Jorge Ravelo trial

Hint: don't read too much into the flavor text, because it is utterly misleading

Solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

1. Check out folders in Jorge directory.
2. Visit http://newadvent.org/library/ and look at the pdf
3. Figure out where each bead is on the rosary.
4. Map each letter, and then translate from braille
5. Get the answer Carlos

FYI:
The different families are now getting different Burden to Bring pieces.

EDIT: If it's like my other discoveries around the challenge pieces, though, I'm probably the only one who didn't know that.

EDIT 2: I'm pretty sure Lore Trial 6 has something to do with decoding the batting averages for players on the '82 Cardinals roster, but I'm not a big baseball fan, so somebody who is can go for it.

Taylor messaged me saying this:

Quote:
Hi Xtra!

Could you help clarify things with some of our family peeps??

bonus points are not per answer submission. rather, they are for submitting documentation of the "extra credit" possibilities. Kind of like how you could get 5 extra points on the spelling homework in gradeschool for writing a book report on war and peace.

I'll try to pin down something in Aunt Anna's records to clarify publically ...

In the meantime,
- location trials work the same.
- Everyone should share answers (and the challenge pieces that they unlock)
- If you show up first, cool you get a few more points
- While you're there, maybe do some activities that Anna did (like hike the Peralta trail) - if you do that you're RAD. take a photo, display your Souza/Garcia etc family crest, send the proof. you get a few extra points
- Hey, you're SO RAD in fact that you decide to snap some photos of your hike on behalf of your cousins (even freemonts have a little souza in them somewhere, right?). bam! they get points too (cuz your family can only get bonus points for the hike once. unless ANOTHER family goes there too and documents it with an obviously different photo or doing an obviously different activity)
- really, the "unlimited" is meant to let y'all be creative. Aunt Anna signed in in the log book, i'll document a Garcia signing in and earn a few points.
- Later, because you were so rad and helped the Williams/Freemonts display family pride, they help you display Souza pride/Garcia etc somewhere else.
- maybe
- it might not work
- the thing is that I think points are about to become an economy of some sort and this is the beginning of that attitude.

- it's meant to reward people who go to the place with the ability to reward other families - or their own - for the labor. Some family members are playing across families and offer up their points to the underdog by default.

I really doubt that folks are going to do the extra credit things - They'll need to include family crests in the documentaiton. I'll see if we can make it more fair or maybe I'll just get rid of it....

Let me know if you have thoughts!

And I got this from Taylor when I questioned whether points matter:
Quote:
Hi cousin Rogi! Points *do* matter - they'll especially matter for folks who can't go to any of the locations.

So some families get extra points for having more members, others get points opportunities via additional puzzles in their "Brings". The mixed messages aren't helping.

I'm starting to get that "why bother" feeling as the bait(game) and switch(story) kicks in. I know an ARG needs a story, but the ones that are a history lesson or rehashing of Gnostic/Pagan/mystic themes get boring fast.

The idea of establishing the families genealogy still seems like an interesting concept, so maybe that'll keep me going a while longer.

Well does it matter much if you dont win? I mean not playing because you think you're not going to win is a bit silly imo...its the taking part that counts! lol

Not playing because you've gotten bored is fair enough though. I'm pretty sure Garcia's wont win either, Souza's have hired loads of new members and puzzle solvers by the looks of things, so I can see them winning Razz But as long as I still get some fun out of the game I'll play it.

I mean even if theres some sort of prize worth getting at the end, I'm not going to get it am I? Seeing as I live in England...even if I did most of the puzzle solves for my family, I'm not going to get a "prize" out of it because no ones going to exactly send it to me lol, but I'll play anyway.

I think thats the way you should look at it, and I think we should just forget about the points stuff. If you are still quite enjoying it, then I think you should carry on! Smile

I'm just saying that it was presented as a game and that I joined under those terms. Games by their definition do have winners and losers. I don't mind losing if I don't play as well as someone else playing the game. But with the attempts to even out the scores at any opportunity, it's becoming less game and more story. And frankly, not a lot of ARG stories are that interesting to me. Sometimes the story has promise, but it's not executed well with the same end result. Waning interest.

Any of us who aren't able to be in St. Augustine on the 22nd are in the same boat. I'm about as far away from there as you are, so I wasn't really expecting anything along those lines either.

Well I'm approximately 7,000 KM from there Razz But yeah I know what you're saying, anyone whos quite far away cant get there...but like I said I'm not playing it for anything other than a bit of fun, if I cared whether I lose or not for an internet website based game I'd worry about myself Razz

So do you think you might stop playing? Hopefully not Smile Theres already not that many playing Sad

Maybe you shouldnt share the answers anymore? Cool

See, this is where we disagree. I feel that the story is the strongest part of the game so far. The competitive nature is ambigous at best and the puzzles are sadly lacking in quality control. But then again, I've always been a backstory kinda of girl, so it's second nature that I would like the history Aunt Anna is presenting.

The Souzas have just been asking for help from the puzzle community at large. As the playerbase for the entire game is way too small, I've been getting #uf to help out with the puzzle solving (especially as my puzzle solving skills are on shallow end of the pool). Cooperative puzzle solving > competitive puzzle solving (especially with limited resources).

It's probably just me, but I feel that cooperative puzzle solving requires much more of the story in order to engage the player base effectively. There has to be a reason for them to want to solve the puzzles. An antogonist to thwart, a life to save, an answer to a truly yearning question, something more than securing the release of additional story information. Maybe if the subject matter were time travel with a twist I haven't seen a dozen times in books or movies or something similarly interesting, I could keep at it longer.

You generally endure the puzzles. I generally endure the stories. Each requires its own, hopefully interlocking, logical and supportive motivational components. I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for the next part of this story, so the competitive aspect was my main driver.

EDIT: And let's be honest. You're competing whether you admit it or not. Otherwise the Williams/Fremont clan would have gotten some of the points from the most recent solves as you'd said you were going to play it last week and there'd be more speculation in this thread on the puzzles while they're being thought out by strifey and the gang. I believe I'm the only one who has speculated on the most current Lore puzzle here -Redacted-.

EDIT: Looked at the Lore 6 puzzle some more. I think it includes the '06 Cardinals too as the reference to the two ringleaders would be a reference to Tony LaRussa and Sparky Anderson and the 4 1/2 is likely a reference to the five game series, itself. The St. Louis Cardinals were formed in 1882 (100 years prior). What all that has to do with the Arizona Cardinals, I know not.

actually I do know about UF but since its 17 pages long and I hate getting bogged down with too many other things I try to keep it focused on the game forum. I didn't realize I was going to get Pm'd and talked about on the forum about something so silly as using UF. No offense to anyone but I didn't think it was a big deal.

Sorry if my referencing IG posts caused any inconvenience. I've removed the mention from my previous post.
