A few questions...
Hopefully not to 'newbish'

Hey guys, I have lurked here as a guest on / off for a while and really like the close knit community you have going. I was playing Art of the Heist for months by myself before I even realised there was a community lol!! Laughing

OK, just a few quick questions about puppetmastery techniques,

1. Has something sold on Ebay ever been a rabbithole?

2. Have you ever heard of a more simplistic ARG for young teens / children?

3. How big is the UK community / player group in your estimation?

I have some new and (I hope ) original ideas for a small-ish but tightly written arg that I am working on. It wont be finished till at least next July (pesky Iraq deployment getting in the way!! lol) which I am producing independently. However I could really use some advice on avoiding the other 'implodes' I have heard about.

Plus..are there any digital artists out there who might be interested in helping me produce some artwork.

If I have broken any forum rules or ettiquette here fellas please let me know.

Orbital Colony was sort of launched through eBay - I think it was more of a pre-launch, though? You can read the thread here.

As to the question of a simplistic ARG for teens or children, I'm not following it, but maybe Cathy's Book fits some of that? While not "simplistic", I think I know what you were getting at; it is, per my limited understanding, target at the teen audience.

Hey Cooler_King

Welcome Smile

1. Has something sold on Ebay ever been a rabbithole?
Things have sold on Ebay and things on Ebay have been rabbitholes, but I can't think of any instance where the two have met (the selling and rabbithole-ing)

2. Have you ever heard of a more simplistic ARG for young teens / children?
There are a few examples. Cathy's book, which mapmaker mentioned. Also Jamie Kane by the BBC. There was also a game for, I think, for school aged kids put out by a museum that was local. I've also heard tales of a few teachers doing things for their students.

3. How big is the UK community / player group in your estimation?
Thanks to Perplex City, the UK community is fairly large. And, one nice thing about it, is that it's more "dense" than the US - while the numbers probably don't rival the numbers of US players, they're in a smaller space so it feels like more. But actual numbers and such - I've no idea.

Thanks, I appreciate the tip. I will look into both of those.

Well, Varin saw the ebay ad for the Asteroid. She was the one that placed the innovative bid that exposed our meta site to uF. Kudos to her quick thinking on the spur of the moment. Ebay yanked the offering shortly thereafter so the window of opportunity to be a "Bidder" was very small.

Chasing the Wish (2004) had several objects that were puzzles up for sale on ebay. I don't think anyone has launched as an ebay "seller." (Or we haven't noticed the items that were trailheads...)

They aren't really ARGs because there's not a lot of communicating with in-game characters, but the website Neopets has run a few games involving ciphers, source code, etc, all with a story that unfolded with them. (I think there's a lack of ARGs for younger players because they're less likely to want to/be allowed to communicate with people they don't know over the internet.)
