Of course the names *might* not mean anything.

[SPEC/TRIVIA](thanks Phaedra): Names/connections to music

(Please help expand my ARG lexicon - would something like this post qualify for a label such as "SPEC" or...?)

I've noticed some definite ties to musical artists in the various character names. May or may not be significant, but the PM does seem to have a strong interest in music!

Bartender is "Major Tom"
-- David Bowie's 'Space Oddity'
-- Peter Schilling's 'Major Tom'
(these songs are related to each other - Schilling based his song on Bowie's lyrics)
--which loosely link us to Clarke's novel and Kubrick's film 2001: Space Odyssey.

References to Lenny Kravitz:
--Ms. Kravits
--Lenny van Housel (although I have no idea what "van Housel" has to do with it)

Rolling Stones:
--"Mick" was a roady for the Stones - that's about as direct a connection as you get, plus the name. Rolling Eyes

I'm not enough of a music historian/enthusiast to know if these artists have anything in common with one another. The most obvious connections I see are the BBB song that references "Area 51"; Bill Brazel (Roswell); and the David Bowie/'Space Oddity' link through 'Major Tom'.

If there are no aliens in TH, I might cry.

This would indeed be SPEC. Smile

A couple of new pages

I haven't yet seen a link to the cafepress-store for BBB:
http://www.cafepress.com/billbrazelband

And have anybody else found the "secure login"-page at Developmentis?
http://www.developmentis.com/secure/

It's pretty easy to get to - just look at the html for the 404-page at the site, and notice that the pictures are placed in the folder "/secure/secimages".

[edit - great finds, however, we can save the 'spoiler' tags for puzzle solves - kona]

Welcome to uF! Virtuquest usually has a good mix of elements that make a well rounded ARG, should be a fun experience. Very Happy

Thanks for the welcome!

I got my call from "no number" this morning whilst getting ready for work. First he (didn't give a name) asked for me (my real name - oooh, shiver), then asked if I knew about TH. I said yes, and he said some of the stuff others have reported (things have changed since Dev. took over, it's not safe, my name's on a list, I need to stay away & tell others). He also said that people have gone missing, and some never come back. He also said he had "access" to the mayor's office, or something to that effect (yeah, I know, but it was early Razz - shoulda written it down afterwards), not just that he used to work there. I think it was "access", not "connections." Then he said, "Do you understand?" I said yes, and the line went dead. Wonder what would've happened if I'd said no?

The sound wasn't great, but it was okay. I didn't hear a bang at the end. It sounded like he was taking a deep breath before he spoke each sentence, or maybe huffed his breath out.

I wonder how many different versions of this call there are, and for that matter just how many people are playing. I think I'm gonna like this limited-spaces thing. Smile

So, do we know who "never came back"? Also, something on the TH blog post has been bugging me. It hinted at a connection between Major Tom and the "new local news anchor," whoever that is.

We don't know yet who has disappeared. We should get some more clues this weekend.

The connection between the Establishment Lounge and some big news is definitely there in the blog entry - note the ""s around "major" and the emphasis on "establishment". The "news" will maybe have something to do with the BBB...?

[SPEC/TRIVIA] Fire In The Sky

I just can't stay away.

In the "News" section of TH, talking about Township Days, the fireworks finale is named "Fire in the Sky, yet another reference to UFOs, extra-terrestrials, and the like, both from the movie title and the Travis Walton story of alien abduction.

I guess the finale is going to be something to look forward to.

Wow, that reminds me! He asked for me by my real name too even though I used my online persona when I signed up. Guess they got it from PayPal.

I imagine they got it from our credit cards/paypal info - maybe that's one of the reasons for charging the $5 - to have a means of collecting publicly-available info on the players for use in the game - like using our real names in the phone calls.
