How is it that Brewster has access to the the answers? Scores are obviously public, but being able to see who-guessed-what would require a certain clearance within the CRT would it not?
Unless Mind Candy fish out the most amusingly wrong answers and send them off to the Sentinel...

If that's true then I have never heard of such a disgraceful breach of doctor-patient confidentiality Confused

Hi. This is my first post here, but I've been playing a while. I hope it isn't trout worthy..

I was wondering if we could use the fact that the people of PXC can obviously read our wrong answers as a means of communication? For example, could we perhaps all enter something at the same time of day?

Regards,
MD1500.

Personally, I'm wondering if we might not be able to code a message for Kurt, Sente or the girls in a submission to the View from Earth. Assuming, of course, that we had anything terribly important to say.

I was actually wondering if there were anyway we can try and get Kurt on this new panel/council of Earlywine's? I'm guessing that people that high up may have more access to the link than the guys would at the moment. Of course the only problem would be getting him nominated and then we'd have to hope he gets elected! Not to mention the fact he probably doesn't want to be sitting that high up in the academy.

Probably clutching at straws, yet again.

The Brewster piece is pathetic. My 13-year-old cousin is playing this game and I can only imagine how she'd feel if one of her answers was pulled out to be mocked like that.

Way to go, Mind Candy.

I totatlly agree with you,

[personal opinion] since I have tons more respect for people who try to work out the answers themselves rather than spending squillions on all the cards then forum-trawling for answers and getting kudos in the Sentinel, I have never really understood that myself[/personal opinion].

But then not everyone is as noble and pure of heart as we...

I think you guys need to take in the context of the game, not OOG as you seem to. In game its a bit of anti earth spin and as such cannot be taken seriously as its merely propoganda. I'm thinking if you follow the online game, no matter the age, you would realise that.

And we've all made stupid guesses Very Happy I know I have out of frustration and desperation. I mean, seals! how stupid a guess was that?...

Oh, oh right.

DAMN YOU KATE HARRIS!

And when 'seals' went onto the board as a correct answer, it legitimised all the other stupid-sounding guesses that had to be tried, just in case.

So, while I respect your opinion on this, I utterly disagree with it. Ultimately, this is a game, played for fun and run for profit (and, to an extent, played for profit and run for fun, no doubt). And, irrespective of the in-game reasoning behind it, what happened here was that some clown at Mind Candy thought a great way to make money and have fun would be to take the piss out of named players.

Really wants me want to buy season two cards when they come out...

You guys are taking this way to seriously!!
It is only a game, a very good one I might add.
And the the players named in the Sentinal are all grown people, they can probably handle it Wink

Welcome, MD1500. First off, let me say: don't fear the trout. It's just this boards way of saying "Hey, we appreciate your enthusiasm, but we've already covered that." Think of it as a more playful thing, like a virtual hair ruffling.

That being said, what you came up with is ingenious. Right now, we have two official lines of communication open to us: Letters to the Editor, and Views from Earth. The problem with both of these is that they can be heavily censored and/or ignored.

However, if Kate Brewster is going to start on the jingoistic "Earthers are idiots" thread, let's use it as a third means of communication!

Not only do you have good taste in SciFi, we need to follow through on B5's response and create an alternative communication channel. Scarlett is friends with Iona Rodie, right? And she's one of their top reporters, right?

So, what if we were to somehow send a bunch of "garbage" messages, say for Billion To One that could be recombined to create a message for our allies on the other side? Brewster laughs at our "pathetic attempts," but Kurt, Violet and the rest of them know us. They know we are sneaky and underhanded (hey, we wrote a book for Violet, right?).

Once they have the message decoded, all they need to do is have Iona do an interview of someone (Scarlett? she IS the one who broke the story on Project 487). We then get the response back. Voila! Steganography ("hidden writing") via the Sentinel! It comes with a bonus feature of using Earlywine's propoganda organ against him.

