[KYLE] Kyle XY Trailhead

I couldn't find any posts about this yet... BUT... I think I just discovered that the new show "Kyle XY" is part of an Alternate Reality Game.

On the show today, they had a radio playing in the background as the main character tried to sleep. (He's some sorta weird alien/whatever that never sleeps.) So, on the radio, they mentioned this website in a cryptic radio commercial:

http://madacorp.com/

And this website looks like classic, almost stereotypical ARG.

If you guys already know about this, then sorry for the repeat post... Smile I did a search of the forums and couldn't find anything. But if this IS a new ARG... then that would be very cool, and I'd like to hear what the rest of you find. Let me know how it goes...

Kyle XY getting freakier

Dude... this is definitely an ARG.

During the commercial break, they just had a phony commercial for this MADA Corp. I explored the MADA Corp website some more, and I found a "secret" blog.

The first time I loaded this page, an IM window popped up on the side bar. It was from the informant... the person who wrote the blog. It said something similar to what the blog says... "I don't know if I can trust you, but I have to... oh no, they're coming... watch for the signs (?)..." etc. I started trying to type a response, but by that point, the informant had disappeared. I tried reloading the page, but I think the informant only speaks once, and I may have been the only one to hear him (or her? Smile.

I'm going to keep digging... let me know if you find anything...

NEW: The Kyle/MADA plot thickens

Good to hear that I'm not the only one on the trail. Smile Here's the latest I've figured out...

We've already got at least one or two puzzles going on herehere.

The IM message on the secret MADA blog.

This appeared the first time that I loaded the blog. Then, it wouldn't appear for me anymore -- until I went to a new computer. So, you should be able to view it once, but probably only once, on your own computer.

The informant's screen name is GuessWho1962. This makes me wonder if maybe s/he was born in 1962. Of course, that'd be tipping their hand to whoever's pursuing them -- but if they're already locked out of the system anyway, they may not be too worried about that.

Then, there's the message itself. "...is that you?" seems to imply that there's someone out there who the informant is seeking to leak the info to. "meet me here again soon when all is clear" seems to imply that this website will be updated soon -- either before the next episode, or maybe during/after it. And "watch the signs"... there's probably something clue-related about that, whether it means looking out for curious symbols/clues or literal "signs" (street signs, etc.).

The blog entries.

The first blog entry is on June 26, corresponding to the first episode of Kyle XY. So, in theory, they probably made it possible to find this site after the first episode. Either nobody found it, or I couldn't find the posts of whoever found it. The second blog entry is today, so that makes me think that there will be one each week or so, at least until our poor informant friend is discovered. Either way, it's pretty interesting content. A few things jump out at me:

*** ENTRY 1: "I have to get into the server but they've locked me out." I'll bet we'll eventually find a way to the server and try to crack the code to get into it.

*** ENTRY 2: "Rutilus Es Does Dominion Ever Solemn Now Tethered ALWAYS Man Endless After Now See Truth Out Prometheus." This is definitely some sort of word puzzle. Look at the first letters of each word. They spell out: RED DESNT ALWAYS MEAN STOP. This is mentioned later in the entry too. But what does it mean?

*** ENTRY 2: Document. This appears to be a document related to Kyle's discovery. But the fact that portions are blacked out leads me to believe that the document is part of the cover up of whatever it is that MADA Corp is up to.

*** ENTRY 2: Tragers. Maybe Kyle is only one of multiple beings like himself called the Tragers. This is just speculation, but it would fit with the informant's description of them as kind, naive, etc. There's also the fact that Kyle just solved a jigsaw puzzle in this episode, which is kinda an allusion to the fact that the Tragers don't know what the puzzle is yet. But maybe Kyle is stumbling into it because he's out in the world?

*** ENTRY 2: "Remember that one line joins another to reveal an image but not the whole picture." I can't remember her name, but the woman helping Kyle mentioned that one of his drawings had an unusual and seemingly extraneous line on it. Maybe if we can get a good look at Kyle's drawing(s), we'll see an extra clue related to this line. Kyle is also watching the skies intuitively, so that seems to tie in with the idea of watching the skies, but not being fooled. Maybe it's going to appear that Kyle is an alien through some sort of evidence... "watch the skies"... but in fact he is related to some sort of MADA research and the alien theme is a red herring... "Don't be fooled?" Pure speculation, but hey...

*** ENTRY 2: "Wol parn nen" is probably a word puzzle too. No luck figuring that out yet... anagram, maybe? I don't think it's an actual name or a non-English language, but I only know anything in-depth about 2-3 languages...

Anyway, that's all I have for now. Let me know if you discover any more clues, and I'll do the same. We must help Kyle and this mysterious informant friend of his... Smile[/b]

That's funny. A few weeks ago I was driving home (I live in the LA area) and saw an airplane skywriting "Who is Kyle XY?" I thought that would be the coolest ARG rabbithole EVER, so I ran home and did some research and found out it was just an ad for the show. So I'm happy to see that there is a game - it just seemed like that kind of show.

Unfortunately, I don't have cable so I won't be able to watch the show. But I'll see what I can do online.

A few more notes

Okay... here are a few more notes about my exploration of the website... Smile I've never followed a trail like this before, so I'm having fun...

(1) The Secret Blog.

I forgot to mention that the secret blog is found under the Our Jobs section. Here's a bit more about the content of the secret blog:

*** Rutilus Es. Rutilus is apparently a species of freshwater fish. See Wikipedia. Maybe this is why our friend Kyle likes the water?
*** Prometheus. There are some obvious possibilities around this one. Prometheus is often used in stories relating to new technologies, from Frankenstein to a dozen sci-fi stories. Maybe MADA Corp is developing some sort of new godlike technologies, and our informant is trying to bring them to the masses, just like Prometheus brought fire to man.

