop to go swimming. She really is a genius: in a "head-in-the-clouds" kind of way. That young woman is destined for great things.

W.B.'s good spirit and all the help I'm being offered has made me feel optimistic for the first time since...........well, since Sarah.

I don't know why I find it hard to say her name when I'm feeling happy. I suppose it's because I still feel ashamed I can look forward to a future when her hopes, dreams, and desires ended 7 years ago.

John says I'm an idiot for feeling that way. Did I mention my dearest friend is an asshole? Who tells their friend he's an idiot when he's grieving? This morning, however, I think I will reassess his tactless words and let my mind settle into a calm sea of optimism.

Hank

Where'd you find this? Hank still hasn't emailed me Sad I asked him if he liked Coast to Coast AM...I figured we'd have some common ground.

I am so totally crying right now.

Regarding Puzzle Solution
My efforts earn me a question

In an attempt to solve the maze puzzle, I sent an email to yshklanti, and I have just received a response.

Quote:
Thank you for your determination. Men are often predictable. I had assumed
the mindset of man had not changed, but there are often still a few with
good intentions.

Mankind continues to seek easy solutions for the problems they face. This
laziness often leads to much suffering by men and others. I know this so
very well throughout my years.

Esetula - regret

It is something I have felt for quite some time for the actions of others
and my inability to prevent it. Those who seek to find the easy solutions
to life's problems will often face the same. For your dedication to
following through with life's issues, I will reward you with knowledge. You
may ask me one question and I will provide a straight forward answer, you
have 4 hours from the time of this e-mail to ask it

Subject: puzzle solution

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I took a look at the "twosides" puzzle and I think I have figured it out.
Using the lines as walls and only changing direction when I reach a wall, it
took me seven moves to get from X to O. So, if I use 7 for the x in the
formula at the bottom I get 7, 21, 3, 21. I have attached an image of my
solution if you want to take a look.

So, any ideas on a question that we need a straightforward answer to? I've got about 3 hours left...tick tock tick tock.

Nice work. I just thought of the same idea using the number of moves in the equations before i found this post, so good to know we're on the same wavelength. Not really sure what a good question would be. Maybe you could ask for a password or maybe the purpose of the equations?

I'd ask something more like "for what purpose are Hank and his daughter needed?" Forget the equations, that was just for the puzzle.

Lots of questions about the language come to mind, but go with whatever seems important to you. We're assuming right now that the syntax is the same as English (and that assumption seems to be borne out so far), but it would be nice to confirm that. I don't know, though; we can probably figure that out on our own.

Great work on that puzzle.

I also think questions should be language-related, perhaps What language is it? or Where can I/We find a lexicon for it?

Puck you have indeed solved the twosides equation....it just needs to be taken a little further I think.

7-21-3-21

GUCU

Rot6 = MAIA

Atlantis literally translated means Daughter of Atlas....

MAIA was just such a daughter....

It's a short term for a Caesar Cipher

ROT6 stands for rotation by 6. It's shorthand for saying that he's using the Caesar cipher with the letters shifted by 6 places. So A would be G, B would H, C would be I, and so on. You can google it for more info.

EDIT: Whoops, got beat to the punch.

I get overlappng and sometimes conflicting information on Atlas:

1) Atlas is a scion of the Titans, the Greek race of giants, and the son of Iapetus and the nymph Clymene. He is the father of the Hesperides, the Hyades and the Pleiades. He was also thought to be the king of legendary Atlantis. "The Pleiades" was the name given to the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. Pleione was one of the Oceanids (nymphs of the great ocean). Maia was the eldest of the daughters, and said to be the most beautiful. Being shy, she lived quietly and alone in a cave on Mount Cyllene, in Arcadia.

2) According to Plato, the first king of Atlantis was also named Atlas, but that Atlas was a mortal son of Poseidon. Poseidon was the god of the sea. According to Solon's notes the history of Atlantis began at the beginning of time. It was then that the immortal gods divided the world among themselves and each ruled their proportion. The god Poseidon received Atlantis, an island larger the Libya and Asia combined. He chose for a wife the mortal woman Cleito, and with her begun the royal family of Atlantis. Cleito bore Poseidon ten sons, five sets of boys. Atlas the first son of the first set of twins, was made king over the vast territory by his father.

