The mythical beast might be a Phoenix - my first thought was a Griffin too *my high school mascot

Yeah it could be a Griffon, but I cant see a tail anywhere.

Like I said it appears to be coming out of flames (Phoenix), but then again it could be tree branches or something...

the bottom pics *to me* look like a plate of plantains, a pea & an ark

Possibly plantation park?

I also think the purple is a chicken or hen

The larger bird looks like an eagle from a noble coat of arms (the funny plant signifies noble)

a can & a toes?

Possibly Chicano

still haven't figured it all out, but so far seems along the lines of Eagle (something) Chicano plantation park

just thinking out loud

Looks like we need pictures of the information kiosks at Mesquite Mine on the CA-78 road.

Different information sheets are needed to be photographed for each family, but I doubt each family will have someone in cali who can go. Probably best to find someone who can, and take pictures of everything, then we will send in our relevant pictures to Taylor.

Holy cow... Glamis? That's out past El Centro, almost to the AZ border. Even if I could convince the spouse to make a serious day trip out there, the very earliest I could get out there is this coming Saturday, as I am currently in Norfolk on business.

Noone else in CA that can make this trip?

I sent Taylor a couple of "dog" park names in Phoenix and got the standard, "nope - keep trying!" reply.

There is/was a "Canto Park" in Phoenix.
All I can find on it is it was blessed by the Unification Church as "Holy ground" in 1965.
Also. There's a band and/or club by that name in Phoenix

No idea how the hen or other bird factors into that.
But I think the plate is secondary to "Pea" as in the one pea was from a whole bowl.

ETA: I've got some communique out to geocachers in the area and the mining company to see if there is some other way to acquire the sheet images. So far it's a no-go from any of those inquiries where I've gotten a reply. If the sheets turn out to be BLM documents, I'll check with them as well, though they sound like PR material for the mining operation.

The bird in the corner is devenitively a phoenix. The can in the middle is dog food. Brand purina, you can still see the logo. Then ballet, then ark and then the green thing that may be a pea or an apple.

But the purple thing to the left of the can is confusing me. What the hell is that?

The purple thing is a bird of some kind, possibly small like a finch, or big like a chicken.

The can is indeed purina (I thought that the first time because of the red square pattern but everyone said tuna). However saying its dog food to me doesnt seem right...To ME its more likely to be cat food, the tin is so small (yeah it could be for small dogs of course), the whole story is about Bast (and cats), it looks like a tin of their gourmet cat food personally.

I think the thing in the left is a Phoenix as well, but the explanation of it being an Eagle sounds good too.

Yeah, and you know what? I'm still feeling completely left out of the loop because I have absolutely NO idea what you guys are talking about with the Burden to Bring challenge pieces.

Is it because I'm not emailing in my answers that I'm not getting stuff? Is it because I'm not in some super secret part of the LGFL board where I can see this stuff? I really want to know because I am playing this game despite the fact that I'm obviously a couple steps behind everyone else.

It's bad enough to read through this thread and to see comments like 'Oh, that puzzle has been solved' with no additional information. Who solved it? How was it solved? Should I still be working on it for my family or should I not even bother?

I can't even begin to express my fustration right now in trying to get caught up with this game. I feel sorry for any newcomers trying to get into this game because, unless you have a decent grasp for puzzle concepts, you're pretty much screwed unless you feel comfortable enough to beg for answers.

And because I don't want anyone else to feel as completely lost as I have been, I've created a guide to walk newcomers through the game so far. All of the puzzles are there, with explicit instructions on how to solve them. All of the Challenge Pieces are there (both as jpgs and with links/passwords). And as soon as I figure out what the Burden stuff is, that'll go up to. Obviously I'm going to have to go through and get Taylor to verify all my answers (since you know, most aren't posted on here anywhere), and despite my absolute hatred of emailing characters, I'll do it. And I'll continue to share any answers that I come up with on here - but only after I make sure that the team in last place gets any points I might earn.

So, if any of you would like to help out (either me personally or any newcomers to the game), then please post your solutions on the board, or send me a message to let me know if I have something wrong.

Wtf??

Why have you made a site which just TELLS everyone the answers? Surely they should only get hints. I guess it doesnt matter too much but I can't see where you're coming from, you seem to be annoyed about a problem you've made up yourself.

