Revenge Of The Revenge...

Quote:
In this week's concoction of goodness:

* Perplex City: The Board Game
* Ask Mind Candy - Episode 3
* Story Update: Earlywine. Babel. Revenge.
* Leaderboard Update
* Bonus Newsletter Puzzle

It's been one of the most dramatic weeks ever in Perplex City as Scarlett & Violet discover the truth behind the hideous
experiments at Viendenbourg - and their father's involvement. But what happened when they broke the story to the Sentinel?
And what exciting event is happening online next Wednesday? You'll have to read on to find out...

** PERPLEX CITY: THE BOARDGAME! **

As we mentioned last week, our wonderful, new, puzzletastic board game is now available to buy online from Firebox.com for
just £24.95! You can find everything you want to know about it on the Board Game website, including sample puzzles from the
game, a trail around the Perplex City websites, and a fun Flash game that pits puzzle-solving skills against the clock. You
can even embed it on your blog/Myspace/website/forehead, and challenge your friends. Enjoy!

Buy it now from Firebox: http://www.firebox.com/product/1590?src_t=t20

** ASK MIND CANDY: EPISODE 3 **

You've hassled, cajoled and persuaded, and the new Ask Mind Candy is now available for your viewing pleasure, along with links
to Cubefest photos, the 1KBWC project, and a wonderful fan-made 3D version of Perplex City (or a bit of it, anyway):

** STORY UPDATE **

Violet and Scarlett arm themselves and head for the secret military facility at Viendenbourg - only to find that it's become a
heritage centre with guided tours and a souvenir shop. Cutting through the cover-up, they unscramble some corrupted files from
the Viendenbourg trash and discover details of horrific, fatal experiments conducted at the facility - sanctioned by Sente, their
own father!

After much soul-searching, Scarlett takes the information to The Sentinel and a city-wide scandal begins. Council Leader Camryn
Scott is voted out, Nathan Earlywine voted in, and Sente is vilified by the public.

Meanwhile, the people of Earth have been getting more mysterious tip-offs from 'Combed Thunderclap' at the Library of Babel site:

** RECEDA'S REVENGE II: THE REVENGE **

And even more strangely, Combed Thunderclap seems to be hinting us back towards an old favourite from earlier in the Cube trail:
text adventure Receda's Revenge, previously used by the Third Power to pass sekrit info between their agents! Can the Cube Hunters
infiltrate the game? Find out by playing Receda's Revenge 2: The Revenge, on the evening (GMT) of Wednesday October 25th!

** LEADERBOARD UPDATE **

Blimey - it's all a bit quiet at the top, with all the top contenders staying more or less put. However, don't forget about the
Extreme Puzzling contest - giving *you* the opportunity to earn precious bonus points and unseat the reigning leaders. Lightworks
is this week's speediest new solver with 1983 points and 81 solves to her name, while aceaysar is the month's puzzler supreme, with
12918 points and 239 solves in just three weeks. (Although 'flicb' isn't far behind!)

** BONUS NEWSLETTER PUZZLE **

Last week we asked: What chemical element names can be made using only the abbreviations for other chemicals? The twelve answers are:

ArSeNiC | AsTaTiNe | BiSmUTH
CArBoN | CoPPEr | IrON
KrYPtON | NeON | PHoSPHoRuS
SiLiCoN | TiN | XeNON

This week's challenge: find a word that contains all five vowels in order, *and* the letter Y. Go!

We'll divulge the answer next week, but until then, happy hunting - and good luck on Wednesday...

Mind Candy

Though it's not specified that Y be in order also, I came up with

Facetiously

Does the repeated mention of this specific piece of information suggest to anyone else that we're still overlooking something? Maybe there's another site we're supposed to find, or maybe the libraryofbabel pages are giving us some more information we're not seeing yet...or maybe not. Thoughts?

I call Shenanigans. Only five of these elements are spelled using "only the abbreviations for other chemicals": Arsenic, Astatine, Copper, Iron, and Tin. The rest use their own abbreviations as well.

ETA: xnbomb points out that while their constructions of Bismuth, Carbon, and Silicon are incorrect according to the stated question, these elements can still be spelled by beginning with B for Boron, Ca for Calcium, and S for Sulphur. I stand corrected and bow to his insight.

Also abstemiously and abstentiously.
