Looking before I leap. where to go
New player seeks advice

Hi all,
I finally have some free time again and want to get back into ARGing. I've roleplayed and done fan fic in several different forms for years but i'm still relatively new to arging. My first introduction was playing the lost experience this summer which I followed with a breif stint at Occular Effect. Ultimately the many commitments of RL, particularly my graduate study in adult education and communication technology with a view toward becoming an instructional designer or corporate trainer. I am intrigued by ARGing and the career potentential that creating this type of entertainment may same day offer me as i have always looked for ways to combine my passions for reading, writing theater and gaming with my career path

At present I'm looking for an ARG to get invoved in over Christmas break. One that isn't too far along and/or has a good summary so that I can catch up on things. Seeing as money is tight pay to play is unfortunately not an option. Any thoughts or suggestions on where to dive in? Michelle

Hey Michelle! Welcome back. Smile

Unfortunately, you've hit sort of a dry spell, both for large corporate games and for grassroots games, large or small.

  • Studio Cypher has a pay-to-play component, but you can also play for free. (I believe the paying players get updates first, but I'm not sure if that holds true in the current game.) The team behind it did the very popular Ares Station game, so what they put out is probably reliably good quality.
  • Deus City is a production done by some university students, and is still apparently in the "pre-game" stage, so presumably you wouldn't be missing much by joining now.
  • Edoc Laundry just began its second season and is fairly slow-moving.
  • NeoVenus Construction appears to be a promotion for Lost Planet and I believe it's still in the early stages (ARGN article here).
  • There are two games also in the Potentials forum, Lawn Games for Life and EnochOfGatewood, but I believe they've both been running for a while, so they could be nearing an end any time.
  • UMedia just started and seems to be getting a lot of positive buzz from people in the community.

Otherwise, watch the News & Rumors section, because a new game could be starting up any day! Smile
