The two pictures on alex' blog are

http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(455).jpg and http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(457).jpg
the missing number in the sequence is 456, so go to
http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(456).jpg
Which leads to
http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(048).jpg

The message for Miriam is encoded.

Code:

Hmm, I can't get the links to work, so just copy/paste them =P

[edit - welcome bezu; no need to spoiler stuff posted on a blog, we like to save the use of spoiler tag for puzzle solves - kona]

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Decoded the message with some guesswork, pass was "wowjimn"

"mim - this is alex. safe here. need all the info you have on r&d cluster. remember the back door we used to use to piss of randall? i need it back up. miss you. alex"

That was a puzzle solve I hope =P

 ugrietz blog code???

New post on Miriam's Blog as well!

Ulli and Tobin updated yesterday.

I think there's a code on the latest post on http://ugrietz.blogspot.com/. Is it just me, or do the numbers of the pics (14, 12, 9, 5, 2) mean anything? Possibly:

14-2=12
12-3=9
9-4=5
5-3(?)=2

The last one doesn't make sense. It should be 0. The first pic is not included because it has no number. Is this completly off base, or what?

BTW, just joined, and first ARG. Hoping to have some fun with this!

I think it is merely a selection of pictures found on http://www.ayf.uni-freiburg.de/pages/yearbooks/02-03/freiburg.html

Well, sure it is a selection, but "merely" a random selection? There may (or may not) be a reason why *those* particular pictures were chosen, or even why those pictures are given in *that* particular order. Or not.

If you use the standard A=1, B=2, Z=26 substitution, you get NLIEB. Looks like nonsense, except for the "lie" in the middle.

Don't know how many
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
raids there were on the temple,

but there were
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ten plagues.

, unless you really read, in which case there's a whole thing about each plague being one hand, or something, and it says that there were like 900, but I'm pretty sure the answer they want is 10.

EDIT: I am an idiot.

according to the bible there were
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
7 raids on Solomon's Temple

and there were
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
10 plagues

which would make the answer
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4

I think the number of raids and plagues depends on where you look
anyways you end up with

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
8-3=5
11-5=6
and a 6

from there to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(566).txt

and plenty of puzzles for the holiday
(URL in spoiler contains puzzle answers)

I guessed that the last part was supposed to say "Miss you. Alex"

Are we going attempt to bring down the security tonight? [in 15 minutes?] Or in two days, on the 26th?

Listed in the http://www.i2n.org/stuff/Image(566).txt is the link to a personal directory for Ed.

Mentioned in the Alex's note to us is the need for Ed's password, which is conveniently listed in a text file

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
vawhawbr

Someone has already left that as the comment on Alex's blog.

Next we need the names for the five nodes, which Ed, luckily, left for us in poem form.

Quote:
Holly, in case you forget the grinders' IDs again;

And now we are all sons of bitches
One amongst us cried
For we had turned the sands white, or at least we watched
Five of us saw, or five report it now, at least
But only god, and time, would judge us.

Before we came, this place was quiet
And now we are the destroyer
For we have turned the sand to glass
One amongst us watched with eyes unshielded, he said,
Forever changed.

One amongst us saw a rainbow, colours
Beggaring description, he said.
And now we are the lightshow.
Forever the victor,
For we have changed the rules.

Few would know such a light
Few would want it
One amongst us saw god within it,
But only said, "It worked".
At least, that's what his brother said.

For man to break the world,
For man to reach within and withdraw thunder
One order was needed, one beat
And one man to count it, the fifth of us
Breaking, broken, counting, printing our shadows onto time.

With love, always,
Ed.

Now onward! Solve those poems!

[edit - changed spoiler tag to quote tag since this isn't a solve but the actual poem - kona]

Solved Very Happy!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The poem is about the first test of a nuclear weapon at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, the Trinity Test. The sand turned into glass, and I guess you could say the world was forever changed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_test

The five men mentioned are:

Kenneth Bainbridge - said "Now we are all sons of bitches." after the test
Richard Feynman - the only one who didn't wear protective glasses
Gen. Farrell - said "The lighting effects beggared description"
J. Robert Oppenheim - said "It worked" according to his brother Frank
Samuel K. Allison - the man who did the countdown

So I guess the IDs we need are bainbridge, feynman, farrell, oppenheim and allison

Vraal also noticed that the first letter of every line in every stanza is a combination of A, B, F, F and O. The first letter of the mens' surname!
