Perhapas the most interesting of the photobucket images is a page from "The Book of Raziel", an ancient grimoir supposedly adapted from the "Book of Signs" which in turn is supposedly a magic manual written by Adam.

Also, the good doctor's favourite book list includes "Introductory Homicide: A Beginner's Guide" by Dallas Lawrence. Preliminary investigations indicate this book to be non-existant.

The Sefer Raziel (Book of Raziel) was said to be handed down from Adam to Enoch.

"Adam studied the book intently, and bequeathed it to his son Seth. So it went on, through successive generations... In this way the book was handed down from Seth to Enosh to Kenan to Jared, and in this way it reached Enoch."

The image of the page can be found at the Library of Congress.

Under the heading of Evoking Spiritual Powers, the book is described as a "Book of Incantations and Magical Formulae" and states:

Quote:
Often reprinted, this popular book of practical kabbalah includes incantations and magical formulae. The opening shows an amulet to protect women in childbirth and newborn infants from harmful spirits, in this case, the spirit of Lilith. According to legend, Lilith was Adam's first wife (before Eve), but left him when he refused to share power equally.

A Doctor, mentions of nazis and Lilith, invocations and candle ceremonies, and it feels like AV deja vu Rolling Eyes

Oh, HURRAH! We finally have the doctor! Smile good job.

The book of Raziel certainly looks interesting, what with biblical connections and Adam and therefore Cain, etc. Thought I'd throw in a wikipedia article on it just in case something jumps out at any of us.

Hey guys, been sitting in the background to see if this is yet another one that will crush all my hopes and dreams and just fizzle out. But, this looks like it's got a full head of steam and is most likely goin' somewhere. Just wanted to announce I'll be throwing my hat in the arena and helping where I can.

I wrote to the doctor, trying to get his attention. It seems I did, but he's very formal on his answer, so it seems it'll be tricky to get the page out of him:

Quote:
Greetings, Jose!

Le Proprietaire des Choses was one of many books that helped to shape our history. Books and manuscripts like these are usually referred to as incunabula. The term incunabula refers to books that were printed using metal type up to the year 1500. Actually, that year is more a cutoff date of convenience, marking the transition from one century to the next, rather than signifying a definitive change in the appearance of books from 1501 onwards. It was actually around 1530 that a transformation in the appearance of books is said to have begun to take place. I have a few incunabula of my own, and I am very proud to possess such wonderful works of literature.

The title translates to "The Properties of Things", and the original is currently being held in the library of congress.

Thank you for taking time to visit my blog site, and keep visiting!

Greetings Doctor Price.

You don't know me, but I found your blog while doing some research and
I'm facinated by your findings. I am myself a bookworm, and I love old
books. These days the books of knowledge just lack the beauty of
manuscripts and engravings.

Is like the age of light we live in now blind us to the beauty of
subtle things. There's nothing like dimmed lights to read ancient
tomes of lore.

Anyway, I'd love to see more of your collection, specially that 16th
century book you talk about on your latest post. I don't have too many
old books, and most of them are just the usual religious tomes. I do
have one I?m very proud of, a French copy of the Le Proprietaire des
Choses. I don't read french, but I have a transcript of the latin
text: De proprietatibus rerum, so while I haven't been able to read my
own book, I do know what does it say.

Well, I hope we can talk some more Doctor Price, you seem to be quite
an expert on this field and a very smart man. Here, this is a picture
I took of my pride and joy

I found you

here is mine:

Re: I found you

Sylvia,

There is no need for apologies here! I must say I am very flattered. I would love to share such a passion for fine literature with someone like you. My guests usually enjoy such music as well, I will put in some good rhythmic fish tank music, and it keeps the conversation going. I think one of my favorite albums is by a french guy named Dimitri from Paris. He compiles lounge and house style music together, and the two are perfect for cocktail parties.

As a matter of fact, I am having one tonight, so I will be out for awhile. I am expecting some lawyers and language professors tonight to go through some of my collection and see about learning more of their origins. I hope to talk to you again really soon, you seem like such a pleasant person.

