Email Phyllis Narrative On EOS Team Visit #1

Dear Sunny,
I sent out a report about the EOS team arriving this morning and I simply can't remember to whom I sent it. Dear me. So I'm going to send the rest of the day's reports to you and hope you will be able to share them in order so everyone can appreciate their narrative function. I am wanting, as much as possible to bring you all along with me as I observe Iris doing her work.

I suggested going to the Library mainly because all of you felt so strongly
about it and told Iris I thought everything started happening after I opened the trunk. Now, of course, I'm thinking it really all started with Dale's wish but I still haven't told her about that. I think she needed to take a break from the dining room, too.

As we approached the Library, Iris commented on a strange mark on the side of the building. I asked, "What mark? Where?" I got goose bumps as she described what she was seeing. Of course, it was the graffiti; she saw it even though it has been sand-basted away! I was very impressed, I must say. She also suggested that, on some level, it's still there, that it can't be removed or erased by mundane methods.

Inside the Library, who should greet us but Mrs. Busybody Dobbs. Oh, you should have seen her fawning all over Iris while trying not to show any appreciation toward me for bringing her to town. It was very amusing.

As we walked around, Iris told me many things that she was "sensing." I think I shall allow her to report these impressions to all of you in her own words. I will only comment that all of this demonstrated to me that Iris is not a phony. She went into one of her trance states where the Wali Fard collection is kept and, feeling like I was filling in for James, I took hold of her shoulder to bring her back when she intoned, "Frightening... Power." There was the most subtle tingling in my hand when I took hold of her, like touching a live, low-voltage wire.

When we returned to the house, I led Iris to the store room where I have been keeping the trunk. And she insisted on being left alone with it. I'm sitting here in the shop feeling a bit miffed really. Oh my, the thumps and bumps have returned! The lights in the whole house are flickering.

More later,
Phyllis

Dear Sunny,
Well, I do feel vindicated; the spirits have acted out splendidly. It seems
Iris provoked them somehow while trying to "communicate" with the trunk. She sensed the little girl again but was overwhelmed by dreadful feelings of imprisonment. I suppose I never noticed that aspect because I'm used to being trapped in a way. Or did I only begin to feel trapped and yearn to break free when we moved here? There's something to ponder.

Iris, James and Chris all sat around while I told them what little I know about the history of the house. In particular Iris was intrigued by Sarah, isn't everyone? I told her what she looked like when I saw her and also recommended the photo on the Library's site; mentioned Todd and "Jon" who I had read about in the notes; the mysterious Ashram and Sarah's strange origins. They were eager to have a look-see at the deserted compound but I haven't a clue where it is. I felt fairly certain that Wes would know so we're going by his shop later today. Iris also wanted to know which room was Sarah's favorite and I really have no idea but suggested, logically, it might be the studio at the back of
the house.

While Iris and James wandered off through the house to gather
more "impressions," I asked Chris to act as my look-out in the entry hall in case Douglas should suddenly decide to pop in. This was my first opportunity to safely explore Douglas' office. On the credenza, when first arranging the room, I had placed a lovely burl wood box, very masculine and meant to hold cigars. But, inside I found a nest of paper scraps and envelopes marked with a distinctive letter "A." I took the risk of keeping just one of them from the bottom. I also discovered that every drawer and cabinet is locked! And what's more, the brass trash can was filled with ashes! He has been burning paperwork!!! I even tried that old detective novel trick of rubbing pencil lead on notepads to reveal impressions beneath but there was nothing. Now, I ask you, is this the kind of pains-taking paranoia one would expect from an innocent man?! I took great care to be sure I had displaced nothing and left the room as I had found it.

When I came back downstairs, Iris and James were telling Chris about "sensing" the name "Alec." I felt very uncomfortable about this coincidence. I didn't want to immediately tell these people that I had been spying on my own husband. So, I just said, "How strange! I've been searching about the house lately and found slips of paper marked with the letter 'A'. Could that be connected somehow?"

The conversation moved past me and Iris asked if she could spend some time alone in Sarah's studio and I led her back there. It's a very large room with lots of windows that I converted into a entertainment room. So, here I am, reporting to all of you and waiting to depart for the Emporium.

