Email Phyllis new dream and Invitation from Agatha

Dear Sunny,
I awoke with the birds at first light this morning with a clear memory of a
very lucid dream: My perspective is swirling around a room and then focuses on Hamilton sitting at a battered desk. It's the same room Douglas uses for his home office but there are no bookshelves full of law books, no credenza. The little girl is there skipping around the desk, singing little tunes to herself, being ignored. She skips and hops behind the open door of a closet behind the desk. There's a sharp sound and she hops out again, looking shamefaced. "Daddy Hamilton," she says, "I sorry, I broke it." He takes a moment to respond, looking around at her. She is standing just outside the closet, pointing down, and says, "Look, I broke the floor." He shakes his head and pats her shoulder, saying, "Don't worry. You didn't break nothing, baby." He pulls her onto his lap affectionately, "That's my special spot. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone. It's our little secret." Then, he lifts her onto her feet and shoos her away, "Now go
play somewhere else, darling."

I was so excited, I couldn't wait to tell Iris. But, I was rushing to get
dressed, then looked into the guest room and couldn't be certain that Douglas had even come home last night. Iris and crew showed up early and in the midst of our disappointment with the still blank walls in the studio, I entirely forgot it.

The crew got to work setting up sound recording and photographic equipment in the shop and Iris went off to do more detailed "psychic examinations" in other rooms. I was a bit overcome by the number of people who suddenly decided they were interested in browsing antiques and had to gesture toward the "Closed" sign in the door to convince them to stop knocking on the window panes and go away, please.

Then, I got a call from Agatha Dobbs and nearly dropped the phone from
surprise. She and the Mayor are hosting a Bar-B-Q this afternoon and wanted to be sure Iris, Chris, and James were coming. Naturally Douglas and myself are also invited. I was very gracious and pleasant about accepting. I imagine they are trying to distract the town's folk from the Grand Jury investigation.

It was nearly ten before I had the opportunity to do some more snooping in Douglas' office. He had left a few notes on his desktop that really didn't say much that made any sense. It seems as though some of them were in his handwriting while others were in a different script. I compared two samples and noted they were done in the same pen. I am certain no one else had been in his office and then I got a tingle up my spine – the unknown handwriting matches the style on the slip with the partial word, "Alec"! Oh my! I had a moment, a kind of déjà vu sensation, and pivoted around and looked at the closet door. The dream was just on the edge of memory but, just then, James called up the stairs, "Phyllis! You need to come down here, please!"

I put the notes back where I picked them up from the desk and hurried down to
find Iris sitting in the middle of the entry hall, looking a bit shaken. She
asked me to tell her about how Douglas and I had come to buy the house, how many times had we been here, had we ever talked to Sarah, the same kinds of questions I've gotten from you and others. So, I explained it all in much the same words I've used before and then she asked, "Was your husband ever here with anyone else? Looking at it and talking about this house?"

"Not to my knowledge," I replied and she told me the vision she had just had. I will let her recount the experience and only say I was flabbergasted! Douglas meekly bowing to some dark, powerful figure and calling him, "My Lord" and this person calling Douglas, Alec-something! It just scrambled my brain, I tell you.

It wasn't until I sat down to send you this update that the dream came back to me again and now Iris et al have already gone and I must run over to the outlet mall and then meet them at the cook-out. Oh dear, Sunny, help me remember this dream! Help me remember to tell Iris! This is important, isn't it?

I still don't know where Douglas is. I need to leave him a note about joining me at the Dobbs' gathering. I just don't know how I'm going to be "normal" around him. I never knew him! I never knew him at all!

I'll write you when I get back.

Love, Phyllis

Sounds to me like there is a secret hiding place in the floor of the closet in Douglas's office. Has anyone suggested to her she check it out? Could be something very interesting in there.
