I looked through mine and have two pairs of numbers:

four one
four seven

I don't think I had any others.

I also noticed the pair on the first mailing to SpaceBass was "one one"... if that's a clue in any way.

And might I had... Wow! There have been many puzzles we have no clue how to solve!

Not sure if this is how everyone did it, but they got my address when I put it on the first postcard I sent them (as the return address).

Basically, solve a puzzle -> get a puzzle.

The first puzzle, of course, went to uF, and had tCotSA's address as the return address, thus beginning the chain.

I'm sure if you just mail them a card with your address, they'll be happy to drive you friggin' nuts too.

If the previous person was correct about the word 'ceruse,' then this is weird. The word ceruse is a rarely-used synonym for Cerussite, which is apparently the main component in lead paint.

I've just been reading this thread, and I just want to make sure I understand... the boot/plume/beetle puzzle was not solved yet, but some administrative flub-up on the part of tCotSA caused the clues for the next puzzle to start being sent out?

ceruse is white

...white lead as a pigment. The (red) pairs of numbers I've always interpreted as a way of keeping track of things, the first was one one, then one two, when we solved puzzle one, we got puzzle... four or five, I think. But the lettering has never been white.
I thought the answer would be the numbers identifying one of the pictures, but they don't have any numbers. Or at least the three people who got the pictures didn't say anything. Can someone with the real thing confirm that there are, indeed, no numbers? They just might be written in white somewhere...

Redhatty, your links are broken for me, I can't enlarge your pictures. But I can make out that it isn't a hint. It's an anti-hint. It makes things more difficult. I'm not sure what letter in the hangman puzzle you have, but that slot is already filled, with a "J", from one of Lovek's envelopes that held the cut paper wads. (top of page four, if you are curious)
But the red lines, do they mean anything, or are they just pretty?

Edit - Tyler K, yes, that's what happened, but we are still working on the plume/boot/beetle puzzle. I don't know what happened to the cities.

They mean nothing to me. the symbols on this set of "hangman" dashes are different though - |_| and inverted of the same

the letter is an H

and you can visit my flickr and see them with the all sizes options when you click on them - ignore the rest of the stuff there

edit to add, unless the lines go with the shingle in some way???

No, I don't think the lines have anything do do with the shingle, but I thought of something. Take the number of lines in each "cluster" and turn those numbers into letters.
Edit: Just tried it. No dice, even checked for ROT-ing.

Contacting tcotsa

When we reached the position where we were working on the two puzzles, (the volumes of maps and the drawings of the boot, feather and hammer) I sent them an e-mail to their address posted earlier tCotSASPLATgmail.com to try and clear up what puzzle we were on, with my home address on the bottom. I didn't expect a reply but thought it wouldn't hurt. A week later a letter arrived.
Hope that helps

Sorry, my mistake

Just going back through the letter after reading the last few posts, my mistake, the word could easily be cerise

Banging my head against the beetle/boot/plume puzzle... only one thing I've noticed that might be significant. To recap, the text for each is:
TOESOYNOC
LERIKUELS

BETOYERALLOATREKY
SOWEHISHOTERKY

ETLEERPOTTORECKRROWS
SEMMELEDBEYSRETB

Not sure if this should be spoilered or not, so I will... (There doesn't seem to be a "wild speculation" tag)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first 2 lines have equal numbers of letters. The top line of the 2nd pair has 3 more letters than the bottom, "EKY". The top line of the 3rd pair has 4 more letters than the bottom, "ROWS".

"KEY ROWS"?

W00T! We've been moved to ARGs with Potential!

That means we can break things up into different threads. Anyone want to start breaking up puzzles into separate discussions? I can do some when I have time, but that might be a day or two.

At one point, I had gathered all of the unsolved puzzles together for my own convenience. It should still be on this harddrive somewhere. After work I will probably post what I have and see what needs to be updated.

As a side note, does anyone have any suggestions for following the insanity that is multiple threads? I usually purposefully join the smaller games because they are easier to follow in one thread. Attempts to join bigger games have ended in me being endlessly confused. This will be the first one I'm part of that became multiple threads and I'd like to still keep up if at all possible.

That would be great! Thanks!

Well, fortunately, while tCotSA has many puzzles, the pace of the game is very slow. That should help with following multiple threads.

Another thing I find handy is the "View posts since last visit" link at the top-right of each page.

Lastly, if needed... we'll start up a "Story So Far" thread that we'll keep updated with a very brief summary of the latest happenings.

I got another letter from tCotSA, I'll start a seperate thread for my wood and cloth puzzle, and add the letter to that thread once I get a little time to scan it.