More Later,
Phyllis

Dear Sunny,
I took Iris and her crew over to the Emporium this afternoon. Of course, Wes wasn't there. But I introduced Patti to everyone and we left word for Wes to join our endeavor when he can. We parted company there with plans to resume tomorrow. It's been a very interesting day. Despite all, over and under everything that's been said and done, I have been thinking about what I read in Dale's diary and sorting out my feelings.

I do not doubt the existence of this Wish entity. Given everything that I've
experienced, I accept that idea completely. And, if this trickster can throw
away Diana and Meagan's lives with a wave of his hand, he can jolly-well bring them back! So if I'm connecting the dots properly, the primary goal of our quest is grabbing hold of this entity and forcing him to undo this horrible deed. But, we have competition: the DEG's, the Guides and even the Marzano's are trying to capture the Wish for their own ends. Have I thought this out properly? How exactly does Sarah fit into this?

I studied Latin at school and the manuscript page was titled, "Hunting the
Wish" which, of course, made no sense to me without context. Now that it does, I wonder which group Colin Penrose serves or if he represents yet another faction vying for the prize. He's in England and I can't help connecting him with the castle symbol and the word, "Avalon." I mean, could the graffiti be the symbol of the DEG's? Do the Guides have a symbol? The Marzano's? Does our little group have a symbol? This all so complex, maybe I shouldn't even try to figure it out and just let all of you tell me what I should do next to help our cause.

In the meantime, I shall report as accurately as possible my first-hand
experiences and observations.

Fondly,
Phyllis

Yes! Way to go Phyllis! I say if we catch the Wish we let Phyllis take a crack at it!

We should get Phyllis to translate the whole page for us if Wes gets it in his hot little hands

If it was "consecrated" for lack of a better term, than the magical energies used will have altered the localized sub-atomic particles in that direct area.

It's like if you write something on a piece of paper and press down hard. You can then use a pencil to show what you've written down on the underlying blank piece. Same principle really.

Which she was.. Often paranormal events seem to be somehow related to electromagnetic fields. Humans also have such a field, though it's fairly weak.. Definitely possible, that some folks have stronger fields, and are therefore more sensitive to any disruptions in the local energy flow.

Side note. The little girl seems to be some sort of psychic after-image of Sarah, when she first came to the Wyatt House most likely. Traumatic occurences will fill an item, sometimes larger geographical areas as well, with a kind of imprint that people can sense.. Battlefields are a good example of such occurences.

It's highly unusual though for such an after-image to be "Sentient" for lack of a better term.. Normally, it's just like a movie being replayed over and over again on an endless loop.

You might want to suggest to Phyllis to have Iris carefully approach the Todd issue with Wes, seeing how he's his son and all.. We need more information, and he's definitely not been sharing with us.

Interesting.. Alec could be the tie to Dale.. Possibly the professor who scared Dale so much, could he have been Sarah's old man and somehow involved with the Ashram??

Fairly good grasp on the situation. Though the Marzano's and DEGs should be considered to be similar forces, while the Guides are the opposite side of the coin..

Sarah seems to be some sort of Herald.. For who, we don't know yet.. Possibly the Wish.. Possibly something or someone else. Does look like she's trying to pin her job unto Meaghan though.

Penrose's position is still unknown.. He could belong to the Nine, unknowingly, whereas the Don belongs to the same group yet does know about it. Side note, jsut because they belong tot he same group, doesn't mean they're on the same side. We don't know what caused the Nine to fall apart.

Grafitti is indeed the DEG emblem.
Castle would be one of the symbols of the Guides, I suspect. Digitalis seems tied to it somehow. How or why is still unknown..

Marzano's have that Maltezer cross as an emblem.

We don't know what the family arms of Penrose is though..

As for what our symbol is.. Hmmm.. How about a blackened cube, with white question marks swirling around it. Wink The Detective Collective.. Resistance is Futile. We shall solve this case. Laughing

Some spec regarding Alec...

My guess is that Alec is either a spirit or a wish-like entity that Douglas summons, somehow, by burning the slips with the letter "A" on it. Phyllis assumed that Douglas was detroying evidence, but my guess she actually found the remants of a summoning spell.

Thoughts?

We just found another "A" - Absinthe the fortune teller.

This is starting t oremind me of Thomas Pynchon's "V."
Which is a good thing.
