Sorry to spam. For what it's worth, my reading on the others is:

#1

Bottle
Octopus
Spoon
Hand / Palm
(BOSH?) (BOSP?)

#2
Leaf
Apple
Spectacles/ Sunglasses / Glasses
Snake / Serpent / Eel / Worm
(LASS?) (LASE?)

#3
Turtle
Owl
Lemon
Domino
(TOLD)

Thanks to the clearer art in the more recent pictures it's a bit easier to tell what they're supposed to be. Possibly they all string together to form an ongoing sentence - Something Something TOLD GOLD CITY.

Good luck.

I got a package from tCotSA today, and I am completely lost.

Package Front
Package Back

When I opened it there was a shingle inside marked with dot impression poked into it.

Shingle Front
Shingle Back

And, writing on the inside of the cloth.

Cloth interior

I've been trying braille, but to no avail. Wink

Any ideas?

After staring for a few minutes, I've go nothing.

I'm starting to think we may fail the Sedulous Amalgamation after all.

They send out some tough puzzles!

Well I couldn't sleep so I made some edits on the shingle images to make it easier to see the holes.

tCotSA Shingle Front Edit
tCotSA Shingle Back Edit

And, I scanned the hangman that was on the back of the envelope

Hangman

Ya Lovek their puzzles are tough indeed, but we've also been hampered by the fact that we always seem to be missing one packet that gives us the last vital clue. I'm really enjoying this game, its awesome coming home from work and being greeted by a new tCotSA package! It's like Christmas!

Right way up?

Regarding the letters written on the cloth, I note that many of the letters have been drawn such that they come another letter if you look at them upside down. (j = r, n = u, d= p, etc). Note in particular how nothing is dotted (although that could just be an artifact of the difficulty of writing on cloth). If it weren't for those letter "e"s, it could be equally legible upside down...

EDIT: I notice also that the hangman has a raindrop pointing down, and a raindrop pointing up. Maybe it -is- intended to be read both way.

Stumped by the shingle, though.

Got a letter (11x8.5 in.) from tCotSA a few days ago, sorry I just got to it, but life is busy. In any case the link to view and download it is http://filer.case.edu/pjb23/tCotSA%20Jan%2020.jpg. Nothing particularly remarkable about the envelope, the sending PO was Royal Oak MI 480, and the stamp was of a Gee's Bend quilt.

Edited because I'm an idiot.

Obligatory first post nonsense...

Anyway, been lurking for a while, but never thought of anything insightful 'til now. A few things spring to mind about the cloth - have you heated it yet? It doesn't seem like the type of puzzle encountered before, but it's either hidden or it's something we are supposed to overlay.
And the shingles, what size are they? Could we get a ruler in one of those pictures? I think the spacing is what's important. (or all this could be wrong, I wouldn't be surprised.)

Edit: I fiddled around with the cloth lettering and unrustyrat's letter, and couldn't find any letters that line up. I don't think they are related that way.
Any other unsolved disassociated lettering floating around that you think might work?

Edit 2: Requin Devrais, post that hangman! I've compiled the ones we have so far to get:

O G _ _ _
_ _ C _ M
...........V J

Just to make sure they aren't forgotten.
And having cooled on the text (finding nothing important) I'm taking a vow to analyze that shingle and not just jump somewhere else. Like I did with everything else.

Edit 3: Hmph. I checked to make sure it wasn't the same code as the dot sheets we got earlier - you get:
13 - M
17 - Q
26 - Z
5 - E
16 - P
18 - R
Which has no ROT-x'es or anagrams (none of its ROT-x'es had anagrams either, I checked, but feel free to confirm it.)

Now, I tried to measure the distance between dots, some seem to have a consistent spacing (especially in the clusters) but it doesn't carry over to any workable numbers.

Heres images next to a ruler, the board is 10 inches long, 3 inches high.
Nothing jumps out at me right away.

The cloth is some sort of thick cotton, I think heating it up would only result in me causing a small fire, and a lot of panic.

Edit: Spelling

Mucho Gracias!

Ahh, that looks promising. I posted edit3 right as you posted, and despite what I said, they seem to line up on the quarter inch. Let's see what we get.

I hate shingles!

My previous post about them lining up is so very wrong. I'm pretty sure the spacing between dots does not translate directly to anything, simply because there is no consistent spacing that could translate into numbers. Also, the dots fail to line up horizontally, so it's not braille or the like. So in essence, the only thing I can think of is that you are supposed to lay something over it and the dots will spell something.

[edited out transcription of the letter, jamieroert works better]

Transcript of the letter from tcotsa

The writing across the top reads

"it is time to proceed beyond the
evaluative chapter of our epic undertaking.
set aside all nonessential chores and
make ready for the principle campaign.

when you make contact with our
operative you will need to verify
your identity as an ally of the
committee."

The sloping writing reads

"the idiom of authentication
will be the brace of ceruse
integers wanting from
your collection"

I think that this refers to the two red numbers on the back of the envelope, has every one that has recieved a letter had a different pair of red numbers?