There are also some publications out there that suggest that the Greek Gods were actually the revered and very mortal Kings of Atlantis.

Quote:
The mythology of the Greeks, which their oldest writers do not pretend to have invented, was no more than a light air, which had passed from a more ancient people into the flutes of the Greeks, which they modulated to such descants as best suited their fancies.

The Greeks, too young to have shared in the religion of Atlantis, but preserving some memory of that great country and its history, proceeded to convert its kings into gods, and to depict Atlantis itself as the heaven of the human race.

ETA: From YshkLanti:
Quote:
7-21-3-21 Is correct, I gave the first person to answer this second side of the puzzle an opportunity to ask me a question, any question… yet they did not, I wonder how curious you all are

So what ws the first side?
I propose you ask something more plot related than puzzle or language related. The language will come and personally I'm kind of enjoying the trickle. How about: What significance does Hank's foundling daughter hold for Atlantis?

Well from the little I know of Greek myth, the two reports may not be as conflicting as they seem. The whole wacky thing of having two fathers and a mother isn't actually uncommon in Greek mythology. One father is mortal and one is God and there's the one mother that bears the child. Greek and Hindu mythology are similar in this respect. And anything you find that seems like it conflicts even bearing this in mind... well... Greece was a big place and there were a lot of people telling the stories and a lot of versions of the stories.
There isn't really a ruling body making sure translations mesh with Greek myth like there are with religions that are still practiced. Look into any religion and you'll see that there tend to be different interpretations and versions of stories. That is, unless the other versions of stories that weren't as accepted were made to dissapear through concious effort by some group. As far as this applies to Greek mythology though, I think anything you find on the top google links are probably accepted enough to go with.

As I said, overlapping and contradictory.

Being a Titan and the son of Iapetus and Clymene and being the half-mortal son of Poseidon and Cleito, to me seems like two very different accounts. Wink

From YshkLanti after sending "MAIA" as an answer to the test:
Quote:
(Paraphrasing) Who is Maia?

7-21-3-21 Is correct, I gave the first person to answer this second side of the puzzle an opportunity to ask me a question, any question… yet they did not
I wonder how curious you all are

My Reply:
Quote:
(Paraphrasing again) Maia is blah blah blah...Mythology...blah...blah....Maia...blah...Greeks.

Shall I ask you a question in addition to the one you've already alotted? I won't usurp another's position, but I have many questions when the time comes.

From YshkLanti:
Quote:
Thank you for these stories. Do you realize you are telling the stories of individuals who had never stepped foot on Atlantis? Stories often become over dramatized by various events throughout history. I am sure you know what happens when a rumor is passed from ear to ear. These are merely stories, written to romanticize the tragic events of mankind. Your belief about the Gods being merely the mortal kings of Atlantis would most accurately represent the truths of the Lanti.

You wish to ask a question, but waiver the rights to another individual who refused to receive the reward that was offered to them by not responding within the allotted time frame. You may ask me a question on their behalf, but I cannot promise the forthcoming that would have been permitted in answering the expired question.

My Reply:
Quote:
I don't understand how I can waiver the rights of another individual if that individual has already forfeited the question. Before I proceed with the question, I must assure myself that I am not taking someone's reward.

From YshkLanti:
Quote:
I most assuredly appreciate your understanding. Yes he has forfeited his "reward" as he was given a four hour window to ask his question, two extra hours have since past.

My Reply:
Quote:
All righty then. I fully appreciate your relucatance to be as forthcoming with me as I was not the one who solved your test...but here is my question anyway, although I fully expect to be stonewalled as you're certainly not the most straightforward person on Earth. Of course providing you indeed are a person and are on Earth that is Wink

Question: What significance does Hank's daughter hold for the Lanti?
