I don't buy this "the cube must be in the UK as that's where MC/the original target audience is" malarkey. Travelling round the world is pretty easy these days, and it's not like the Internet hasn't been around for a little while now... AFAICS, it's just as likely to be in New Zealand as it is in Balham.

Anyway, digressions. Any more ideas on how the number strings can be arranged? Smile

Interview

Quote:
One of the elements of the ARG is that the players can influence the outcome, making their quest far more engaging. Smith said there are still a lot of cards and clues to be revealed, so the UK gamers don't necessarily have an edge in finding the Cube. Smith estimates that someone will win the $200,000 this year. Some American gamers have been playing the game already by purchasing cards over eBay. In the U.K., Mind Candy Games has sold about 160,000 packs of cards and it has 14,000 people signed up on the leader board.

Smith says that once the $200,000 is won, the game won't be over. This is just the first of the puzzles.

This was taken from an interview with Michael Smith in February last year, it would indicate to me then that season 2 is ready to go and maybe that's why we're getting lots of clues to wrap up season 1?

What are we missing?

ROTting in Hell lol

Not that it helps, but I just tried to ROT from +1 to +25 the phrase;

FRBPULAFHPOSMLUCNIDYMENDBKIELGTPDOAAKILTIO

from the partially solved string with no success, maths is not my strong point though lol.

Wink

Just as an aside, I have just re read the library of babel text on this, and it strikes me that the text could relate to an aeroplane or the orbit of a star or planet (as well as the cube itself).

a journey, it transpires.
the whole thing has been about a journey
And the thing itself,
a maker of journeys,
a joiner of points.
Travel, solidified.
Motion, held fast.

An aeroplane makes journeys, joins points (as in gets you from A to B), travel solidified i.e you travel in a solidified object and motion held fast - it seems like you're not moving when in fact you are. Maybe I'm miles away from this but it made sense to me anyway ! Smile

So, what we're looking for is

(Heh, had to. Kept on thinking of Yeesha's opening speech in Uru when reading these lately.)

Actually, since it was mentioned that the "journey's more important than the destination", I wonder if it has something to do more with the paths. Going to try playing around with the paths some.

I found this article on the net;

A Journey More Important Than Its Destination:. Einstein's Quest for General Relativity, 1907–1920 by Michel Janssen.

Maybe it could refer to the pilgrimage to Mecca ???

I'm lost on this, maybe the cube is sitting on Satoshi's TV lol

but this bares no connection to our main clue:

Five fingers point:
half the world
realm
region
feature
last mystery.

This got me thinking about possible connections:

What if the feature is the NY public library and the last mystery is another puzzle? The artpad seems to suggest that we're looking for a specific artist (maybe a sketchbook or photo journal type thing). There was some discussion about butterflies a little while back. There are a lot of collections of butterfly pictures in the Digital collection and I'm sure even more exist in the library itself. Pull shelf could be a part of the last mystery, maybe we have to move the shelf to find another puzzle. When the puzzle is solved, it could lead us right to the cube. CT has mentioned an "arboreal" area. This could be a correlation to wooden shelves in a library (wood = trees = arbor = "wooded" area). Maybe this hypothetical puzzle will lead us to another, more literal, arboreal location near the library? The FIND MC thing is pretty obvious: terms and conditions of winning the prize requires you to hand deliver the Cube to MC offices.

Just think out loud here. Plus, not really busy at work and this whole CT thing has been bugging me for a while.

Just for clarification, is the above someone's interpretation of the partial solve or what we are actually trying to figure out ??

I know... out there (what again? another idea thats OUT THERE? NOOOO!!!)

we have this long string and it is as follows:
FRBPULAFHPOSMLUCNIDYMENDBKIELGTPDOAAKILTIO

is there anything that we could add to these letters (another 42 letter long message) that could bring a result as the following example?

initial message: GENE
second message: FOOL
G E N E
7 5 14 5 +
F O O L
6 15 15 12
=
13 20 29 17
=
M T C Q

any takers?

I'm liking the NY Public Library route, personally. The mention of an 'arboreal' area, to me, actually does seem to make a place filled with books much more likely. "Dispersal pattern suggests target located in arboreal area." doesn't necessarily mean that it's literally surrounded by trees; in layout, a library can resemble a dense forest for the dispersal of a signal, and in construction, libraries tend to have either wooden or metal shelves, not to mention there's a heck of a lot of paper involved.

Good luck, folks, I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Dig in a Library?

I agree that the NY ideas sounds good in theory but how can you dig in or around a library, in fact where can you dig anywhere in New York? Is central park a public place where you can dig?

I've been to New York (Manhattan) and trust me if you wanted to dig in most of it you'd need a pnematic drill as it's all concrete. Unless it's in a New York park that allows digging I don't see how it can be, plus the fact that CT told us he got on a plane from somewhere that resembles New York from his account, unless he went round in a big circle ???

I just think that, from the point of view of the game, it would be unfair to bury the cube so far away from the UK where the game originates, that narrows down who can actually go out and look for it, of course I am just speculating, we know CT had a shovel but it doesn't say he actually used it and we don't know what was in the envelope.

Hopefully if there is another clue from the Babel site soon it all might make more sense and we might find out what the envelope and shovel were for(if anything)!

I have some of my family in NYC checking out the library tomorrow. Guess we'll see how it looks...

Not fair?
TIAG: They released cards to the UK, USA and Canada simultaneously, did they not? In light of the massive prize available, I've already got my trip funds squared away, and my documents in order. I don't care if I have to go to Antarctica, it'll still be worth both the adventure, the time, and the small amount of money needed to lay claim to the LARGE amount of money.
TINAG: What you need to be asking yourself is, where would CT have thought was the safest place on Earth to hide something given her limited knowledge of our planet...that's where she flew to. It wasn't a choice of convenience.

*goes back to spreadsheets*

So Far

Five fingers point:
half the world
realm
region
feature
last mystery.

This looks like a narrowing description.....
Hemisphere
Country
Economic, natural or political area.
Prominent point
?

FRBPULAFHPOSMLUCNIDYMENDBKIELGTPDOAAKILTIO

This letter sequence is missing J,Q,V,W,X and Z (Least common letters by usage), so it is most probably not a code but a word jumble.

I think the "Last Mystery" would not be a word or phraze found in the list of letters, so we would be looking for only four words or phrases to make from the jumble.

I think the "Last Mystery" will be pointed to by the four previous.