Expanding off my previous post, I realized we needed to flag the attention of our allies before we go randomly entering codes. As such, I decided to design a "letter to the editor" method of getting the information to our friends. This would be a first draft to see what you all think.

Quote:
Ms. Brewster, you have apparently decided that open derision of those who would help you and your city regain its priceless artifact is a wise strategy. One might think this to be the idea of a simpering idiot, but as it came from you, Ms. Brewster, it must be sage thinking. Not content to just insult those of us from Earth as a group, you explicitly call out specific cube hunters for their mistakes. Your brilliance at angering those whose aid you need is astounding, genius even! I'm sure this is because you, Ms. Brewster, reign supreme in mental gymnastics.

Of course, when I see articles about the PCAG, the names I see are Ryan Cahill, Serena Duncan, Myra Champaign ... but no mention of you, Ms. Brewster. Those who can, do, and those that cannot, comment, eh Katie? It has been amazing in watching Ms. Champaign's meteoric rise. Having a teenager completely outstrip your abilities must really grind your gears, so you have to take your aggression out somewhere. It's okay, we understand, and we pity ... I mean, sympathize with your plight.

I'm sure the Perplex City cards feel like childish puzzles ... when you have enough Cognivia in your bloodstream to manage a passing intellect. However, we must all get by on what we were born with. I'm glad to see that Perplex City has institutions that help their, shall we say, lesser individuals.

Still, here's your chance to prove me wrong, Katie. A simple little code, which such an "advanced" citizen of Perplex City should be able to break in no time. I won't even complain if you ask that flatulent toad, Samara Jones, to help. Combined, you have two neurons to rub together, and hey, you might get lucky. To quote an old Earth aphorism: "Even the sun shines on a dog's ass some days."

Oh, dear. I hope you didn't read too much into that. With plenty of makeup and the help of a miracle worker quality beautician, you each might be able to resemble a dog's ass one day. Keep striving for that goal! We all need to reach for the stars ... or, I guess in your case, to at least pull ourselves out of the sewers.

Okay, I realize this is over-the-top (heck, the missus even said as much and she doesn't even play!). The whole point is it is SUPPOSED to be. They have this stereotype of us, and nothing we can do right now can fix that ... but let's use that stereotype to our advantage to get a hold of our allies.

The one thing we do have in our favor are the blogs. Let's use that information to get a short message out to our allies so that they know what we are planning.

Enygma - I like the approach, and think its a good idea to open lines of communication in as many ways as possible. And I think your 'hard hitting' response is quite good.

However, just a couple of comments for general consideration.

If you are writing a "letter to the editor" then surely it shoudl address the editor in relation to Ms Brewster, as opposed to Ms Brewster herself. Just a minor change really.

Also, I think that the scathing tone is quite good. However I feel it reinforces the stereotype of us in a negative way. It uses cheap insults where if they want to view us a confrontational so be it, but lets not stregnthen their beliefs that we on Earth are common, basic and crass. More subtle wording of your insults could make her look more stupid.

One might think this idea to be the fruit of idiocy, but as it came from Ms. Brewster, I can only conclude that it must be sage thinking. Not content to just insult those of us from Earth as a group, she explicitly calls out specific cube hunters for their mistakes. Her brilliance at angering those whose aid you is astounding, genius even!

I'm sure the Perplex City cards feel like childish puzzles ... in a society able to suplement its base intellect with increasingly developed Cognivia products. Here on Earth however, we must all get by on what we were born with. I'm glad to see that Perplex City has institutions that help their lesser individuals, maybe we can all hope to learn and develop through your outstanding examples of society.

Still, here's your chance to prove me wrong, Katie. A simple little code, which an advanced citizen of Perplex City should be able to break in no time. I did try to make it tricky though, so feel free to ask for a hint if you need it.

I agree with the idea but think that Moomin has some good points and much prefer that version.

Moomin - just one constructive comment, the last two sentences of the second paragraph don't quite read correctly to me, they appear to be aimed at the editor rather than Ms Brewster in the new version. Unfortunately being a mathematician and not a writer I can't improve on them!
