October 20th - Metro Ad GuyP got an e-mail saying that there was going to be someting Perplex City related in the paper today, while sleeping on my keyboard at work Ollie told me to get off my arse and look at the Metro paper. Luckily there was one sitting on my desk (very unusual) and I proceeded to look through the paper three times with no luck. I gave up....
On the bus home I came across this:

I am not sure if this is a transcription error or what (I copied/pasted directly out of the message into my substitution cipher tool, but there could have easily been typos going from the paper to the email message or the message source to the paper), but this is what I get:

Yeah, that's exactly what I got too. (Doing it the more honest way with paper and pen )
There is, however, some strange capitalisation that you won't have picked up on because of your output mode.

So that means that there are 3 errors in the passage:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
#1 - The 'I' in "South SIde" is wrongly capitalised.
#2 - The 'H' of "Wear Homething purple" is capitalised (and wrong).
#3 - The 4th to last letter of the URL is wrong ('n' in "weneedtofindthen")

It may just be me, but I think it's pretty odd that they would take the time to take out an ad and go through ciphering it (although I guess they could have used a program or something), only to misdirect those who read it to a non-existant site. I mean, let's say Joe Blo on the street picks it up, solves it for fun and gets interested. He checkes out the site for more information and ends up quitting because it doesn't work. It just seems... unprofessional to me.

Unless it was wrongly transcribed by Reason... The guy who contacted me had read the advert, deciphered it, gone to weneedtofindthem.com, and then clicked through to my site - so I'm guessing that the original ad is correct. My stats certainly suggest it!

Ah, well. That's of course a more likely scenario. I just figured something didn't quite add up.

well i can't be sure as the Manchester edition of today's Metro doesn't seem to have anything in it (which would make sense as it obviously has different jobs in it (i assume this was in the jobs section?) and also that native Londoners are more likely to wander on down to Clapham than Mancunians are)
...but I guess the 'Homething' error would've actually been a lower case L in the paper (l) rather than an upper case I, but hard to tell apart in most fonts... dunno bout the others but D and E are quite close on the keyboard for a random typo. figuring that out on paper was fun, interesting letter distribution as well, almost ROtable in places, I guess to give people a few hints. just a shame I can't make it now :( and still no hints to the mysterious (and probably soon to be deceased) figure!

actually, www.weneedtofindthen .com is a redirector to www.weneedtofindthem .com Both will work.
reminiscent of www.perl plexcity.com
Hey look at me! I got my picture in the paper!

reminds me of what happened with the newpaper adverts used for Art Of the Heist - the newspaper screwed it up - They like english words but the spell check doesnt work for scrambled code - i would say its typos from the typesetters

To be fair (right back at you), it didn't redirect at first, it was a 404.. they must be reading the forum and changing things (and buying new domains) on the fly.
Edit: and just a point, your "weneedtofindthen " link points at "weneedtofindthem .com", so clicking it doesn't go through a redirect. (I know, I have redirects disabled).

FYI, I copied the puzzle from here and forwarded it to my mom for her to have some fun with it, and she got
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"wear something purple."
I was shocked she got it without the typo until I realized that the font in my email doesn't distinguish between upper case I and lower case l. Perhaps this is where the problem started. Either from reading it and copying it down incorrectly, or at the copy desk at the Metro.
EDIT: Sorry! I see Spug already had the same idea!

..Are you serious?
This thread is over a year old. Just **read the thread**, literally 10 posts up, to see what it said. It's not hard.
Edit: Deleted sneaky spam post above this, to which you were responding. -SpaceBass