The whole point of the game is to, with your family, solve the trials first, send them off to Taylor (if you dont like e-mailing characters then maybe this game isnt for you??) and try and get the points first.

Then after that, simply because we are nice (we dont have to do this at all) we talk about the trials with others, give hints if we've solved them and sometimes even discuss all together a new trial (and not just keep it within our own family groups).

If you read the website you can find out what where-when and burden-bring pieces are...its no secret, theres no hidden forum anywhere.

If you actually LOOK through this thread, you'll find where-when and burden-bring pieces have even been posted, but the fact of the matter is the family member who gives in the answer is the person that should receive the links to the pieces, and then share them around to their family members. Seeing as we all get EXACTLY the same pieces, theres not really much need for secrecy, at least not until the last few trials where having a piece before the other families might help in getting to the meeting spot in Florida first.

Still, the trials should all be solved yourselves, rather than just being GIVEN the answers...wheres the fun in that? I'd hate it if everyone just told me the answers...now giving hints and helping families catch up, yeah thats great, thats what playing together is all about. Cool

I like your website...but just giving answers, rather than the means for the player to find it out themselves, and therefore enjoy working a trial out, to me is wrong...No ones "sitting" on information and not sharing it, the fact of the matter is nearly everything is in this thread already. Currently I believe every family is now caught up, we all have all the same information, we always share, and if you actually took the time to go through the thread you'd see that...you'd also see us asking if anyone needed any help with anything to help them get caught up. You seem to think we are all against each other, when really all we want is to try and get the answer in first, and then offer help to the rest.

Now I'm not having a go at you, so forgive me if the tone of what I've gone through sounds that way, but I think everything I've said is valid. Smile

Walkthroughs have a long and honorable history in many types of gaming, and Rowan creates some of the best I've seen. If you don't like it, you don't need to visit it. But I'm certain that as usual, most people will greatly appreciate the resource and the time and effort she put into making it.

I thought I said I did like it? Smile

The only thing I didn't like is just giving the answers, but if people like that that's fine with me, and I just won't visit it if theres an answer to a trial on there I havn't solved yet, in case I read it Cool

Why should people just get hints? Not everyone likes solving puzzles. I know that puzzle solving certainly isn't the highest thing on my list of things to do in an ARG. Right now, I'm more interested in the meta concept of the game than I am in solving puzzles, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are others out there who would be interested in it as well, but can't get beyond solving the puzzles.

I disagree. The point of the game is to claim the Fountain of Truth by working together as [one big] family. The points are only there to reward the "best" family with something extra at the end.

I've read the website. And I have no idea what the difference is between the what-where-when and the burden pieces are. The first I saw of them was this post where Rogi says he's keeping them close to the vest. Doing a search on the LGFL fourm gets me no other information. I'd be more than happy to take a specific link to what information I'm so clearly missing in my blindness if anyone wants to give it.

No one is just GIVING you the answers. The answers are just there if someone wants them. Not everyone is a puzzle fiend and wants to solve puzzles that someone else has already done. No one should have to beg for solutions in an ARG simply because a hint doesn't 'click' with them.

----

Anyway, I (well #uf and mostly strifey) have solved the Bast Trial. Behind the spoiler is the explicit answer, not a hint, so don't look if you dont want to know.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The answer is Encanto Park, Phoenix Arizona.

The solve is: Phoenix
(wr)en hen + can + toe = Encanto
p(ea) + ark = Park

There is an amusement park there called Enchanted Island which may be where we have to go next.

Edit: bags came up with 'hen' that makes more sense to me, so I changed it.

Because some of us aren't really playing but we like to read about the game and follow (i.e. lurkers). It's a time honored tradition in uF that we share this information (and it's archived for those in the future to come back and relive the experience).

That is why uF is OOG. We can openly share that information here. Post the puzzle. Then, if you solve it, post the method and the solve (with the spoiler tag). Those who want to challenge themselves work thru the puzzle, those who are don't, click on the spoiler and go "ah".

This is a community who collectively discusses and shares information. That's what makes uF folks so great - we're almost like a family in here.

Thanks Rowan! I'll be taking a looksee (as one of this games lurkers).