(2) The Main Page.

Going back to the main page, I notice all sorts of fun login and "Find Employee" features.

*** Random names generate a "NO EMPLOYEE FOUND" message.
*** Kyle generates a "CLASSIFIED" message. So does "Detective Breen" (investigating officer in Kyle's case).

Also, there's the little voice intro:

"Technology, science, art. Only one company integrates all three for the betterment of mankind. The MADA Corporation. Groundbreaking research for tomorrow's solutions. MADA Corp. Visit the future today. On the web at madacorp.com"

Then, there's the logo, which looks like a maze or modified labyrinth.

There's also the fact the the corp was apparently established in 1971.

All of these probably have relevance, but it may take a while (and maybe future episodes) to piece it all together.

In the meantime, have fun playing around with the forms on the page. You can click on the map to see several projects MADA Corp is working on "for the betterment of mankind." My guess is that they're some sort of insane hi-tech and/or genetic engineering company. They're probably doing something very strange, and either they truly believe that it's for the betterment of mankind, or they use that as a front for intentionally nefarious activities.

The Tragers are the family that Kyle is currently living with.

Also, on the main Kyle XY ABC Family web site http://abcfamily.go.com/kylexy/ there is a game and a small mini flash site that has some stuff to play around with. I'll let you do that for yourself though.

My personal theory on where Kyle is from is that he was "grown" by Mada Corp in some sort of vat (hence no belly button) most likely to be used as some sort of war machine/ Super Soldier and didn't quite workout like they intended, so they dumped him out in the middle of the forest. They also had a female counterpart. In the first episode there was a news report of a simmilar situation occuring except it was a female. This would also explain the name of the show being "Kyle XY" can't have a XY without an XX as well.

In the source for the about page that list some names that you can put in the locater. Haven't checked them all yet but I'm guessing they all turn up classified.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"john smith","nicole trager","kyle xy","kyle","josh trager","lori trager","stephen trager", "detective breen", "tom foss", "amanda bloom ", "declan tanner", "rebecca thatcher", "david peterson", "julia peterson", "adam baylin", "william kern", "cyrus reynolds", "jacob cassidy"

Never seen some of those names.

Edit= Yep they all turn up classified.

Well, the first thing I think when I see a document with big black marks on it is, of course, "What does the redacted part say?!?!?"

In the case of the doc on the secret blog, the answer is easily found and disappointing.

I brightened the image a bit and could see letters behind the black lines. Unfortunately, what is say is, "XXXXXXXXXXXXX."

Attached a piece of the image so you can see for yourself.

Kyle and Clues

Oh yeah... sorry Smile

Yeah, that's my theory too. Since the company supposedly promotes "Technology, Science, and Art"... I'm guessing that either (A) Kyle is part of a program that was genuinely meant to do cool things [by at least some scientists] and ended up being hijacked by nefarious forces, or (B) the "betterment of humanity" bit is all just a front for an insidious supersoldier type plan. I noticed that the one actor is actually the conspiracy-type guy (Kryczeck?) from X-FIles, so it's interesting to see him in another conspiratorial role. (He apparently got his hand back... hah!)

I've got to get going, but here are a few good leads for further clues. We might not be able to learn much more until the next episode, but since they've already given us a trail to follow, it might lead us somewhere...

(1) Search the Internet for all of the names mentioned above that show up as Classified in the MADA Corp database. These are basically names of current and possibly future characters.

(2) I'm starting to find other sites that are just now starting to talk about all of this too. I can skim some of these and see what clues they may have uncovered too. In the meantime, I'm off to other things...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the source code (at the bottom) there is a link that is supposed to go to http://www.google.com. With that information at hand, I decided to do a google search for "red doesn't always mean stop" and the first thing that pops up is a book relating to "Trackside Railroad Signals".

I did some more searching on the subject and found this...

Quote:
Although red usually means "Stop," and a lot of the signal indications given include a red light, someone once said, "If it's not all red, it's not red at all." What does that mean to you? It means unless every head on a multi-headed signal is red (thereby meaning "Stop"), then it's not a "Stop" signal at all but something less than "Stop."

I am not sure what the connection to all of this is, but I'm sure that it means something.

btw, if you click just above that little line at the bottom of the page the whole conversation pops up again. Smile

EDIT: About our little "GuessWho1962"... I found this.

Quote:
The Guess Who started out as a local Winnipeg band in 1962 called Chad Allan and the Reflections (later changed to Chad Allan and the Expressions). Each of the members of the band were born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Burton Cummings replaced Chad Allan as singer and keyboarder, and leader of the band in 1965. The band signed with Quality Records, and had first hit with "Shakin' All Over", which reached #1 in Canada and #22 in the U.S. Strangely the name The Guess Who came when on the album for the record "Shakin' All Over", when radio stations refused to play their music because they were Canadian. The record company then pulled a stunt, putting a plain white cover with the words "Guess Who?" on it, trying to capitalize on curiosity. The plan worked and the album sold over 2 million copies, and after that the group got its name, The Guess Who. As the group's lineup changed, so did their sound. 1969's "These Eyes" was the group's first Top Ten hit under new group leader Burton Cummings and their new label RCA Records. By the beginning of the 1970s, the group moved towards an edgier hard-rock sound with the album American Woman, whose title track, "American Woman" was their only #1 hit in the U.S., and the Top Ten hit "No Time".

So maybe his name is Chad Allan?
