I don't think it was a negative review of the game. Just a poor one, and I'd be offended by that only if it had been the only one, but all the games they reviewed had the same "we have not played the game, but from what I've heard..." feeling. I have just marginally been following Ny Takma, but I could see none of them had followed the game.

So I think is just a matter of this being the first podcast. Most of the posdcast always begin rather poorly. I bet for next installments they'll try to do their homework better and actually do a full research before doing a review.

Imbri: As a constructive comment, for the next cast you can get in touch with one player from each game on the hot list. A quick walk into the chat would be enought, and comment on what the point of view on the review will be. With just the reaction you'll get from that things will vastly improve.

About this game, Hye is right. The PM's ignore too much people too much time, but they keep trying to focus things on character interaction. On my personal case, you know all the things I've done, yet I had only two chats, none of them lasting more than a couple of minutes, and most of the mails I get is to request I do more things for the game.

But I love this game. It has been an amazing experience and I'm glad this is my first ARG. But the main reason for that is the people playing it. I mean, the PM's are good, the game is not bad, but the players are the ones really putting the show, from deep involvement on the story to amazing research, passing trought cyber exorcisms. Maybe that's why we take it personally when someone who doesn't know the game diss about it.

Anyhow... Thanks guys for being such great players. Smile

I just want to echo imbri on one of her points:

Player-created guides or story-so-far posts: they're not just helpful for ARGN podcasts. Wink

Speaking as a moderator, I love people so hard when they make posts that summarize the story or list all the in-game sites, so I can sticky them.

Please don't feel that you have to be a "veteran" or an "expert" or a moderator or whatever to do those sort of posts or guides. They're a great help and a good way to help people get into the games you love.

Even if the game is almost over, if someone wants to make one for AV, that'd be great: you never know when someone's going to be researching a game that's over.

One quick thought...This game is probably only really starting (/me crosses her fingers) on the 31st when the Doc and the succubus finally get it on. So, maybe we should think about a guide for new players...even tho they will probably get ignored just like the rest of us. ok, that's the last time i mention the fact the PMs ignore most of us.

That's a very well thought-out reply. Frankly, as a playerbase we've been fairly remiss in documenting what's going on in this game. The lack of good documentation has probably been at least as big of a hurdle to new players as the oft-mentioned lack of interaction outside of a handful of people. Embarassed

Something worth discussing in the AV postmorten, if you guys are interested in covering that, will be how best to document this kind of roleplay-heavy ARG. I would like to see more games like this in the future, as they fit my style of play better, and knowing how to make them more accessable to people dropping in mid-game can only help the genre as a whole.

Thanks for your the time you've put into throwing together the netcast, imbi, and I look forward to having that resource for searching out games in the future.

Just a suggestion: summarize the IM convos very briefly.

My eyes tend to glaze over immediately upon seeing an IM/IRC transcript, and I don't think I'm the only one. That's one of the reasons I get turned off to many small-scale grassroots games. As I've said elsewhere, I even sorta disliked reading the chats from LCP, and one of the main characters there was played by a guy who's pretty much my favorite author ever, 'cept for Shakespeare, Austen and Wilde and maybe a few other dead guys.

So, often when I'm trying to get a feel for a grassroots game, I would loveloveLOVE it if the people who had the chat would post a nice little summary of what happened before quoting the chat. 'Cause there's really no way I'm going to slog through the transcript.

Well, I can summarize what I have - the only reason the entire chats were posted was because I was sent several PM's to do so...

Oh, I'm not saying don't post the entire chats -- that detail might be necessary or at least desirable for people who are playing the game in-depth. I'm just saying at the top or bottom a summary would be nice. Smile

I appreciate that and, much as I'd love to take all sorts of credit, it's space and, especially, jamesi that deserve it. They were the ones that got it going and figured out the best approach and how to record it all and then jamesi edited it all (yes, it would have been 4-5 minutes LONGER! omg!) and has worked on getting it up and out there. He rocks like that Smile I'm just thrilled that I got to be a part of it.