Bye for now,

Dr R H Price

Please allow me to introduce myself, hello my name is Sylvia. I just simply can't believe it. I've been searching online for days looking for rare books then I happen upon your journal. Now don't get me wrong there is a lot of info out there about rare books but when I found your journal I found something more rare than books. I found you. You see, you fit the description of the man I've been searching for so frantically. I can't believe all the things we have in common. Not only do we both enjoy rare books but also the pleasures of early evening cocktail parties with groovy music filling the air. Then in the late evenings some mighty fine tobacco and a nice martini in front of a cozy fire place with some soothing music playing in the background. I simply can't think of a better way to spend a day other than to travel and learn new things and occasionally living a little dangerously. It just doesn't come any better than that. I hope you don't think I'm being to forward or to pushy but I simply couldn't pass up this opportunity to get to know you better and find out if you might be my true and perfect harmonious soul mate a once in a life time event.

Oh please tell me, I can call you Robert or Rob.

Sylvia

YAY ME!!!

Me to Dr.

Quote:
Dr. Price,

I have a copy of a rather old book that I have a few questions about. I don't know if you are familiar with it or not. I happened to stumble across your blog (sort of a hobby of mine), and thought you might be able to help concidering your enthusiasm for the written word.

The book is "Credo" by WIlliam Coffin. I (although do not have it in front of me at the moment) I believe is a 1873 ed. and in wonerful condition.

Anything you can tell me would be appreicated. If you would happen to need pictures, please let me know.

Thank you,
AngBa

His reply:
Quote:
AngBa,

How very interesting! William Sloane Coffin wrote a book called Credo, which I remember being full of wonderful quotations in which to live by.

From Credo: "Cogito ergo sum?" -- "I think therefore I am?" Nonsense, "Amo ergo sum", I love therefore I am. It is better not to live than not to love.

Unless you mean the one by Luther Tracy Townsend? I do recall a book called "Credo" written by Townsend in 1873. He was professor of exegetical theology in Boston university near that time and of historical theology, and also has occupied the chair of practical theology.

Perhaps if you were to send me some images, including anything that would assume it's date. If there was another Coffin who wrote another Credo, I am totally unaware of it, but that is why I started a site, to learn more about such books.

Thank you again for your interest, and I will ask my guests tonight if they have ever heard of such an edition.

Dr. R H Price

Ok, so tried a different approach. What is up with this?

I swear Jerry, your not going to get me back! You truly went out of your way this time, so I applaud you for it. I promise I won't even mention it tonight.

By the way, I think I'm going to open up the Screaming Eagle. The ladies will love that!

See you here

Dear Dr Robert Price,

You are one hard man to find and so sought after. I can't believe the stir that has been caused to seek you out. It has come to my attention by a dear friend, perhaps you know of him, Father Enoch, he says you have something in your possession that is necessary for the survival of many people. You may not even realize you have it, and may require assistance in locating it. Please, I am begging you, this is of great importance.
I would be honored to help you in anyway to discover what we seek, what is necessary for the survival of the world. Only you hold the key.
Please contact me as soon as possible, lives or on the line and time is running out.

Sincerely,

Teri

Yours Truly,

Here's what I sent to Dr. Price, along with some pics of the book...

Quote:
Dr. Price,

Thank you so much for your interest in my book. I must apologize, in my enthusiasm over finding your blog I got ahead of my self a bit!

Now that I am home and am looking at the book (and doing some research), you are correct - It was Luther Tracy Townsend that was the author of the book that I have. It took a while to find the author, as there is none listed in the copy I own.

It is entitled "The Supernatural Book" and has many interesting therories - I myself have poured over it several times!

I am attaching a few pictures, and apologize at my picture quality - but my edition is 1875. I have the cover, the title page and the table of contents. The subject matter is... subjective to say the least.

I would be very curious to know what you and your collegues think of such a book, I was lucky to stumble across it.

I would be interested to see more of what piques your interest as well - your blog amazes me! Please tell me if you would like any other information.

AngBa
