EMAIL: Why Phyllis and Agatha are enemies

Dear Ursulla,
I hope you don't mind if I don't take the time to discuss our mutual attraction
to antiques. That is a discussion we shall save and savor on a calmer day in
the future. I would like to prepare a lovely luncheon for the EOS team and then
I plan to search the attic which I believe is the only place in the house that
wasn't completely cleaned out when we renovated. But, I wanted to answer your
points and questions because they may be important to our investigation.

You may well know that I would like nothing better than to drive these demons
from my house. But, as Iris has been discovering their natures I have come to
feel that we should get every bit of information and insight from them possible
before we send them off to wherever they should rightly be. They may help us
help Dale and I don't want to shut them out without understanding them first.
Also, these spirits are afraid and angry and some effort should be made to give
them peace, don't you think? The dark portal and the spirit within it is
another matter entirely. But, still, I wouldn't want to send it off to spread
its malice elsewhere upon some other hapless victim. We shall need some means
of sealing it off, I suppose.

Ah, Agatha and her grudge: Before Amelia and Hamilton lived in this house, it
was inhabited by generations of Dobbs. It is still called the "Old Dobbs'
House" by many of the locals. I dare say Agatha had dreams of reclaiming it.
When Douglas first took his position with the municipality here, we lived in a
ghastly rental some distance from town. We knew Sarah was not capable of
maintaining the property taxes on the house and I could see through its
disrepair to the grand home it had once been and could be again. Sarah always
left the doors unlocked and we surveyed the place one afternoon. Of course, we
called out from the entry but, she didn't reply. Assuming the place to be
vacant, we looked around and I became convinced this could be my dream home.
Imagine my surprise when I read her notes and realized that she had been there
that day and seen us. Anyway, when the foreclosure papers came across Douglas'
desk, we jumped on the opportunity and bought the house from under Agatha's
nose. From that day forward, she has spread malicious gossip about me. Now, she
may spin this story another way but, that's my explanation. If she had gotten
the house instead of me, I would probably hold a grudge against her, too.

About trust: I think that because some of you have opened up to me and made me
feel included not only in your group but in your lives, I can only be
completely honest and forthcoming in return. If there are others who do not
trust me or have ill-feelings towards me, I have not heard from them lately.
And, I cannot be concerned with them really. I am quite accustomed to being
disliked and learned a long time ago that I simply don't care about being liked
by everyone. Right now, for the sake of Dale and Diana and Meaghan, I believe
that sharing everything I learn with anyone who might be able to make sense out
of it is the most important task I can fulfill. If my feelings are hurt in the
process of redeeming this dreadful situation, it seems a small price to pay. I
hope I can reply on you to share all of this with everyone else.

Sincerely,
Phyllis
