Back to the laissez-passer for a second; It looks like it means that CT can use this to travel anywhere in the UN's member countries, and can't be arrested, detained, searched, etc. See articles 6 and 7 of the Convention on the privileges and immunities of the united nations; http://www.un.int/usa/host_p-i.htm
I'm pretty sure that it was issued in New York (UN HQ), though Geneva and Vienna are the two other issuing offices. You can see the form that needs to be filled out to get one of these, here: http://www.un.org/depts/tts/docs/tts2-e.doc . Looks like it would need a fair amount of false information to pass muster.
Alternately; what if it's just a forged laissez-passer? Either way it means CT doesn't have to worry about getting around.
The real question is: Did CT leave the Cube in New York??

Interesting:
"UN Laissez-passer
This allows the holder to travel to the United Kingdom on official business without a national passport or entry clearance. However when holders travel to the UK for any other reason, they should use their national passports (and visas will be required by visa nationals)."
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1034348270424
but:
"12. I have a UN Laissez-Passer; is this valid for travel to the U.S.?
The passport is valid for travel to the U.S. only if the holder is destined to the U.N. and is in possession of a valid G-4 visa. The UN Laissez-Passer is an emergency travel document and should only be used in special circumstances. "

Could it possibly be another (and I am using that term loosely, in the sense that there has been previous spec on this in another thread) Around the World in Eighty Days allusion - laisser-passer (let me pass) - the character who accompanies Fogg is Passepartout (go anywhere) - similar meaning (and language)...
Just a passing thought.

Love to, except I'm not sure what you mean, exactly.

Any chance the numbers relate to the number strings that I have so fondly been working with?
In a risk analogy - could they by the numbers of armies played and lost? Or moved into a territory? That seems wrong though, because none of them have the number 1 ..
I'm sure these numbers correlate in some way with the number strings. I think the shapes may do as well ( I mean correalate with the shapes we have already.) I think the shapes are there to tell us that, yes, these numbers are related to what we already know. Maybe a clarification -not an addition per se.
Have fun with this.
(Note: remember that GuyP said we already had all the info we needed to find the Cube but that players should keep an eye on thelibraryofbabel site. )
Is it possible to divide the PPC map into 42 territories? I don't know, I don't want to keep just throwing ideas out there without any more time to work on them. OF course the simplest thing is to just pair them up with the number pairs in the same order we already have them and see where it might take us.
-----
What about the numbers relating to time? The time elapsed? I'm confused about that.

Although it's probably completely irrelevant, the first thing I thought of when I saw those three shapes was some of the Venetian carnival masks (especially the plague doctor ones).

Cities and Cymbals Taxi type Probably nothing new but...
I checked some taxi websites in Geneva and Vienna - they all seem to be Mercedes saloons, nothing like the 'yellow cars' assumed to be NY taxis mentioned by CT in Waking and Dissolution.
Also... something that keeps tickling me is all the book/library references.
And in Letters:
'but when no-one else is speaking, a pin drop is as loud as cymbals '
Which links to Isaac Cymbalisty, who was Head Librarian at the Academy Library.
Books - cymbals - libraries...

What did happen on November 23rd, 2003?
Also the hours and the minutes aren't exactly 1095 days....like he is trying to tell us the exact hour and minute of an event....

Like I said, 3 years minus 1 day plus 17 hours 26 minutes.
If we assume he updated the site right at midnight...and the clock on the flash starts moving from 12:00... then that would mean we are looking at November 24, 17:26 (5:26pm)
I have yet to find anything interesting for that day.

total solar eclipse visible only from antartica .For some reason my previous attempt to post this didn't work.
There was a total solar eclipse on November 23, 2003 visible only from Antartica.
From this article
Quote:
The eclipse started at 22:08 UTC, and the shadow passed from the surface of the earth a little over an hour later at 23:20 UTC. The sun's light was completely blocked at 22:49 for one minute and 55 seconds.
Some more links:
google map
this links to other links
I like this one as a guess, we have had astronomy related cards - and there is one with the Cube on it.
Also- could it relate to the three circles?
Does anyone have a transcript of the audio? I am thinking of ideas as I try to pack and clean so I'm not able to do one. I think it would be useful for people to be able to read it.
Thanks lovelies

CT says:
1095 days
26297 hours
1577846 minutes
based on the page's last edited time of 15:01 PM today, and using my maths:
1095 days ago was 11/23/2003
26297 hours ago was 11/22/2003 22:01
1577846 minutes ago was 11/22/2003 22:36
(EDIT: adjustment)

Another idea here's another one to consider . . . . .
For those of you who live outside of the US, New York city is one big grid of streets. Also, since we're talking about someone with enough knowledge to steal the cube successfully and he/she is from a puzzle-based society, I'm thinking that these coordinates may be the sreets in NYC. All of the streets have numbers in NYC. Here's my logic . . .
He saw these numbers as he was falling asleep
He saw them as he was traveling the streets of 'perplex city'
He was very tired
What if he was actually seeing the intersections that the cab was driving through and his puzzle-based mind was remembering all of the intersections.
This may give us a path the cab took within NYC
Like, starting from the beginning . . .
started at 7th street and 8th avenue or 7th ave and 8th street
then to 6th street and 6th ave or 6th ave and 6th street
then to 7th st and 8th ave or vice versa
then BACK (minus) to 6th and 6th again
food for thought . . . .
