For reference purposes here is a list of all the Risk territories, I wasn't sure which thread this fits in best with at this point. (this list is from wikipedia)

* Northwest Territory
* Ontario¹
* Quebec¹
* Western United States

¹On some versions sold in Canada, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec are known as Western Canada, Central Canada and Eastern Canada respectively.

South America

* Argentina
* Brazil
* Peru
* Venezuela

Europe

* Great Britain
* Iceland
* Northern Europe
* Scandinavia
* Southern Europe
* Ukraine
* Western Europe

Africa

* Congo
* East Africa

* Japan
* Kamchatka
* Middle East

I'm going to check this against the board I have.

This seems like a good place to have the thread, so just for completeness here are the links to the previous threads:

Strange numbers and images thread. This covers lots of ground from the beginning of wave 4 when we first realized that there were odd numbers etc., and is well worth a read for the thinking into the Risk idea.

Code from CT. This covers the solving of the code from CT, and a little Risk spec.

If we work on the basis in this thread that they are Risk numbers (I know not everyone agrees with this, but this thread could be a Risky place). Summing up from elsewhere & trying to take it forward it looks as if the order that we have been given is the order that the territories were picked - player 1 went first and picked a territory, followed by player 2 etc.

I have updated the spreadsheet with the order given to us by CT and attached it (it also has a couple of my guesses on it!) - if anyone would like to check it that would be great. The one thing that I found slightly puzzling was the two 156 numbers. If I have understood what everyone has been saying about how the order should have been reached, initially would be the first 1 (029a), then the first 2 (058a) etc all the way through (numbering as per spreasheet). This holds true all the way through except the two numbers on card 156 (Going Dotty) which appear out of order.

Right - a question to those of you who have played lots of Risk (I haven't) which territories would you be after first?

The first one picked going by the final layout suggested previously is in Europe, and the second in Asia - I would have thought that someone would go after an Australia first!

Here's something moderately interesting on the Risk numbers. I was comparing the frequency of the length of the number strings with the frequency of length of the Risk territory names:

Code:

The tail ends (last five points on each graph) are what jumped out as being very similar. Obviously the number strings couldn't be a direct substitution code, but maybe something along those lines (i.e. the number strings are directions on how to move around a grid of the alphabet to spell out the territory names).

A few of the cards have pictures/symbols of Risk playing pieces (little soldiers and cavalry).
