Isn't this just a poor rip off of the main perplexcity website?

jaikaiman i going to say some thing nice about the site (more or less)

it a good idea if you offer some thing that you can't find on other site's i.e. PerplexCity.com or here.

sad to say you don't as have any thing yet. just a have a shop with not that must stock (and a Google ads box and a Donate box witch do you make money {pick now} )

sit down and think what your trying to do. there must be better online tools us PXC players need or wait. you think up this and you go far if not you just athor site going look at me for no reason.

PerplexMe answers criticism.
Answering the critics

Well, i'd like to say thanks for the words of encouragement...LOL

Firstly, how can PerplexMe be a rip off of Perplex City? Its a fan site!

Secondly, whats wrong with trying to fund the project by having a store?

Thirdly, PerplexMe are a NEW web site, and therefore still growing, and still incorporating new features. The fact that we have spent much time and effort collating information from lots of other sites into one place is surely a good thing.

Did you REGISTER...a lot of the features of the site are for registered users only.

The store is an outlet for not only individual cards, which have been selling like hotcakes incidently, but also for booster packs, and coming soon accessories and posters etc. These things take time to arrange, and we want to be sure that all the behind the scenes facilitys to support this are in place before going live.

Donations are asked for by many sites, including this one. Feel free to donate, but remember, no one is forcing anyone to do anything. It takes a lot of time, effort, and money to setup and run the site, all help is greatly appreciated.

The news is updated as often as possible, the information is static, the forums are growing...in fact, we have recently posted a solves section giving the solves to all red through purple cards. This has been done to save people from having to trawl through all the forums for answers, for all those that are either at the end of their tethers, or, just want the points...does anywhere else have this feature. There is a also new downloads section with things like the 13th labour client on it.

Stick around, you may just come to love it...as a lot of our visitors do.

The site is up, the site is running, and the site is here for the FUTURE, especially when for when season 2 is released...(soon please).

Enjoy the site, and please feel free to leave more feedback. From tiny Acorns grow mighty Oaks.

Cheers
Jaikaiman

Hi Caz, thanks for your comments...wasn't trying to attack anyone. Just defending my site. Is that so wrong?

I was mainly replying to the first two extremely negative and frankly offensive messages. PerplexMe is a fan site made for the fans by a fan.
Just want to be helpful.

My point about registering is that people will miss out on a lot of functions of the site if they don't register.

I have removed the donation module as I don't really need it. Your point about donations on this site is a little out, as this site also gets sponsored...see Boraz at the mo.

I also have been creating web sites for a very long time, some of my other sites have been SithCentral (Jedi Knight game fan site), and EdenCentral (Black & White game fan site) amongst others.

Hope your stores does well for you Caz, all the best.

Weekly Sponsorship

jaikaiman wrote:

Just to clear up a bit of confusion - the weekly sponsors are actually people that have donated $100.

the Unfiction Needs Your Help! thread wrote:
In order to fully recognize the people who are helping to keep uF around for everyone to enjoy, we've added a page listing all of the donors who have contributed to Unfiction over the years, and will keep adding to it as donations roll in. uF benefactors will receive recognition in the Announcement Box as Weekly Sponsors for each multiple of $100 donated.

The image of Borat just happens to be the Ehsan's avatar. It's not being sponsored by Borat or the film.

Think of it like a number of places that accept donations. All donations are welcome and if you donate a small amount you get listed a little thank you and if you donate a bit more you get a little bigger thank you. In this case, any and all who donate get listed on the contributors page and those who donate a hundred dollars also get recognized as a weekly sponsor.

And the content from the websites...

A fan site is traditionally content that's brand spanking new rather than just cut and paste...

Mammon drives people to new depths.

Hi jaikaiman,

First, welcome to Unforums! Smile I'm always happy to see new faces around here. I invite you to stick around and participate in the various threads, so we can get to know you better.

I very much appreciate that you've taken the time to build a fan site. I think fan sites are a GOOD thing, and I'd love to see even more exist! However, I'd like to offer you some suggestions and gentle criticism so that you can work on making a truly excellent site.

These all sound like great features! I personally would not use a solves section myself, as I prefer to work through the cards on my own, but I could see this being handy and useful for others. I haven't looked at your solves section yet--may I ask if the answers are "spoilered" or not? I, personally, don't like to be spoilered for things (this includes card solves as well as plot points) so I would prefer the use of spoiler text in the solves section. I also like hints very much--see the Silver summaries for slower starters thread, which does an excellent job of giving starter hints without outright giving the solve. Building something like that for each card would be very useful, I think.

The downloads section is also a great idea. Are you hosting the downloads themselves, or merely providing links to the sites where the downloads are obtained? If you are hosting the downloads themselves, I would suggest sending a polite email to the application developers to ask if they mind you hosting their apps. I doubt many would have a problem, but I know if I had designed an app, I'd appreciate being informed that it's being hosted elsewhere, if only so I know how popular it's becoming. Very Happy

I'm a bit concerned that you've copied so much material from other sites, especially PerplexCity.com. While I'm not a professional writer by any means, I hope to become one someday, so I've read up on writer's rights and copyright law. I worry that you may get in trouble because you are using large sections of text from other sites. Please read the PerplexCity.com Terms and Conditions; it explicitly states that you are not to use site information for commercial purposes. Here's one pertinent excerpt:

PerplexCity.com Terms and Conditions wrote:

Intellectual Property Rights, Copyright and Trade Marks

  • You MAY download and use perplexcity.com for your private, non-commercial, personal use only, provided that you retain all copyright notices and other proprietary notices contained on perplexcity.com. You may not sub-license or deal in this right without the Perplex City Authorities' prior written permission.
  • All copyright, design rights, database right, patents, and any rights to inventions, know-how, trade and business names, trade secrets and trade marks (whether registered or unregistered) and any applications thereof ('Intellectual Property Rights') in perplexcity.com belong to and vest in the Perplex City Authorities, or are licensed to the Perplex City Authorities unless otherwise specified. All such rights of the Perplex City Authorities are hereby asserted and reserved.
  • No person other than the rightful owner or licensee of such Intellectual Property Rights may:

    • distribute, modify, transmit, re-use, re-post, or use any or all of perplexcity.com or the information contained therein for any purpose other than as set out above nor for public or commercial purposes without the Perplex City Authorities' or the relevant licensee's prior written permission;
    • provide hypertext links, URL Links, graphic links, hyperlinks or other direct connection for profit or gain to perplexcity.com without the Perplex City Authorities' prior written permission;
    • display, publish, copy, print, post or otherwise use perplexcity.com and the information contained therein for the benefit of any other website without the Perplex City Authorities' or the relevant licensee's prior written permission;
    • process or otherwise use the information contained on or within perplexcity.com for any illegal or immoral purpose nor use or process the same unfairly.

If your site was strictly a fansite, I'd be less worried. But you have a store on your site, which means your site is commercial, and thus you are breaking the PXC.com terms & conditions by using their text on your site. Yes, I know it's "just a fan site", but trust me, lawyers WILL see this as a commercial site infringing on their copyright. I strongly, strongly, STRONGLY suggest you rewrite the content of the "Perplex City" section of your site in your own words, so you can protect yourself and aren't breaking the PXC.com terms and conditions.

Finally, an aesthetic issue--I don't find red text on a black background very easy to read at all, and especially not on my current monitor. I suggest changing the colors to have better contrast. A light text on a dark background, or vice versa, works well.

Good luck with your site!

A reply to the gentle criticisms.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your encouraging words.

Firstly, I didn't realise that they pics above were the avatars of people that had donated, and not ads...much kudos to them for doing it. I take it back.

Secondly, some interesting thoughts there Xnera. Thanks for the warm welcome, and I plan to be around for a long time to come. I have taken on board what you said about copyright materials etc, and have changed the relevant bits considerably, and in my own words. The characters section is a bit difficult to do, so I have left it alone.

The solves section is exactly what is says on the tin. There are warnings before you enter, to do so at your own risk. There are no spoilers at all, just the answers. I figured that if people don't want to know, why would they look? People say its the taking part that counts...I havn't at all revealved how the answers were derived, so people can still work towards the solve if they wish, and eventually find how it was done.

The downloads are linked directly to the sites that host them. I will shortly be putting up links to these sites next to the downloads themselves so that people can visit the sites also. I have also been in the process of attaining permissions (maybe I should have done that first...I got a bit ahead of myself there).

The information that was posted on the site was for the benefit of all those people out there that might be new to the game, and needing that information. It is meerly information sharing. The new content is there to keep people up to date with forum posts, new programs, new solves etc, I personally don't see what the problem is, however, I will attain permission also from the relevent people for any directly copied items.
Its not a case of not wanting to put it in my own words, its a case of their words are everything that needs to be said, and in the way THEY wanted to say them.

I will have a play around with the colours of the red text, I wasnt really happy withit myself, so thanks for confirming my own doubts.

Yes, the logo is a rip off of the PerplexCity one, cos i thought it was great. I also wanted to give people that visited a little bit of familiarity, once again, I think that if there was a problem with it, the PXC employee that checked out my site would have had something to say about it. I'm not overse to creating another logo...ideas on a forum thread please!

Finally, I expect you can find some of the cards cheaper on Ebay. But do you necessarily want to spend ages searching for a card, spend time bidding on it, then lose it at the last minute as in some cases. I myself spent 3 weeks waiting for a card to arrive, and was dissappointed when it never did! This is because the person selling it had already swapped it and not removed the add. My site sells only what i have in stock. If it isnt there, its not for sale, simple as that. Like I said, I have sold a good number of these cards so far, not really for profit...do the maths. 6 cards on my site = £1.50, considering that a brand new booster pack costs £2.99, Im not really making anything other than trying to recoup some of the cost of what I've already spent out. Even the Black and Silvers (not many left now) are posted up as less than what I could make if I sold them on Ebay.

Cheers once again for the feedback, it is important, and it is taken on board.

Jaikaiman

not wanting to sound unappreciative, and I do appreciate the linkage too it would have been nice to have been asked to link to the 13th site especially as theres a news section, progress section and the LJ and puzzles (all be it I have been busy in RL and need to do a mega update). This is all news to me.

Permission Request
Permission Request for 13th Labour Linkage

Hi there Guin.

I had already checked with Chimera245 if it would be okay to link to the files.
However, I would just like to ask if its okay with you to link to your site on the banners etc, and in my links section.

P.s. If you want people to ask you to link to the site, you might well want to put that on your media page where you quite openly invite everyone to link to you!

Thanks for the message

Hi jaikaiman. Welcome to unfiction. I think it is great that PPC is generating more fan sites. I know Mind Candy is very open to discussions with players so you may want to email them to talk about your fan site. I look forward to seeing your original content as well. I think it will be good for you to get to know unfiction and the players here. We operate as a community here. We may tend to do things in a different way than other forums you may know from your projects dealing with other games.

Good luck with your site.
