GaiaOnline Puzzle Trail!
Aliems.... : O

CROSS-POSTED FROM IU (because it's all dead...)

If anyone here plays GaiaOnline (gaiaonline.com), you might have seen the recent Halloween plotline which invoved UFOs coming to the game's planet, "Gaia". Two main groups immediatly formed; the GIB (Gaians in Black), who merely want to protect the public; and the Believers who support the aliens (a race known as Zurg).

On Halloween two beverages went on sale in game; Red Bino (put out by the game's main aristocrat, Gambino) and Zurg (put out by the aliens. Zurg transformed human characters into aliens and Red Bino turned them back into humans. After that initial game (it was an item release for the game; you had to zap so many aliens or probe so many humans depending on your side in the game) the plot didn't end as expected. The aliens landed on the main map and forums were opened to talk t each of them. A love affair between one of the aliens (number 09, also known as Flarn) and a Gaian user (Yuzi-K, a member of the Believers) caused a stir in the aliens, lead by the Mothership (who acts just like a mother to them). Number 09 became "ill" and was taken away. Before this he had expressed fear for the humans and explained that the Mothership was not as kind as she seemed. Later number 11 formed an army of users against the humans, called Zurg Nation (ZN). Number 11 later had a sudden and drastic change of heart. He expressed a desire to find his "love" and closed down ZN. He was considered sick as well and disappeared to the Mothership. The aliens later declared "piece" in a chat with several influential players but refered to several strange things (a "stargate" connecting the two planets, some big event).

Number 12, an aly to the Believers as well, was "grounded" and went on a "complicated mission". When he returned he was acting strangely (he's believed to be one of the youngest aliens and usually acted shy and silly) and posted some messages with strange things at the ends. One of these codes turned into "urmothership" when I put it through ROT-13 (I KNEW my ARG experience would come in handy for this!). This lead us to believe that the Mothership was somehow controlling or watching 11 and he had gotten around this by speaking in code. UFO number 04 also speaks in code (binary) but doesn't appear to have a side in the conflict.

Someone found this website (www.gaiaonline.com/zurg) and we tried several passwords. It turned out to be "urmothership" and lead to another page with various symbols that resemble wingdings/webdings, a triangle (partially broken), three puzzle pieces (possibly revealing that the aliens' saying "we come in piece" was not just a humorous mistake), and some entry fields. We're still trying to fgure it out, going through some of the stranger things the UFOs have said to us. Putting something random is leads to a page that says "291106 PROCESSING. . ." but never proceeds. We believe it may be a date but we're uncertain whether it's a due date for solving the puzzle or a starting date and we just found it to early.

*Deep breath* OKAY, BACKSTORY COMPLETE! The reason I'm bringing this here is because the trail is getting QUITE interesting, especially for a game like GaiaOnline that has a massive amount of players and anyone can influence the story by interacting... it's ALMOST ARGish, only it lacks the TINAG mindset.

So... try it out? I'm "Technomaly" on the site. I'm part of the Believers. Right now people are trying to figure out the website... feel free to jump right in if you already have an acount. It's getting really exciting! Very Happy
