Hallow's End Happy Halloween ;) This popped into my inbox a few moments ago. I suspect that some of y'all might be interested.

Hello.
Probably never heard of me, me being from a little island near to the UK, but i be a man called Jack Holl.
The Council in our little town of Hallow's End has asked me to make a blog of sorts and get people interested in visiting Hallow's End.
My niece found a few email addresses and gave them to me, so don't think of this as spam.
Anyway, the blog's at " http://welcometohallowsend.blogspot.com "
Happy Halloween

not a lot there, just 2 blog entries... looks like more interaction to further whatever there may be, if not waiting for an update.
Notable: - favourite number is 666 (his link there returns a 404)
- linked to the Friday the 13th series on wikipedia
- Email is readily available
- 'True' history of Hallow's End (on 'the 13th island', or Island 13)described, though it seems like Jack's hinting that it's at the very least, slightly fabricated like something's being hidden by the "Council"
sounds interesting...

Just got this email too. Was wondering whether I should submit. Looks like the answer was yes!
I also sent a simple email back, mostly because (until I came here) I wasn't sure if this was an attempted ARG or not:
Quote:
Hello, Jack!
I've visited your blog. Hallow's End sounds like quite an interesting place! Will you be able to post any photos in the near future?
Also, if you don't mind my asking... How did your niece come by my email address? Is she someone I might know?
Looking forward to learning more about your little town.
This looks like it could be ... can't think of the word.... lighthearted, I guess. Which I think is great.
ETA: And I received a response:
Quote:
Hey Chris!
I'm not sure about the photos - One of the council's stern rules is no photos at all, pain of dressing up as a female for Halloween.
Yes, i don't understand it either.
And, i understand that my niece found your email address from a linkdump. Whatever that is.
Anymore questions, feel free to ask.
Happy Hallo-weeeeeen
Jack Holl
Hm.

A new post, a link to Psycho on Wikipedia, and a mention of Happy Time Employment from the TV show Dead Like Me . And a mention of my name, and "catherwork" who I'm assuming is catherwood .
ETA: And another new post. Apparently we get a running commentary
There is also a number hidden in the source that I hadn't noticed (return character added by me):

Looks to be octal -> ascii... is there a fast way to convert?

Well, the numbers range from 0-7, which hints at base 8 numerics (OCTal, yeah)

Ok, found a faster way than one letter at a time:
Quote:
Scratch the surface, Find a secret.
The secret of Island Thirteen.
Also, the "666" page address has changed... but still doesn't work.

looks like it's trying to point to a hidden blog entry... the year says 2005, but I'm guessing it should be 2006. But it still returns a 404. Tried changing it to just '666' and to '666-scratch-the-surface', still no luck.
Seems like a typo. But if he's intending that url, then it could just be a part of the puzzle.

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but in addition to Lovek's comment on Jack's latest entry, there is also one from someone that apparently knows Jack:

Good work Jack. Although I disagree a bit with your "History". I will see you tomorrow morning.
You can get to RectorM's profile and then to his blog which is just a template at the moment.

Yeah, I've been trying things too. But, as I've made clear by example in other ARGs, my puzzle-solving ability is... bad.
Maybe I'll just ask him

I think we are looking for his AIM address. That my two cents.

Blog Update RectorM updated his blog
http://rectorm.blogspot.com/
I'm guessing this character is going to be much less cryptic, and more there to give us hints on what Jack Holl is being "censored" on; He's going to "keep Jack in line".
EDIT: Maybe not. . .

Re: Blog Update Jack added me on GTalk last night, but I don't know that I've figure out his AIM yet. (He wasn't online).
Now I'm at work and don't have access to any IM.
